  1. Wow, you guys are crazy! But I accept this nomination and promise to serve the people of this great forum with natural wisdom, supported by my incredible good looks. My first order of business is - From now on the official language of Organissimo will be Swedish. All the members, except for the Masters of the Groove will have to change their underwear every 30 minutes. Masters of the Groove will have specially trained nurses assigned for that. More to come.
  2. Sun Ra / The Night Of The Purple Moon
  3. Damn straight. It deserves the "State of the Tenor" treatment or what? Someone[bN] should record their next tenure for a multi-cd set. Plus the bonus dvd.
  4. Bolcom, William & Albright, William / New Music For Organ just kidding Green, Grant / Street Of Dreams Holmes, Richard "Groove" & Ammons, Gene / Groovin' With Jug Quebec, Ike / It Might As Well Be Spring Roach, Freddie / Brown Sugar Smith, Jimmy / Six Views Of The Blues
  5. Will be in Beentown next weekend, was wondering if the locals know of any good gigs on Fri & Sat nights?
  6. This has prompted me to revisit my [small] Criss collection. The more I listen to Sonny's Dream, the less it reminds me of his other records. It's an outstanding cd, albeit a short one. With the 2 alternates it comes up to 45 minuts. As far as the alternates themselves, the main reason to hear the alt. of Sonny's Dream is for McKibbon's bass, which has way more "meat" on it than the LP take. Wish the whole cd had more low end on it. But that's how most of these early 90s OJC's sound.
  7. My best wishes and hope of complete recovery for your mother, Berigan! We're all anxious for her to recover. Tell her that.
  8. I think the US set has one more cd in it.
  9. there's your guy
  10. And here I am, working on getting the pre-Liberty Mono.
  11. That certainly looks like a bit of good news. I'm susrprised noone here has commented yet. UMG owns Motown and Verve/Impulse![among many other, much bigger things] . I like the sound of $13 and under very much better than $16-$18. Imagine $10-priced brand new cds any day of the week.
  12. Your Jazz Scene suggestion is duly noted. However, I am interested in Pictorial History because looks like it concentrates on the pre-bop jazz scene in photos and other relevant documents. If that is the case I will buy it.
  13. See it on amazon and ebay from time to time. Are the newer editions somehow improved upon the older ones?
  14. I will not pay for the privilege of reading Thom Jurek's record reviews. Sorry.
  15. A buddy of mine had a gig with Florida Phil. a couple of years ago. He played behind this guy once and said it was extremely cheesy[i believe him!]. He got paid.
  16. It was a perfect night for jazz - cold, rainy and empty . Only taxis and garbage trucks were hauling their filthy cargo along 7th Avenue. The belly of the Vanguard was comfortably filled [did I just write that?! ]. They started at 11pm precisely.
  17. Late, you pikced a winner! I'm in love with this album now. Thanks! Beautiful music. Wow!
  18. MLF are playing at the Vanguard all of this week! 2nd week of the two-week long tenure.
  19. are you a father yet, or what?
  20. If there are no time constraints, I'd like to join in as well. A small suggestion. I suppose a software could be written for logging in the answers and for the fastest guesser to win a free cd from a pool of cds we put together. Yearly champion will win the coveted "Yes, I have no life, but at least I got this Joe Thomas cd" award.
  21. They look VG+/NM- and play like VG. Some of the ones I got. They're expensive, but I always manage to pick them up cheap. Because I really like the music.
  22. Guys, this is a modern classic. I got a promo copy the other day and have been spinning it since. It's due Tuesday. Do yourselves a favor - obtain! Those who dig the styles of Brookmeyer, Maria Schneider [and have one Vienna Art Orchestra lp ], Chris McGregor's Brotherhood of Breath, you'll love it. What's killin' is the soloing on this cd, the solos are so good, by all the guys. I feel guilty for buying a promo 2 days before the street date, but I just couldn't pass it by. Hopefully you'll like it when you buy it today! What a great cd! This band continues to release wonderful progressive big band music. Catch them live, if you have a chance! Neo-Modernism
  23. Your reference to T.S.Eliot [and perhaps Chaucer] did not go unnnoticed. rock-ctr, "Live at the Lighthouse 1963-67" is on what label? On Pacific again? Man, that Jazz Corps with Kirk is killin'. Killin'. He plays everything, Coltrane to Ornette to Bechet-like. It's awesome!
