  1. Thanks, brownie. It must've been something! How old were you ?
  2. I have these[on 3 Japanese cds]. Must admit that I liked the Jazz Messengers studio versions of the tunes better than this live material. Also, why is Kenny Clarke's picture on the back cover? Liner notes don't mention him substituting for Blakey.
  3. I guarantee that you will listen to it no less than one time. B)
  4. Picked it up last Friday, it's been getting regular car play for the last 4 days. Lovely disc. It was more traditional than I expected, which was a relief, actually. Mitchell definitely learned from the best of the soulful players like Quebec [and Ben Webster too]. He has that fat velvety sound. I like the quality of the packaging as well. Much better than those goofy Verve lp-sleeves. A clear winner. Thanks for recommending it. The only minor problem I noticed was the recording itself. I haven't played it on my home stereo yet, but there's a squeeking sound that appears in several spots. I thought it was Mitchell's sax, but even when he lays out, I can hear it. It must be either the drum set or someone's chair. Has anyone else noticed it?
  5. Vibes, I think I made a burn for Alan last year. Anyway, it doesn't really matter at all. Glad you like those albums. Landmark discs, both of them. Dickerson's Steeplechase... you're in for a treat. *Divine Gemini *To My Queen Revisited[perhaps you'll dig the beauty of original TMQ in conjunction with the TMQR. It's a retrospective album] *Shades Of Love *To My Son I don't enjoy the abstract improvisational later Steeplechase albums, and I didn't like Life Rays, his only Soul Note disc[his last one]. What is your name, btw? I don't remember your handle from the old BN.
  6. I made those burns, I think. How's the sound quality, a bit heavy on the bass? I forgot to turn off the bass boost on my mini-disc deck, I remember. Disagree on To My Queen. It's not boring at all. If anything, it's delicate and insigthful, imo. Have you heard To My Queen Revisited?
  7. He he. All true. I took a bus to go to Rome from Ladispoli every day for a month. I know what it's like. Great cartoon.
  8. "Me Myself An Eye" is the least interesting Mingus record I've heard, considering the unattainable level of his musicanship.
  9. Bird's Royal Roost sound is pretty atrocious. I got a couple of ESP records. Love 'em.
  10. Stand-up guy. CD delivered super-fast. Thanks.
  11. How do I stop being a PREFERRED MEMBER? I don't want to take cradit cards any longer. That fee thing is bogus plus I just got scammed out of $25 by them. Sold a cd to a guy who used a stolen card. Get this - they deducted the money from MY paypal account, like I was an accomplice of his. Why should I pay for someone who used a stolen card?!!! It's a total rip-off. Obviously their site is a maze. I couldn't find how to drop the "preferred" status. Preferred by PayPal, it should say...
  12. Wake me up when someone picks me.
  13. Where do you register for the AOW Club?
  14. The most alluring quality of RVGs is that they are available.
  15. I sometimes record from vinyl onto mini-disc. Tried declicking, but it was boring. If you have a mini-disc player I can send you some rarities, provided I get a copy of the cleaned-up product. On a side-note, when you record on mini-disc, there's no 16 or 24 or whatever bits. You get the raw product. It's sort of like a reel-to-reel. Just very small.
  16. I'm sure it's a great program; I myself have a Cool-Edit Pro. It's just not worth my time to sit for hours, declicking an LP. I'd rather buy a clean copy for a few bucks more.
  17. I'm a snob? Well, yeah. But how d'you know that? How exactly do you manually de-click the LPs?
  18. I don't buy VG LPs SIGHT UNSEEN[photos mean nothing]. Usually eBay VG grading means that the cat was using the record as a toilet. If the seller grades it as a VG+, it means the cat was using it as a toilet just for a couple of days. There are exceptions. Dan, for me one of the reasons to listen to vinyl is not to use any kind of digital gadgetry. Sound processors, de-clickers, etc. If a record needs all that, it's useless for me. What's the point in taking your records through a digital laundry, when you can just buy a CD?!
  19. eBay vinyl buying lesson No.1 = This is NOT a VG+ record [even though the seller swears it is]
  20. It's sort of an unspoken rule to wait for a fallen rider. No arguements, this is one classy sport. Man, how I wish I had that OLN channel. Armstrong is a much stronger contender for an athlete of the century than Michael Jordan, imo.
  21. Don't forget that the man is riding with one ball. That gives him much more leverage on those steep curves.
  22. It's bizarre, but there's not a single Chapin cd on eBay. A year or two ago there were Chapin boxed sets available day in and day out.
  23. Box doesn't have original covers, just small replicas, doesn't have the original liner notes. But it has a new booklet and an extra disc of live material that was otherwise unavailable on it's own. I hear the sound of that extra disc is not the greatest. Box should cost $40-50. I'd buy 1-2 of his discs[sky Piece and Menagerie Dreams are awesome, especially the Sky Piece, which is an amazing cd, Al is right!], and then, if still interested go for the rest. Or just buy the box.
