What an interesting project! I've got two of the tracks on the album and, funnily enough, was listening to the Rev Gate's CD with his track this morning. Surprised it's sold as many as two thousand, though. Still, Amazon UK has only got 4 left in stock - which is amazing considering that sellers there have it new for just over half price. MG

We have a few snowdrops coming out on the front lawn. Nothing else yet, though. In all the previous winters since we moved in (2005), we've had some heroic flowers that have bloomed right through the winter - first pansies, then Kaffir Lilies. But even they were killed off by the severe cold this winter. I don't do gardening; my missus does and I do digging stuff at her orders. What she plants, grows. What I plant, dies. iTunes doesn't really care where the music is, as long as you tell it where to find it. 1, open iTunes 2. go to edit>options>advanced 3. uncheck "copy items to iTunes media folder" 4. Tell it not to "keep your library organized". 5. Close Preferences. 6. Go to File>add folder to library and browse to your external hard drive. 7. iTunes will import all the files into the library, but it won't actually make another "copy" of the songs, it just points to their location. hope that helps Thanks Shawn - looks like the stuff I want to do. It's good - everyone plays well, as you say. But it always seemed just slightly unenthusiastic to me. In contrast, Reuben Wilson's "Booglaoo to the Beastie Boys" on the same label, with Andrew Beals, while not as adventurous, sounds a LOT more enthusiastic. MG

A King release in the U.S. Recorded 8 July 1954 the day after the "Billy in the lion's den" session, without Leo Parker, but rest of band the same. I never knew Jug recorded for Decca. Highly envious. MG I picked up "Billy in the lion's den" as LP reissue just a few weeks ago, very fine indeed. I had only previously come across Jennings on few Prestige Hammond/guitar sessions. Yes, it's an album I feel very friendly towards MG

I got an iPod yesterday. And a second external hard drive for backing up the first. I haven't even unpacked either, because I've spent almost all day checking the tags on all my music files, before doing a second copy of 'em. (Really, REALLY, boring job.) So, when I do unpack them and try 'em out, my recollection is that iTunes is going to say that it'll look for my music files and shove 'em into my iTunes library. Very helpful thanks, but it'll be on the external. How do I point iTunes in the right direction? Should I turn down iTunes' glorious offer to round up my music? And if so, what then? MG

Love this one, too. In particular, Donald Harrison's solos on "Pilgrimage" and "And the world weeps" really get me. A sound like Hank Crawford's; just perfect. MG

Thanks for that. I like Frank Wess on tenor a lot, so that'll go on my list. He made a nice two tenor date with Jug - "Twistin' the Jug" - for Prestige, and it's on the "Organ combos" twofer. Also with Jug, is "The swingin'est" on Vee-jay, with Bennie Green, Nat Adderley, Frank Foster, Tommy Flanagan, Edie JOnes and Tootie Heath. WOTTTA band! He was also on a nice Junior Mance album - "Opus de funk", live in Japan. Can't remember how much flute he played on it but I don't think it was much. He's also on Jimmy McGriff's "Straight up" on Milestone. He and Fathead both play flute & ts. His own "Goin' Wess" on Town Crier is very good, too. With Bobby Forrester. MG

Nothing I did. Good news though. As I understand it, Amazon claims the sales figures are adjusted every few hours according to purchases. I have seen the "Vonski" number as low a 9000 but my shipments have not been "overwhelming" - not even "whelming". Oh. I saw that note, too. I wonder then if the difference between a few thousandth and several score thousandth is perhaps only a handful of sales. MG
