  1. I've done about $450 worth of stuff this year + $75 that hasn't turned up yet. Without doing precise maths, about two thirds/three quarters has been with the .uk, .fr & .de Amazons, the rest with .com and CDU. Maybe the European Amazons ain't treating you well... MG

  3. Yeah!!!! MG
  4. That's what happened to the "Live at Club Mozambique" set. Houston Person told my mate, in 1980, that the tapes were lost. "Lost" just means they've done what my wife is always doing with important things like her innoculation record - put in a "logical" safe place that she can't recall. MG
  5. Do you find that you often have a backlog of LPs that you've snapped up and haven't had time to actually listen to them? I blush to admit that I do. Not often - though at present, I'm still working my way through the 30-odd African albums I bought in Paris a few weeks ago. I'm about 3/4 through them, in terms of listening enough to get a good feel of them. I used to have that - it's a very interesting album. MG

  12. Got to disagree with you Jazzbo - the band's recordings weren't nearly as good as the band was, on paper. I've got 3 - "Stuff", "More Stuff" and "Stuff it". They have their moments but if you want to hear REAL STUFF then check out Cornell Dupree's "Teasin'", which is slightly earlier than Stuff. Compare Dupree's version of "How long will it last" on that LP with the version on "Stuff". Also compare Cornell's own albums "Can't get through", "Uncle Funky", "Child's play" and "Bop 'n blues". Cornell is the most profoundly KOOL person on earth! Never saw Stuff live. I can believe they would have torn the place down. But it didn't happen in the studio, for me. MG

  14. Er... dinner's ready. See yer later. MG
  15. A point of information: was it Michael Cuscuna who was behind the Rare Groove releases, or Bob Belden? If Belden was the man (and I suspect that was the case) wouldn't it make more sense to ask him? MG
  16. I have all those OJCs plus "Back home", another with Ray Brown & Elvin Jones, which I like a lot. He is also on Teddy Edwards' "Good gravy" - OJC, which is a lovely album. I also have him on an LP called "Down home reunion" by Young men from Memphis, UA. This is with Frank Strozier, George Coleman, Booker Little, Louis Smith, Calvin Newborn, George Joyner and Charles Crosby. The version of "After hours" on this is damn near as good as the one on "We three". Lots of people remark on Newborn's speed, but for me he's one of the greatest pianists for plain ole blues and slow, funky ballads. MG
  17. They're very nice. I've got this one. MG
  18. Late again - but best wishes all the same! MG
  19. All this balling must be the reason that Diet Pepsi is never on the scene. MG

  21. Have to confess I'm not at all familiar with Johnny Lytle (vibes). Lytle is a good vibes player - not a great one, but a good one. Usually (except for one blinding Milestone session in 1972), he's very bluesy, very down to earth. Actually, he's very much at the same sort of level and the same sort of direction as Timmons, which makes "Working out" a very nice session between equals - people who weren't trying to do anything more than make good satisfying music. MG
  22. WOW!!! Atlee Chapman & Bu Pleasant! WOW!!! (2) Irene Reid with Jiggs Chase! WOW again! MG
  23. I think that's correct. I never needed to log in before. Now I have to sometimes (and sometimes not - dunno why that is) but never realise it until I want to post something, unless I'm looking at the sexiest album sleeves thread If this is happening to everyone, then I guess that might account for it. MG The only time that I've had to re-log in is when the board went down[because I never log out]. Btw, if you leave this site without logging out, do others see you as an active/present member at the bottom of the Forum Home page? [inquiring minds need to know.] I never log out either; but every so often, it makes me log in. Pain in the bumhole. MG I stayed logged in too, but if you delete the cookie, you will have to log back in. I don't delete my cookies - someone must be eating them. MG
  24. For me, "Soul food" is the REAL date Wayne Shorter is OK if you happen to like Modern Jazz, but he was no Soul Jazz musician (which is not the same as saying he didn't play with soul). This CD, which I think is the only CD issue of "Soul food", will become increasingly difficult to get hold of. Ace, who issued it in UK only, lost their contract soon after Concord bought Fantasy and I can't see Universal Europe picking up the BGP thread again. MG
