Morgan/Shorter and Chambers/Kelly Vee Jays

I'd not have thought of Cicely Tyson till I read it in this thread. But, duh... I should have known. -
Anybody know anything else about the new packaging? I just purchased, last week, The Complete Jack Johnson box (with the metal spine). I'd like to have The Complete Silent Way box. It looks like Amazon is still offering the original packaging on the Silent Way box. I'd rather spend more money, if necessary, to purchase the nicer packaging/set. For me, the dollar cost is not the issue. Is it recommended that I purchase the original packaging before it's no longer available? Or, wait till only the new packaging is available? Or, indifferent?

I've been making my way through the Miles Davis 1960s Quintet (the Plugged Nickel Quintet) in recent weeks. This is, really, my first time to listen to this material in detail. I always stop with Miles after enjoying the 1950s Prestige and Columbia material. To my surprise, the Miles 1960s music has been a very enjoyable, creative, mystical, and rewarding adventure. I've listened to the Plugged Nickel Highlights (only because I've not yet purchased the full box), E.S.P., Miles Smiles, and Sorcerer. I've read reviews that Miles Smiles was 'the strong' release but I've enjoyed E.S.P more. I was surprised to read, in this thread, per the poll results, that E.S.P. is holding it's own. It seems like I've read reviews saying that E.S.P.is good but has no direction and doesn't show-off this group as well as it could. I've not yet ventured into Nefertiti, Filles, and the subsquent releases. Although, I have listened, several times, to In A Silent Way and Bitches Brew. A couple of posts in this thread mention the titles in order of Sorcerer, Nefertiti and Water Babies. From what I understand, however, the next release after Nefertiti, back in the day, was Miles In the Sky. What is the recommended order to listen to this music the first time through? Should I purchase, listen, and learn via the Water Babies route or the Miles In the Sky route?

It's interesting... how much these two covers look alike. The same look of the woman, the same kind of pose. -
I just purchased my copy of The Complete Jack Johnson box. This is great 'driving' music. I drove across town, from where I purchased the box, to where I live. I was nearly in a trance by the time I got home. I've listened to only a couple of the disks. Yes, the first disk, with the 'Willie Nelson' collection, does get a bit tiresome on a play straight through. However, I don't believe the music was intended to be listened to this manner. At the same time, it's interesting to see how the music progressed on each alternate take. I wonder what inspired Miles to use the term Willie Nelson? The 'Go Ahead John' set, on the other hand, is quite good. Whether these songs are alternate takes or not, every take is unique and very good.

vibes: I agree. I probably should have added an option for 'both.' There was a time when I used both. I, like you, have my laptop connected through a wireless connection to the internet. The laptop is all I use lately. Tjazz: Yes. I believe that portable computers with a wireless internet connection will be the future. I don't like being stuck in a single location with my computer anymore.

Curb Your Enthusiasm on DVD tomorrow (1/13)!

Everybody I know hates this show. I laugh out loud most every time I watch it. I remember when Larry had discoverd he enjoyed peeing, more, when he sat down. He was complaining, through the show's half-hour, wondering who left the seat up. But, yeah, Larry's character is a likeable asshole with no personal skills. -
Yes, yes... I forgot about the fan. The laptop's fan runs only when necessary (which is not often). Other than those times, the laptop is silent. Another positive to using the laptop computer.

Friday afternoon: Right now, I'm soon on my way to purchase a big breakfast burrito. Then on to get a couple of Krispy Kremes and coffee. Maybe a stop at the Border's store.

Hmmm... well, you will keep the Mosaic receipt safe. In this way, when the box does finally wear out... the receipt will still maintain the safety of the acid-free baggie.

If I remember correctly, you have to have Norton 2002 or higher to work with Windows XP.

I'd have been proud to be Wynton Kelly. I always thought that Kelly, following Coltrane, was a very nice (and desired) change of pace. I listen to Trane's blowing. Then Kelly, and, oohhh... this is nice.

How long, timewise, does it take for you to make the drive from Phoenix to Las Vegas? In my prime I've done it before in under 4 1/2 hours, but these days with the delays at the dam, it's more like 5 to 5 1/2. Okay. I was wondering about the dam, etcetera. I've not made the drive in many years. My guesstimate was correct when I figure the drive time, from Tucson, would be about eight hours.

I was getting something from the closet of my extra bedroom/computer room. I noticed my desktop computer sitting there, all alone and covered in a thin layer of dust. I used to always use my desktop computer. I liked the 'big' components. I enjoyed the 19" Sony monitor, the full-sized keyboard, and the better-quality speaker system. I used to play online games (such as Unreal Tournament). About two years ago, I decided a laptop computer might be for me. I purchased a laptop computer for the fun of it. As a result, I have nearly quit using my desktop computer. I discovered the laptop computer can go everywhere with me. All my friends and family have broadband internet connections. I take my computer when I go a-visiting, plug it into their systems, and have instant internet access. I keep my laptop computer sitting on the sofa cushion when I'm on the couch. I keep my laptop computer sitting on the kitchen counter when I'm eating breakfast & lunch. I know you've seen the pictures of my laptop computer sitting on my bed. B) When I want to listen to music, I turn on my 'real' stereo (rather than the speakers on my desktop computer), grab my laptop computer, and sit between my 'real' stereo speakers. The laptop computer has become so much more personal. It seemed odd, when looking at the desktop computer, knowing that if I used it, I'd be 'stuck' in that same postion, in that same room. The computer has so many components and can't be easily moved. To be fair, the deskop computer is much more sturdy, the monitor is crisper & brighter. However, the laptop computer has become my computer of choice.

Congrats doubleM. You will enjoy the Tristano/Konitz/Marsh Mosaic. This was my first exposure to these three gentlemen. I've enjoyed every bit of it. Their playing styles are very infectious. You get caught in their groove and you want to hear more and more. After knowing nothing about Lee Konitz, till my purchase of the T/K/M box (approximately a month ago), I've been looking for Konitz titles in the CD bins. Soulstation1 was concerned the T/K/M might not last till the end of the month. The set is STILL holding at the Mosaic site. Maybe it will hold long enough for all who desire it?

I remember a post claiming that all we talk about, in the Organissimo forum, is 'hardbop' and 'politics.' Judging from the last couple of days, this appears to be quite untrue.

Are you deserving of the 2nd Orgy? Naw, I cheated. B) Really?

Did JSngry just start another 'Stupid Question' thread? This time disguised as 'Who's Your Daddy?'
-
Based on the #1 poster of this forum... maybe it coulde be called The Sangrey Award?
-
Oh, sure; blame me! Just don't suggest naming wesbed's award The Golden Moose Turd... I think Orgy is good. But... hmmm, maybe somebody (not me!) should do a poll to determine what to name the award?

You're taking away the pressure for me to feel I need to buy this set now. This is no fun.
