Applause was the label, I never bought any of their crappy reissues.

Which company was it that put out those crappy Blue Note reissues with cheap graphics and a noticeable lack of color? Even worse than RCA's Dynaflex were the LPs made with recycled vinyl after the Arab Oil embargo in 1973. Quiet passages often sounded like Rice Krispies in milk, especially in the first pressing of ELP's Brain Salad Surgery.

I always regret not interviewing Hank Jones.

There are still models that have CD players. In any case, I will find a way to choose music rather than rely on someone else.
-
I did hear Paul Motian, in a trio led by Lee Konitz with Dan Tepfer.

We’ve had trial Sirius-XM offers with new vehicles we purchased. They were never used. With the huge backlog of jazz CDs I have, I would rather choose the music in the car.

It's a pretty short list of Woodstock artists/bands that I've seen in concert: Stephen Stills (when he had his band Manassas) The Who (both before and after Keith Moon's death) Creedence Clearwater Revival (after Tom Fogerty left)

I never bothered with satellite programming because I couldn’t see what was available. Years ago I remember a Denny Zeitlin Trio date at Dizzy’s that was to be aired one Saturday and because I was in jazz media a satellite rep sent me a receiver to pick it up, though without instructions how to use it. It arrived two days after the broadcast and I eventually junked it.

Jazz musicians in TV commercials. Can you recall any?
Ken Dryden replied to Hardbopjazz's topic in Miscellaneous Music
I remember Rosemary Clooney singing on camera about Coronet toilet paper prior to her comeback on Concord Jazz. I remember Count Basie and Ella Fitzgerald in a Memorex print ad, but was there also a commercial? -
Thanks so much for sharing the link to this unissued music. I was fortunate to discover Don Byas early as a jazz collector in the 1970s, while many of his LPs and the 1945 Town Hall concert were readily obtainable at reasonable prices.

What live music are you going to see tonight?
Ken Dryden replied to mikeweil's topic in Live Shows & Festivals
I saw Gregory Tardy tonight, with bassist Sean Conley and drummer Dave Potter. -
Working on a review of it right now, it's a gem.

Usually I own most anything of interest in Audiophile's newsletter. I rarely want to pay $50 for a vintage used LP, or half-speed master reissue, I prefer CDs as they generally sound better and take up a lot less space.

We don't live in a top 100 metro market, so some potentially good movies may never be shown in theatres, or are here for a cup of coffee before leaving. I have no interest in superheros, computer-generated films, remakes of older films (though there are exceptions when the remake exceeds the original film), or the usual crap that Hollywood releases these days. Tell a story with a good script, get a good cast and have a director who knows how to put it all together. Clint Eastwood and Ron Howard can do it, who else is worth the investment these days?

I haven't seen a film in the theater since Sully. Current movies are generally of no interest to me these days.

It was indeed, rechanneled to fake stereo. Too bad that the Gershwin medley was edited down on the original release in the 1950s to save on royalties.
-
This wasn't on ebay, but offered in AudioPhile USA's email newsletter. I am surprised anyone would pay $45 for this LP, as it was rather common and on top of that, the music needed speed correction.

Sad news. It was always great running into Mark Levine at IAJE and I've enjoyed his solo CDs. RIP.

You can hook a computer directly into a cd recorder, but those annoying gaps will be inserted in real time. To make a show worth listening, those gaps need to be removed.

I'm aware of the Japanese CD, as I own it. Evidently any ability to block the reissue of that album must have expired with him, though I don't know how much power any artist has to block Japanese reissues.
-
Sadly, very few Bud Freeman LPs have been reissued on CD.

Dave Brubeck told me that he had no interest in the reissue of The Last Time We Saw Paris or Jackpot! Live in Las Vegas. I seem to recall that he had bad memories of Paul Desmond's behavior during that European tour, while the sound of the new Baldwin baby grand on the Las Vegas LP was the pits, the piano couldn't hold a decent pitch.

The link leads to an error message, has the article been removed?
