Fair point, although I wasn't suggesting listening habits should be determined by a musician's importance in popular culture. It is only one measure of the relative significance of the music compared to the vaunted 90s bands like Pearl Jam etc. I would definitely argue that bands such as the Who, Led Zep, Stones etc had a much wider influence and impact - and a more lasting one - than the Smiths, for example, ever had ( outside Manchester ). How many bands formed as a result of these 60s and 70s bands compared to those 'inspired' by The Smiths? Arguably more indie bands formed as a result of listening to The Velvet Underground - a 60s band. Source?

When I got this coupon, I had to commit to buying another CD at full price within the next year in order to take advantage. They haven't done that with a coupon before, AFAIK. How odd.

Frances the Mute is one of my favorites of theirs. It is a tough pick between that one and the most recent one. The only thing is that they sound a little compressed on this new record. I would have liked a little more air around things.

The Minnesota Orchestra has been programming a number of Aho's works, to much acclaim. Haven't been present at any of them, though.

I saw piece on Glass in Spin magazine of all places; mention was made of a ten-disc anthology of his music coming out on Nonesuch records later this year. [This follows in the path of their Reich and John Adams boxes, i suppose.] It will contain Music in 12 parts, for sure. Not sure what else will be in it.

Saw this band open up for David Torn's Prezens, and they were far and away more enjoyable than that group. [They share much of the same personnel.] Great tunes, and playing from Berne and Rainey, and Taborn. And Alessi. And Gress. I think I need to buy those records, now that I think of it...

I have a pal that needed to complete his Jandek discography [he only needed 11 more] so we went in on an order of 20 titles. I now have 10 Jandek discs, and look forward to digging in. At $4 each, it is a pretty reasonable gamble.

I know the Ra track is a VBR, so that is probably where the trouble lies.

I have a Sun Ra track from emusic that says it is 728 hours long. It is not. That would be a good cost per minute, if so.

Interesting to hear what those extra years adds to those songs. I love them both for their own charms. The 20s stuff sounds rough-n-rambunctious, but the 60s is more contemplative and world-weary. Sugar Baby is one of my all-time faves. I think Frisell covers it on his "The Willies" release.

Maybe it was your copy I found at Laurie's bookstore on 9th and Nicollet Mall. I wonder what Jim was charging on it? He was way overpriced on a lot of things... It very well could have been -- can't remember where I sold it. Things are WAY overpriced there; run-of-the-mill OJCs will run upwards of $20. From what I recall I paid $5 for it at least ten years ago. I have only been here for about 8, so it must have been a different copy.
