  1. I swear I just saw it vibrate! Man, i gotta cut down on the caffeine...
  2. Yeah dude, where is Cat Shatner? I though for sure he would pop out of the peas.
  3. I just discovered Jörn Gerstenberg. He did the artwork for the most recent Jan Jelinek/Triosk record.
  4. Agnes Martin:
  5. they have the Coltrane Ballads Deluxe?? I havent seen that in there, but A Love Supreme deluxe is. I too have wondered why choose certain discs and not others Oops! My mistake. You are correct, GregK, it is the Deluxe Edition of A Love Supreme that I was thinking of. B)
  6. I got that Harder They Come soundtrack earlier this month from BMG. That is awesome--I had never heard it before, and the bonus disc has a bunch of gems on it, too! I wish they would get the Coltrane "Coltrane" deluxe edition. I often wonder what makes them choose one thing [the "Ballads" deluxe edition] and not other things.

I have been a fan of the Sankt Gerold disk from the first time I heard it. About four minutes into the first 'Variation' all of the musicians seem to arrive on a plateau, with Bley playing some thick chords, and Parker sounding wonderfully melodic--you can hear the reed buzz he plays so quietly. It feels as if they go off the other side of the plateau about three minutes later into more abstract territory once again, but those few minutes were very powerful, almost reminiscent of Jimmy Giuffre's trio with Bley and Swallow. Perhaps this trio's explorations are a logical extension of that tradition.
  8. There is an early-years Bill Monroe compilation on RCA available in the country clearance for $1.99. I listened to it on my way in to work this morning. It was before Earl Scruggs joined the band and before bluegrass, but it is some superb old-time 'pickin and a singin.' Also picked up the Taraf de Haidouks album for $1.99. Haven't dug into that yet. It should also be noted that they now have listed the 'Live at Sin-e' Legacy Edition of the Jeff Buckley EP. It comes with a DVD!
  9. I'll be leaving the cold confines of a Minnesota winter to holiday in sunny, warm, NE Iowa. I'll be taking the last train to Clarksville.

I listened to some bits of the Joe Morris solo acoustic album at the AUM website, and it was quite interesting to hear how his unique dialect translates to the unamplified instrument. Singularity
  11. No Cecil Taylor rec list is complete without For Olim, a solo date on Soul Note. He plays some brief pieces on here [relatively speaking] that are more easily digested for a newer listener.
  12. No, but I did watch the Scrabble championship on ESPN 2 about a month ago. That was awesome.
  13. It would have to be the Giuffre set for me. I have listened to the Western Suite so many times I can sing the solos along with. [When I am alone, of course.] I am a sucker for almost everything Giuffre did. Thankfully, I snatched this one as it was on its way out. The Pee Wee Russell stuff is fun, and the trio items with Jim Hall are superb.

Me too! I have bought exactly two RVGs in stores of the last few batches, only to find them in the club shortly thereafter.
  16. A to Z baby, A to Z.
  17. Love that pic, Weizen!
  18. Rage Against the Machine? They had a searing version on their covers album a while back.
  19. What is your OS? I am more adept at some than others.
  20. Holy cow!
  21. I have the 1.2 with the stock Oysster cartidge and it is a gem. My only beef is that I had a defective motor--an isolated incedent, I am sure.
  22. On the new expanded edition of Live at Sin-e is a performance of "If you See Her, Say Hello" that nearly had me in tears. I went out and bought Blood on the Tracks the next day.
  23. Go with a Honda. Or a Toyota. Stay away from the Chrysler Cirrus. Mine plagues me on a quarterly basis.
  24. Here is another vote for Duluth. Any time of the year is fine, as I have been hardened by many years of upper-midwest winters. We could stop at the Electric Fetus's northern store. And, a beer at Grandma's. The wife and I head up there each year in the fall around our anniversary. It is not to far from Minneapolis and it is beautiful Up North.
