  1. 'bout time! We have been rallying for this set for years. What's next? Those Braxton Arista sides?
  2. Alpha Beta all the way dude.
  3. how did you get these vouchers? I tried clicking on the link posted above and it redirects me to the sign in page and once i'm signed in i can't find any settlement pages. I have been a member off and on for 4 years, and I've bought plenty of regular priced CDs If you go to Google and search for "bmg settlement" and click on their cached copy, it will bring you to the right place. I had the same trouble accessing it at work. I might try to make multiple claims, as I was a member at least three times during that era. We'll see...
  4. Mine are organized the same way, and have made some of the same observations. I'll have a closer look at the rack tonight to give some specifics.
  5. Gerard Hoffnung does a killer version of this bit. Its on this two disc anthology I picked up: Hoffnung
  6. Oops. I must have read the review elsewhere, as it is not in AMG. Just listened to some samples at CD Universe, and it is cooking. Some of it reminds me of Earl Hooker, with that wah pedal.
  7. Found this in the little store here in Green Bay (!) SMOKES! diggin' it - go buy it Anyone get the Mel Brown or any other Verve reissues on the 9th? I have been waiting to hear what anyone thought of the Mel Brown as well. Looks good, and the AMG review was favorable. Mel's lookin' smooth with that hair.

    Funny Rat

I like this one a great deal as well. In the first track, about 4-5 minutes in, Bley plays a bit that feels like the eye of a hurricane--there was some agitated before, and it feels as if the group has come to a plateau. It is quite tonal, and their improvisations are worthy compositions in themselves. After another 4-5 minutes, it is back into the twisting dialogues. It is those few minutes in the clearing that make this disc a keeper for me.
  9. I look forward to it. I miss hearing his crisp acoustic work. I only wish he would have picked it up for those Shakti reunion records...
  10. Me on a recent trip to London...
  11. Love that album, but damn. $
  12. Has anyone seen this?
  13. What era is the live Dave Liebman material from?
  14. Plus, two sessions AMG doesn't have: "Cookin' The Blues" Buddy De Franco (cl); Tal Farlow (g); Sonny Clark (p/org); Gene Wright (B); Bobby White (d). 1954?. I Can't Get Started Verve LP MGV 2513 Cookin' The Blues Verve LP MGV 2513 Stardust Verve LP MGV 2513 How About You Verve LP MGV 2513 Little Girl Blue Verve LP MGV 2513 Indian Summer Verve LP MGV 2513 "Swing Guitars" Tal Farlow (g); Claude Williamson (p); Red Mitchell (B). Holy Crap!
  15. The Farlow will be a hugh Mosaic set. Here are the sesions I found on the AMG website: 1954 The Tal Farlow Album Norgran 1954 Artistry of Tal Farlow Norgran 1954 Autumn in New York Polygram 1955 The Interpretations of Tal Farlow Verve 1955 Poppin' and Burnin' Verve 1955 Fascinating Rhythm Norgran 1955 A Recital by Tal Farlow Norgran 1956 Tal Verve 1957 The Swinging Guitar of Tal Farlow Verve 1958 This Is Tal Farlow Polygram 1959 The Guitar Artistry of Tal Farlow Verve 1959 Tal Farlow Plays the Music of Harold Arlen Verve I only know "This is Tal Farlow" (Verve Elite Edition). After closer inspection, it turns out that Poppin' and Burnin' is a compilation album. However, that still leaves about ten albums worth of material. How many discs will that make? Six or seven? I'll be buying that.
  16. I am pleased as punch to see that the Tal Farlow Verve sides will finally be released in a set. Wooo! The more CDs with Eddie Costa in my collection, the happier I am. I have "The Swinging Guitar of..." and "This is Tal Farlow" but I am missing "Tal" and anything else that I am not aware of. What else is there?
  17. I think "Sweet Honey Bee" was part of the first round of Rare Grooves, without the clear tray. Also in this series was Grant Green "Alive" on its first CD issue.
  18. For Lon: An interview with Gigi.
  19. In defense of this, playing entire works was often not the norm when the pieces were written. This is a relatively contemporary phenomenon. [in terms of classical music performance.]
  20. There is a new album out featuring Laswell on acoustic guitar and keys. The group is called Abyssinia Infinite and the album is "Zion Roots." Dig on the review and samples here. More info here. This one also features as the centerpiece the vocals of a one Ejigayehu "Gigi" Sibabaw. It less a less glossy version of her last full-length album. The sax player on the first cut has to have the most beautiful sound on tenor that I have ever heard. This is a super album. The Painkiller stuff with Zorn and Laswell is interesting. Not jazz, really, but something new. I have really enjoyed the Tabla Beat Science live albumthat Laswell is a part of with Zakir Hussain. A certain Ethiopian singer guests on the record as well. The ambient stuff on Subharmonic has left me a little cold. Other than that, call me a fan. I once told a friend "I just can't get enough of Bill Laswell." His response, in light of Laswell's massive discography was "Actually, I think you can."
  21. You got chops!
  22. I'm with Jerry on this one. I got one of these as a gift this holiday season after my old one all but crapped out. It has all of the features I was looking for, including AM/FM, MP3, and CD. Love it.
  23. I just bought a pair of Sennhieser HD 202 cans for my daily abuse for $29.95. They are closed-ear, with pretty decent sound. For the abuse of going in and out of the work bag, and any from the gym they seemed like the choice for me. My old pair of Grado SR-60s were nice, but the open-ear design didn't work for anything outside of the house. [That, and when I had touble with the cord, they charged me $25 to repair it!]

    Ken Nordine

Colors was the BOMB. Especially "Flesh."
  25. Now that is a shipping CHARGE. For headphones even. Probably under 6 oz. Damn.
