  1. Kylie Minogue Her last two albums, one with a real deep house sound and the last with the NY garage thing get mucho spin time around my place.
  2. Sent you a PM about the custom slips. Are they still available?
  3. I have always dug the "Fantasias..." LP on Vanguard. Some of it feels like eclecticism for its own sake, but interesting. Especially in its historical context. The piece titled Blend is especially nice, with Billy Higgins. I might just have to throw this on tonight...
  4. Could that be Freddie Green?
  5. You ought to seek out Jim Luce, radio producer. At a recent public radio conference he handed me a copy of the Basie documentary he was working on. He would be a good source.
  6. My new offer is unlimited 70% off. So I indulged: Wes Montgomery - Incredible Jazz Guitar [sACD Hybrid] Sonny Rollins - Tenor Madness [sACD Hybrid] $20 and change, with shipping. Woo!
  7. That was my thread over at the BNBB. I started listening to everything from A to Z on new year's day. I had one rule: I had to listen to at least 1/2 of the running time or 1/2 of the tracks, which ever the greater. To plow through 650+ discs, it took me over three months. To make matters tougher, I could not buy anything in that time period, until I was finished. Talk about a challenge...
  8. Its okay man, I have been thinking about getting the DeFranco/Clark set they have. I have been enjoying the Tal Farlow set from Definitive for some time now...
  9. The only copy I have ever seen was in a Borders cut-out bin about 4 years ago, so you may have some trouble digging it up. It is pretty intense music, as you might imagine with Pharoah on board. This place seems to have it in stock...
  10. Yes. Sony France put out the two disc set a number of years ago.
  11. Any album with both Leo Morris and Idris Muhammad HAS to be killer.
  12. If anyone will be buying this set and looking to unload their Japanese reissue of "Tal," just PM me.
  13. I used this code to score some doubles: Bob Dylan, Blonde On Blonde (SACD Hybrid) (2 CD(s) Ornette Coleman, The Complete Science Fiction Sessions (Remastered) (2 CD(s) Marvin Gaye, What's Going On (Remastered/Deluxe Edition) (2 CD(s)) James Brown, Live At The Apollo Vol. II (Remastered- Deluxe Edition) (2 CD(s) Allman Brothers Band, The Allman Brothers Band At Fillmore East (Deluxe Edition) (2 CD(s) $5/ea or $49 for the whole lot. This deal works real nice on the double sets!
  14. Wasn't Grant Green's Iron City originally on Cobblestone?
  15. Go to the Gasthaus. The drummer in the polka trio is killer. He was playing all of these hot swing licks as we drank out of a glass boot of beer.
  16. As an Iowa native, I will second the motion to make it to Iowa City. It is not far from Cedar Rapids, and it has the most culture of any place in the whole state. A few decent record stores, great jazz fest in the summer, and the University attracts some decent talent for their performance series.
  17. All of 62 today, 83 tomorrow, 55 on Thurs. Nice roller-coaster forecast, eh? The tree pollen up here is KILLING me.

    It's Tuesday!

I am all about that Mary Lou Williams disc.
  19. When I saw this thread, I thought "Again?" A guy I used to work with at a record store was a huge fan. He got some tix to see them and then they broke up and cancelled the show. He was bummed. It happened once, it'll happen again.
  20. MU [both Parts, One and Two] are the BOMB. I was initially scared away by all of the other instruments used other than trumpet and drums, but when I found the Charly re-issue for under £3 while in London a couple of months ago I could not resist. Then again, I think I could listen to a full LP of Ed Blackwell solos...
  21. My favorite Rare Grooves album. I love it because the band burns greeezy on a few, and sounds like a bop combo on some others. Perfect mix! Idris is unstoppable funky. Just like he is on Grant Green's "Alive."
  22. soulstation1, you gotta tune in. They're playing Money Jungle! This is going to make my day here at work.
  23. The metal-on-metal concept of the Miles/Trane box always got to me like nails on a chalkboard. Nothing a little WD-40 wouldn't cure. I thought the most nifty-est one was the Miles/Gil box, with the brass-lookin' spine, like the horn itself.
  24. $12-$16? How exceptionally reasonable. I would go in a second. Few major artists ever pass through the Twin Cities for less than $25-$35. Too bad I'm all the way up here...
  25. The Reebok Pump. Man, did I ever want a pair of those...
