My good friend in Kawasaki, who is also from Sheffield, is a mate of Bean's and has told me many a tale of his encounters with the criminal world when he worked as a probation officer.

Rewatching - The State Within - BBC (2006)
-
A sad passing of one of the greats. His later directorial successes have eclipsed his fine acting roles. The Angry Silence, Seance On A Wet Afternoon and 10 Rillington Place are all brilliant and only a small part of his early film career.

Rewatching The Shadow Line.

I completely agree about The Honourable Woman, it was outstanding.

That web site is a waste of time. Surprisingly I've just discovered that Lawson's have bought out HMV Japan and the speculation on why they are being used for delivery is now explained, well maybe. Hence the puzzling web site. It still doesn't explain why the site isn't working but the possible explanation of early teething problems looks more plausible. I also found out that a brand new HMV opened in Shibuya on August the 2nd. If the heat isn't too unbearable I'll have a walk down and see if I can find someone to explain what the problem is with the site. It really depends on getting hold of the right person, the counter girls are useless. If I manage to come up with a solution I'll post it. Keep your fingers crossed.

In that case I've got no idea. I can't believe HMV have decided to use a convenience store for foreign deliveries, clearly it's fucked up.

The problem boils down to your not being able to enter a UK style address, if I'm correct. Clearly they must have two sites, one for Japanese addresses and one for foreign addresses. Maybe the problem is that you have ended up trying to enter a foreign address on a page only designed to accept Japanese ones. The layout and style of addresses here is completely different to the number/street/city/postal code type used in UK. Here it's division within the postal area/sub division/number of house or apt/postal area/city or town/prefecture/post code. I know this is little help but it might at least throw some light on the problem. If you were able to post the layout of the address page it might help determine if my idea is correct. I've had past problems with US sites where non US style addresses were automatically rejected.

Right. Along with7-11 they are the biggest convenience store chain in Tokyo. 7-11 have an identical web order pick up and payment service.

Yes, I order from CDJapan all the time and everything works fine. Unfortunately they tend to sell out of new releases very quickly; HMV Japan seem to have quite a bit of back stock that I'm interested in. This is SO frustrating......perhaps I'll e-mail them to see whether they can help. In case of HMV Japan you probably could hit the language barier rather quickly... Correct. I don't think they could care less about selling outside Japan. They are running the mail order side in conjunction with Lawson's convenience stores. If you are out all day and don't want to use the regular mail, you can have your stuff sent to the nearest Lawsons, and pay over the counter if you like. It's a great system- if you live in Japan. I'd offer to help but I don't know how much use it would be. BTW, the main mega shop in Shibuya closed a couple of years ago, a sign all is not well for them.

Turmeric will brighten teeth, bright yellow. I'm with Sidewinder, after three rootcanals I don't want to hear about anything dental.

I've been rewatching the latter part of Person Of Interest season 2. The introduction of Ms Shaw and the reappearance of Ms Gross aka Root marks the start of the amazing story arc that leads into season three. Great tv that puts a lot of films to shame, count me as a major fan.

A sad end to a brilliant mind, his ideas and one liners seemed to explode from him at warp speed. Fisher King caught his plaintive side perfectly for me. As has already been said, alcoholism and depression are a heavy burden.

Thank you everyone.

Sad to hear that but it's to be expected at her age. She'll live on in her films.

The Killing Season 4 I've watched the first and second episodes and although my expectations were low, I was pleasantly surprised at how gripping it was. Tight, straightforward and not a red herring in sight.

The Honourable Woman Excellent, almost prescient, the last two episodes have put things into much needed focus. You can add me to that list, I've seen a few clips here and there but purposely avoided seeing a full episode. I hated the male cast members so much I wouldn't watch that show if my life depended on it. I'll second that.

The Assets Excellent stuff and the best of it's kind since the similarily neglected Rubicon. The predominantly British cast are first rate and the focus on the investigative team's search for Ames is absorbing and compelling. ABC should hang their corporate heads in disgrace for the way they have botched the showing of this great mini series.

I suspected as much. Now I have confirmation from someone who knows. Luxury It reminds me of a summer visit to Sheffield. I went to the barbers and was asked how I was coping with the heat, it was 25C !! It's a few degrees hotter than that in the middle of the night here, with 100% humidity.
