  1. IIRC, there is a 90-minute Jazz Messengers concert floating about on video, from Paris in '59 I'm pretty sure. Wonder if it's the same thing (from the same concert). I've got a copy of the 90-minute thing somewhere, actually -- if I can dig it up, and if the label hasn't fallen off the tape (which dates back to about 1991), I'll see what it says. By my memory is "90 minutes" and "Paris". (And according to the link, this DVD is but 51 minutes long, with another 15 minutes of audio-only music.)
  2. OK, what else should Michael do while he's here on Nov. 4th? I'll give this some thought myself and post a few things in a day or two.
  3. What Bertrand said.
  4. Yeah, Bryant's got more history, and by all accounts - it probably is THE place to go. I still like Jack Stack better. (I didn't say it was better, just that I liked it better.)
  5. My vote would also be for Jack Stack -- my favorite BBQ in town.
  6. Think the concert is at the Folly (Yup), not The Gem. (Do feel free to check out the Blue Room if you're so inclined, Michael, but FYI - it's a good mile or two east of the Folly.)
  7. Doesn't work on out-of-stock items, FWIW...
  8. Lecture series he was doing back in May, so it looks like he's back in the swing of things...
  9. Anybody know how Phil Ranelin is doing these days?? (FYI, the rest of this thread (everything above this post), dates back to December 2005.) Edit: Did a search of Google's "News" function, and it appears from this link, that Phil is playing again...
  10. I'd done searches for Blakey footage before, and no wonder this one never came up.
  11. Woody Herman - Nice 1979 Paul, are you in this?? Didn't see you there, but there weren't a lot a close-ups of the bones. (Or is '79 too early for you in the Herd?)
  12. Freddie Hubbard in Norway 1965
  13. Stumbled on this last night, much to my surprise... Gerald Wilson Big Band In Europe (late 60's or early 70's??) What other jazz footage from the 60's and 70's can you find?? (Footage that isn't as widely known.) Doesn't have to be artists from the 60's and 70's, just footage shot during that general time frame, plus or minus. Seems like I'm stumbling on stuff all the time, and I'd rather these clips not get lost in the mega-huge "general Youtube" thread. Thanks!!!
  14. FWIW, "Boogaloo" has to be one of my two or three all-time favorite John Patton dates. One of his very best, IMHO.
  15. Can you (or somebody, anybody??) post those "AAJ review "guidelines here?? I'd be really curious to see them. Thanks!!
  16. No, it's not worth $44 -- but it's a DAMN good session -- one of Patton's very best, IMHO. There were two sessions on the Select that I didn't already own, and when I bought the Select - I was primarily interestred in "That Certain Feeling" cuz it looked so good on paper. So I had high expectations going in (cuz I wouldn't have bought the set just to get the other, earlier session), and I have to say that "That Certain Feeling" exceeded those high expectations of mine by quite a margin. No, it's probably not worth $44 for just that one session (especially since it's divided across two discs ). But unless and until that date gets issued as a single somewhere on the planet, it's at least "almost" worth $44 -- and I'm damn glad I got it.
  17. Yes, yes, yes, and yes. "That Certain Feeling" kicks ass!! One of the two best / most interesting Jimmy Ponder dates I've ever heard (the other being the earlier bonus "Grass Roots" session). If you've got the scratch to get it -- I'd say get it. Downside -- that one session is spread across two different discs on the Select (I hate when that happens to my favorite sessions). Trouble is, thought, "That Certain Feeling" has never been issued on disc as a single, not even in Japan. One way or another, get it. Soon or later, you're gonna want it -- and it's definitely worth having (even if you have to burn both halves of the session onto the same CDR to really enjoy it properly).
  18. Whiskey Tango Foxtrot??
  19. Let us know how it all turns out!! Always love to hear of a happy ending.
  20. Would have rather he'd rotted in prison for 10 or 20 years.
