  1. No need to -- it's never hardly changed in over 5 years.
  2. Maybe that was their problem. ← Can't say I've ever bought anything from Red Trumpet, and the primary reason was their prices. Sure, they weren't all that out of line with what Amazon, B&N, and Tower were charging --- but then again, their import prices always seemed high to me as well. Dusty G. was often as much as $8 or even $10 less per disc (for the same titles). Meaning I'd often see titles available for "mid-to-high $30's" at Red Trumpet and the others I just mentioned --- vs. "mid-to-high $20's" at Dusty -- again, for the very same discs. Usually something like $36 at RT vs. $28 at DG. Good (or even great) resource for hard-to-find imports - or not ---- Red Trumpet was always too rich for my blood.
  3. What's the cover look like?? Thanks!!
  4. Yeah, that's based on 5% annual inflation -- but have we really had an average of 5% inflation over the last 50 years?? (Maybe we have, but that seems a little high to me. Maybe 3% or 4% tops would be my guess.)

    Details?? Just curious.
  6. So, adjusted for inflation, what would $5 in 1956 dollars -- be worth today in 2005 dollars?? Any while we're at it (again, adjusted for inflation) what would $4.00 to $5.00 in 1967-69 dollars -- be worth today in 2005 dollars?? Thanks!!!
  7. Especially with Billy Harper on board. Damn, I'd kill to hear that band!!
  8. More specifically this post (same thread, third post from the top).
  9. This is good news, too. It's nice to see Charles recording again. I wonder if a BN contract is in his future, too. ← One can only hope. Isn't this the first time Tolliver's been heard on record since about 1991 or '92??
  10. Every time I see my uncle (who's about to turn 80 in a couple years), he always plays me something with Sandoval -- raving about his technique. I've never gotten what's the least bit interesting about his playing (other than the technical). Don't know that I've ever heard a solo of his that really ever did much for me, even in the slightest.
  11. I'm sure I'd never get an easy question like that if I ever got on Jeopardy. Hell, most of us here could have gotten it just from a 5 or 10 second audioclip of this...
  12. And I can't see ANY of them!!! Here's one that hopefully all of you can see...
  13. Sounds pretty darn good to me (at least this one track). Listen for yourself...
  14. Found and GOT another one!!! CLICK HERE From the auction descript... "Cover has a bit of transparent tape on top & bottom seam, VG+ to VG++ LP itself, NM-" Can't wait!! PS: Got it for $31 plus $5 shipping. The only other three or four auctions of this LP (that I've seen in a couple yeras), have all gone for $60 or more.
  15. Haven't been on a bicycle in over 10 years, BUT my new job is only about 2 miles from home. So, I got my old bike out of the basement last week -- a decent 18-speed ("Giant" brand, not a brand I'd really heard of before - bought it used in college). Probably not a bike to get all excited about - but decently solid, and will get the job done. Just had it rehabbed last week, and I am now planning on biking to work 3 or maybe 4 days a week. My first bike commute to work was just yesterday!!! Edit: Looking on-line, maybe Giant isn't a half-bad brand at all... http://www.giant-bicycle.com/us
  16. Try years. At least 3 of them, and maybe more like 4 or even 5. PS: Somebody who can run the "wayback" machine can probably prove me right. OK, that was simpler than I expected. Try as far back as 1999 - so that's something a whole lot closer to SIX years.
  17. Now THERE'S a set I'll pre-order, for sure!!! Yeah, it won't all be A+ material, but I'm dying to hear the longer takes of the things that went into "On The Corner". Bring it on!!!
  18. GREAT album. Oddly enough, Dusty often has this one in stock on CD (though they're out now). I don't think Gordon lead any other dates -- or none that I'm aware of. Here's the listing from you know where... John Gordon -- Step By Step . . . CD . . . $13.99 Strata-East (Germany), 1975 Condition: New Copy Out Of Stock: Hit the 'Send Request' button to receive an email notice if the item comes back in. One of the most obscure sessions on Strata East -- and an excellent groover that really keeps up the label's soul jazz spirit! Jon Gordon's a lesser-known trombonist from the 70s, but he's working here with an all-star group that includes Charles Tolliver on trumpet, Stanley Cowell on piano, Roland Alexander on reeds, and Andrew Cyrille on drums -- all coming together with a spirit that's quite similar to that of Tolliver's classic Music Inc recordings of the time! The titles are mostly all originals by Gordon, played in a loping, lyrical mode that often bursts out with a free-thinking approach to the solos. Titles include "P&G Incorporated", "No Tricks No Gimmicks", "Activity", "Step By Step", and "Dance Of the Ymas".
  19. Just another enthusiastic plug for Szwed's book on Miles, "So What". One of the best written jazz biographies I've ever read. Yeah, I know, know... I've read criticisms here -- probably justified (they came from people whose opinions are worth much around these parts) -- about bits and pieces of Szwed's other book: "Jazz 101 : A Complete Guide to Learning and Loving Jazz". I haven't read it yet, but I probably should pick it up sometime, and see for myself. So while I can't vouch for every single fact and opinion in "So What", it's still a damn good book, and a GREAT read. What I wouldn't give to be able to write like Szwed does.
  20. Bragging alert, bragging alert!! (don't say you weren't warned) I got my name in the Acknowledgements section of this book -- in the list of "Sun Ra cognoscenti" -- page xii (hardcover edition), 4th full paragraph, 3rd line (between "Charles Blass" and "Alan Chase"). Hey, it's my 15 nanoseconds of fame, and I'm gonna milk it for all it's worth!!! (Requisite apologies to those who've heard me toot my own horn about this in the past. At least you can't say you didn't see it comin'. )
  21. Interesting, cuz I never did get around to sending an e-mail to them about it.
  22. Haven't checked this thread head to toe, but I seem to remember we only had a link to the audio of this classic. Here's both the audio and video too... link: Johnny Carson Copper Clapper Caper Pure comedy gold.
  23. (supposedly) LEGAL REVENGE AGAINST SPAM SNAIL-MAILERS Bet you can guess what happens next!!!
