Thanks, Michael. Still currious about this date, so if anyone ever has access to this LP -- I'd love a burn sometime. Hey couw --- any chance you could photoshop those skewed pics (above) of the front and back covers into regular square images, with the perspective fixed, and the glare toned down??? No reason, really (since I don't even have a copy of the date). Just curious how easily these images could be cleaned up into something more respectable. Just curious Chuck, are you saying that only Tolliver's and Cowell's own recordings are "real" Strata East recordings? (Or, rather, Strata "productions"??) I know in the past you've discribed the label as essentially being a vehicle for various artists to have released their own recordings/productions -- that there really wasn't a Strata East "roster", as such.

If anybody goes to this, can somebody please ask Tolliver if he has any plans to take this band in the studio??? Or maybe a live recording??? Or if he'll be recording anytime soon, in any context?? Or please ask somebody in the band, if you can't get face-to-face with Charles. Been about 15 years since Tolliver's been heard on record. Too damn long!!

Allan, If I might ask you a serious question. In cases where supply is truly limited (as in the case of a particular out-of-print Mosaic, where there may have been up to as many as only 7,500 issues available in the marketplace), how would you suggest limiting the "market price" to a price you feel is more reasonable??? Let's take a hypothetical Mosaic set, with 5 discs, the original price of which was $80 ($16 per disc). Let's say five years after the set goes out of print, the average price on eBay is roughly $250 (or about $50 per disc). And let's say that prices elsewhere in the marketplace (from knowledgeable sellers) range anywhere from $200 to $300 (or $40 to $60 per disc). I'm assuming that you think that these prices are unreasonable, and not at all "fair". What steps or rules would you introduce into the system so as to limit the price to something you think would be more fair??? For example, say a maximum of $25 per disc, or a total of $125 in the case of this particular set. (I'm assuming you would think that's "more fair". Or suggest an alternate price point.) How would you fairly limit the price in the open marketplace??? Allan, I understand you find it an outrage that Mosaics (and other limited commodities) rise in price, sometimes to outrageous levels (as compared to their original prices). Translate that outrage into a proposed "real world" solution, but one that is fair to all parties --- the original copyright holder, sellers, all potential buyers, and actual buyers. Eagerly awaiting your response.

I think about 3 CD's total (SERMON!, HOUSE PARTY, and ROOT DOWN). ROOT DOWN's my favorite of the three. I'll double-check, see if I'm forgetting anything, and vote in the poll later tonight. Jimmy's great, but I'm a bigger fan of Larry Young (especially his BN material), and John Patton (especially his later material for BN).

Here's another thread with some info and discussion about BAG. Quite a few links to some articles in the thread, but many of them don't seem to work any more (the one's at Allmusic and AAJ, anyway). Perhaps the information is still available, and it's just moved somewhere else within each respective site. I'd be very curious to hear more about BAG, especially since I great up in St. Louis. Might have to check this book out.

Busted jewel-boxes bother me not one bit. Heck, half the time they get busted in the mail anyway, it seems. That's the great thing about 'em, they're easy to replace.

I wouldn't bet on a JRVG of NATURAL ESSENCE. Doesn't seem all that likely to me. My money's on us seeing it as a Conn here (hopefully with bonus tracks from The Trainwreck™), before it ever gets the JRVG treatment. Anything's possible, however, with JODY GRIND and TOTAL ECLIPSE. I'd really love to see a domestic JODY GRIND some time. The McMaster is clearly taken from an LP (or that's my memory of it -- I know it sounds pretty rough), and I'd definitely upgrade, probably the day it was released. More Woody and Tyrone!!!

Could have been. I was making dinner at the time, and had the half-time show on, on an old 7" B&W TV in the kitchen. I was in one of those "half-time show" type productions once, sort of like what the opening ceremonies from the Olympics is like (produced by the same production company too). About 4 or 5 years ago Kansas City had a huge 150th Anniversary "stadium-sized" event/concert at Arrowhead Stadium (where The Chiefs play). Among the "acts" was a huge "chorus of a thousand" that sang three songs. The Kansas City Symphony Chorus got roped into being part of this thing (hence my involvement). That, plus every high school and church choir within 100 miles, or so it seemed. We weren't miked at all, and probably 95% of what the audience heard was pre-recorded by probably 8 people in a Hollywood studio, with half-a-dozen overdubs by those same 8 (swelling the chorus of 1000 to nearly 50!!! ). Dumbest thing I've ever been involved in. We had a dress rehearsal and everything, but they didn't play the canned vocals until the actual show. What a joke!!! They did have monitors set up for the chorus, which played back everything that was pre-recorded (not just our songs). Everything that was actually performed "live" (Kenny Rogers, Huey Lewis, Oleta Adams, Little Richard, etc...), didn't get into our monitors (only the stage monitors got that), so it was easy as punch for us to tell what was pre-recorded and what wasn't. About 70% of the show was prerecorded, if I remember right.

I'm no Beatles nut (not that there's anything wrong with that), but I have to say that Sunday's was one of the best half-time shows ever. How can you go wrong with musicians playing music for a change. No lip-synch (at least not that I could tell), and no pre-recorded tracks either (again, not that I could tell).

I was just wondering if Wal*Mart had a Super Size image of this one, and they do!!! For easy comparison... ULTRA cool!!! B-) B-) B-)
