  1. I saw Herbie's last tour about 18 months ago (Colley, Carrington, and Thomas), and FWIW, I thought (musically speaking), that Carrington's playing was the weakest link in the band. Maybe she was just having an "off" night that night, but I didn't feel like she supported the music nearly as well as it needed.
  2. From what I've read here and there, the current tour includes Scott Colley and Terry Lynne Carrington. Makes sense -- Herbie's last tour was Colley, Carrington, and Gary Thomas.
  3. I went with the compilation, Tape Hiss for a Rainy Afternoon. The problem with the compilation is that you don't get the newly remastered individual CD's (Tape Hiss for a Rainy Afternoon, Tape Hiss for a Sunny Day, Tape Hiss for a Mellow Evening, etc.). You really haven't heard tape hiss until you've heard it in glorious 20-bit K2 or 24-bit sound. ...and not to mention the covers from that series that you only get with the individual discs (alas they cannot be posted in this MA14 forum) but you can almost hear the hiss of chaffing silk and chenille. I'm waiting for SACD releases of the famed tape-hiss. Damn it, what's the hold up???
  4. I'll admit I've never been to Bonnaroo, nor any other "huge" festivals. But most of the one and two-day fests I've ever been to have had side-stage acts. (Iowa City, various Kansas City festivals, and I'm pretty sure Chicago has 'em too.) Probably doesn't pay nearly as much as the "main stage" acts, but it might maybe be worth a try. (Or maybe side-stages are for "local" acts only, or people that'll play really damn cheap, just for the exposure -- or both.)
  5. "Honest officer, I swear was only going 35mph!!!" SOURCE
  6. A huge word of thanks to Ronald and Mike for all their hard work on this. Way to go!!!
  7. Bet there'd be a number of husbands that'd love to use that excuse... "I'm sorry honey, I swear I thought it was just a bar!!!!"
  8. Hmmm... I didn't hear a British accent.
  9. By the way, the Hill Select is my very first pre-order from Mosaic. Counting the days until it gets here!!!!
  10. Free For All, Free For All...
  11. I think we need a separate forum for Avant Garde Grease!!!
  12. With free shipping??? (For orders over $29, which even one Select would be well over that.)
  13. Yup, somebody start a new thread.
  14. Why wait?? It's not like Mosaic wouldn't make good on any defects. They always have in the past.
  15. In short, it means that the user's account/login was closed for some reason.
  16. Or with a small handful of unregistered users, someone died (two cases that I know of, though one is open to some question), and Jim probably closed their accounts. Just two that I can think of, or have there been more???
  17. Oh, you can pre-order it too!!! Listening to the first tune now. Haven't even read the info yet about the set yet, but I'm about to!!!!
  18. Nice review. I'm in total agreement about how much fun this record is ( ), as well as how the tunes can easily get stuck in one's head (which I think is a good thing!!). Communion is my favorite Cherry album (among many great ones), and it certainly rivals the best of Ornette's recordings from the 50's and 60's. The other thing I love about Communion is that it has enough hooks, or tunes if you will, to allow someone who's not necessarily into Free music to get (and keep) a handle on things. That, and though the tunes are memorable, they're not overly simplistic either. My wife, who isn't into Free jazz (not even one tiny bit -- she really dislikes the stuff, greatly) -- she could listen to this and admit there was structure, and definitely a sense of group interplay. One of the most "perfect" recordings I can think of, start to finish. Definitely a 5-star recording, if ever there was one.
  19. Yupper!!!! Thas the one...
  20. No. At least not to the artists who got burned.
  21. OK, I finally remembered what it was. It's the opening tune off OBLIQUE, where it's called 'Til Then. There might be one chord different, but that's the one.
  22. Just bumpin' this back up to the first page. Buggin' the hell out of me what that tune is. Thanks!!!
