  1. Me too!!
  2. Me too, on both counts. Give it another day or two, maybe even three. 4 months ago I was all worried about a package I was really anticipating -- a vintage item off eBay (not just any old commodity item). And I'd gotten a "delivered" notice, but no package -- only for it to show up 2 days later. Sometimes I wonder if an occasionally mail carrier scans the wrong thing, or else scans something as being delivered with the fully intent to deliver it the next day (so their metrics don't look bad). There are worse things in the world, so I'm not complaining. I don't think I've ever(?) lost something entirely in the mail (USPS, or UPS or FedEx either for that matter) -- but I did have a vintage necktie I'd won on eBay go missing for two months (got a full refund from the seller) -- only to have it arrive 2 months later with a note from the seller saying it had come back them them 6 weeks after they'd sent it, despite having had the exact right address on the package, which was also encoded in the automatic barcoding info that the eBay shipping documents and labels generate. She resent the thing again, and said to enjoy the tie, and not to worry about trying to pay her after all (the transaction was long since closed on eBay, and there would have been not way to repay her easily anyway). The entire transaction was a hair less than $10, so it wasn't a huge deal either way -- but I was glad I did get the tie, which was a vintage design I'd never seen before otherwise (Rooster brand, no surprise, the square-bottom ties from the 60's). This one had the logos(!) and names of about 8 different (then) contemporaneous commercial airlines, 90% of of which are long out of business now: TWA, Braniff, maybe Qantas, I forget the rest. So a VERY cool tie, that I'd never have otherwise. Anyway, give it a little more time is usually the right answer.
  3. Again, for my money, this 20-minute track is worth the price of admission alone. Anybody wanna spin it (from YouTube), and comment? Half to 3/4ths of the rest of the disc is mighty fine too, but this is the biggest highlight imho.
  4. I used to spin CD's at the bar I worked at in college in the early 90's. Couldn't spin a lot of jazz, but I played Side One of Jack Johnson ("Right Off") quite a bit, and sometimes even "Go Ahead John" from the same sessions (similar vibe).
  5. Nope, never. This'll be the first time.
  6. Have you fully recovered yet?
  7. Depends on how good the needle drop is too. Quite a bit of Sun Ra Saturn releases of late have been sourced from LP's, and the results have often been really outstanding. I paid $25 for Do Right on CD (which I sorta both regret and don't regret) -- but Roots is like 5-10x better than Do Right. So you know I'm gonna get one.
  8. This track "Submission" from Roots seems to be about the only one that's had any sort of reissue, via one or two compilations. I would say it's not unrepresentative of the rest of the album, but there is some variety to the album too (it's not all just like this). Here's "Spiritual Light Of The Universe"... But those seem to be the only two tracks currently up on YouTube at the moment.
  9. I’ve had this on LP for a decade, and had a burn of it for a good five years before that. Always said I’d get this on CD in a heartbeat, and I most definitely will!! — I just never dreamed I’d ever actually get the chance to actually get it on cd. It’s a FINE album. Anybody who likes anything Tyrone ever recorded elsewhere (in any context), will surely find a LOT to like in Roots. IMHO.
  10. Well, oh my gosh golly!!! https://www.dustygroove.com/item/113530
  11. Quick bump to mention that I see this disc available at Dusty Groove again (and still really cheap). Clocks in at like 79 minutes too, iirc. https://www.dustygroove.com/item/634774
  12. Scroll down a little. Can anyone be trusted who (plurality) refers to… LIMITED EDITION VINYLS ??!!!
  13. The only one I have (so far), is the Joe Henderson double-disc — the only one I’ve heard too — and it’s been growing on me. The arrangements are pretty inventive, and may take a few spins to work their magic, but the magic is there.
  14. I could probably use something like this myself. Even at the age of 53, I barely know anything about stereo systems — and I have to confess I’ve never owned a stereo system in my life, that wasn’t either an integrated system, like a bookshelf system — or a basic (cheap) component system that was purchased as a pre-matched set of components. I haven’t the foggiest notion of what works with what, or what to watch out for in terms of matching components with each other, or with various sizes/kinds of speakers, etc.
  15. Ok, so that’s kinda crazy, and kinda amazing too! Check out all the details in the description of that YouTube video — from Discogs, and the Atlantic discography… https://youtube.com/watch?v=0WNp9ZZoaBs On my phone, or I’d cut-n-paste it all over here. What an interesting idea for a concept record — and by none other than King Curtis. That’s wild!
  16. Yeah. Chuck was right, more like Urkel.
  17. That’s how I first became aware of Sidran, back in my college days. Not really sure I’d ever heard his name before that. Come to think, I can’t swear if I’ve even seen one album of his while CD shopping — though I’ve seen a few here and there in the LP bins (but most of my buying focus as always been CD’s, at least since I’d gotten into jazz). Didn’t he close his interview with Miles asking about “Nardis” and his own name?
  18. Gave Disc 1 a spin today. SQ issues be damned, there is some really fine music on these very earliest trio recordings with Billy Bauer. You sort of have to sonically fill in (imagine) what can’t quite be heard, but there’s plenty enough ‘signal’ to do so, imho. And I’m not otherwise used to hearing lots of historic recordings from this era or earlier (those of you who know my biases for jazz from the 60’s and later, and not much before the mid-50’s). But there is so much going on in the interplay of Tristano and Bauer, at least on some cuts. Anyone else revisiting this set again, and any further thoughts?
  19. In My Own Sweet Way is actually LIVE, but it's so incredibly well recorded -- you can be forgiven for not realizing and/or remembering. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/In_My_Own_Sweet_Way And it's a BRILLIANT album too -- probably the single best thing Woody did after his run at Columbia (and equally as good as much of that Columbia run too) -- highest possible recommendation. The trio behind him was a pickup group too, but they play like they'd been a unit for a few years (or at least some of the backing back was new to Woody that night iirc, or pretty close to it -- or one of the members was a last-minute sub, I forget the details). Fantastic album!!
  20. Far as I know, it’s only ever been recorded three times. I highly recommend Neeme Järvi and the Detroit Symphony from 1992 — which has been reissued in at least 2 other forms (same recording, but paired with different works each time, often with Still and/or Ellington), and there was also a budget record-club CDreissue of the exact same recording (with a cheap looking B&W cover). On my phone, or I’d say more. It’s on YouTube a few times too — and I’m not sure if any of those uploads are perhaps of an otherwise 4th version that’s unknown to me.
  21. Nice!! Just seeing that the entirety of Side 1 is just Sal and Warne as a duo. Here's the whole thing. I'm not too far into the first track, but this is great!
  22. Can anyone come up with any realistic, plausible ideas how this hasn't been issued officially?? I'm about the least knowledgeable person here about the Coltrane catalog -- beyond having a fairly “half-way ok” awareness of most of his Impulse, Atlantic, and Prestige output (but I only own about 20% of it, at most -- and I've only barely scratched the surface of the Impulse stuff, beyond streaming stuff here and there). But I'm listening to the YouTube clip above, and this is mighty interesting (if not quite my thing), and the sound-quality isn't terrible at all (even if the piano is under-recorded). Rights issues? Who would own the tapes? Who would have right to reissue it? Surely this would fall squarely under Trane's contract time-period for Impulse, so as I understand it, it's theirs in terms of who CAN release it -- or they certainly have right-of-first-refusal, though I'm pretty sure that's NOT quite how it works, I realize. But nobody ain't doin' shit with this (legit), unless whoever owns Impulse says OK, am I right? Would the family be blocking it? It just doesn't make any sense how this is still in the can.
