  1. Is this the first Mosaic set Scott (Wenzel) has produced? (Forgive me if I'm overlooking any of his prior production credits.)
  2. I’ve seen this disc come up a time or two on Dusty, but I’ve been to slow to pull the trigger on it each time. How’s it compare to the whole Black Dahlia suite thing?? — which I assume(?) could be its closest cousin, in terms of other releases with Bob’s name on the spine. I often quite like Black Dahlia, but sometimes I’m a little lukewarm on it too — seems to vary from year to year (I’ve almost gotten ridden of the disc a couple times, but always seem to come around to keeping it).
  3. Yup! If they did that with more (or all) of their sets, I would have probably preordered a LOT more over the years — but I realize the economies of every set are different (especially based on the size of the set) — and I’m not complaining, I swear!
  4. Do you have the Bee Hive box? (I think it’s the only label-retrospective of theirs that I have)
  5. So, wait, Annette Peacock already had the last name “Peacock” before she married Gary?? (Am I the only one that’s confused here?)
  6. I didn’t know Paul Bley was Karen Mantler’s other father then. Interesting.
  7. Peace Treaty is a really nice date — and iirc, the two bonus tracks are good too (even sans Woody), and a nice inclusion. There’s no one ‘iconic’ standout track, but it all hangs together nicely.
  8. I had the very same thought.
  9. Holy cow, that’s a square-bottom tie!! That’s probably a Rooster brand tie!!! I *love* finding photos like this out in the wild. This is great!!!
  10. I wear and have worn a tie practically every single day I’ve been at work (at the Museum I’ve worked for since 2013, and also in a desk IT-related job I had from 1994-2003). Here in DC, I used to be the assistant to the executive director of a major DC museum for ~7 years (immediately pre-pandemic) — and now I work in the Museum Shop (where I deal with the public 90% of my day, every day, same museum). As many of you might remember, I have this huge collection of 100+ vintage narrow square-bottom ties from the 60’s — mostly Rooster brand (plus a few others). I’m not “Rooster_Ties” here just for nothin’ — and also on the Steve Hoffman Forums, on Reddit, and a few other places. Hell, I think that was my userid on the old BNBB, come to think of it. And let me tell you, it’s 100x easier and simpler for me to not otherwise look like a schlub, simply by wearing a tie every day. When I was upstairs (in Administration), it was always with slacks. Now it’s with jeans (incl. a few “non-blue” jeans, i.e black jeans, grey, brown, etc). It’s (the ties)… well, they’re my thing. My work wardrobe is infinitely easier to not have to think about (not at all, really), with that big collection of interesting vintage neckties to choose from. Without them, I would have zero sense of style. And while I’m still not always the most stylish person in the Shop, at least I always look a million times less generic (and more importantly, less like a schlub). Note: I’m NOT saying people who don’t wear ties look like schlubs. Just that *I* do.
  11. Like that cover. Kind of an atypical shot, angle, and cropping. Really highlights the ‘pipe-work’ neck of the bari, which — absent the rest of the horn — is even more atypical than usual. Not an instant purchase for me, but if the reports are good, I might spring for the CD’s.
  12. I would ask if we could find a source other than Breitbart… …but I suspect this entire topic (now) probably can’t be discussed without getting into partisan politics, regardless of the source of the story. I certainly have opinions, but I don’t even know how to start without violating the rules of our good host… and I most certainly don’t want to do that. I used to miss the politics forum around here, but over time I’ve come to appreciate the near complete absence of politics around these parts… and appreciate our host’s rules on this matter.
  13. It’s not of a sound quality worth releasing, but somewhere I have an audience recording (from a performance at some museum, iirc)… …of Geri and Wallace (just the two of them, as a duo) playing all or most of the entire Birth of the Cool album/songbook. It’s VERY free at times too, very exploratory. All the themes are referenced, but it’s anything but a conservative reading. If only there was a good recording of that, it would be kind of revelatory. Anyone else heard what I’m talking about?
  14. Me too!!
  15. Me too, on both counts. Give it another day or two, maybe even three. 4 months ago I was all worried about a package I was really anticipating -- a vintage item off eBay (not just any old commodity item). And I'd gotten a "delivered" notice, but no package -- only for it to show up 2 days later. Sometimes I wonder if an occasionally mail carrier scans the wrong thing, or else scans something as being delivered with the fully intent to deliver it the next day (so their metrics don't look bad). There are worse things in the world, so I'm not complaining. I don't think I've ever(?) lost something entirely in the mail (USPS, or UPS or FedEx either for that matter) -- but I did have a vintage necktie I'd won on eBay go missing for two months (got a full refund from the seller) -- only to have it arrive 2 months later with a note from the seller saying it had come back them them 6 weeks after they'd sent it, despite having had the exact right address on the package, which was also encoded in the automatic barcoding info that the eBay shipping documents and labels generate. She resent the thing again, and said to enjoy the tie, and not to worry about trying to pay her after all (the transaction was long since closed on eBay, and there would have been not way to repay her easily anyway). The entire transaction was a hair less than $10, so it wasn't a huge deal either way -- but I was glad I did get the tie, which was a vintage design I'd never seen before otherwise (Rooster brand, no surprise, the square-bottom ties from the 60's). This one had the logos(!) and names of about 8 different (then) contemporaneous commercial airlines, 90% of of which are long out of business now: TWA, Braniff, maybe Qantas, I forget the rest. So a VERY cool tie, that I'd never have otherwise. Anyway, give it a little more time is usually the right answer.
  16. Again, for my money, this 20-minute track is worth the price of admission alone. Anybody wanna spin it (from YouTube), and comment? Half to 3/4ths of the rest of the disc is mighty fine too, but this is the biggest highlight imho.
  17. I used to spin CD's at the bar I worked at in college in the early 90's. Couldn't spin a lot of jazz, but I played Side One of Jack Johnson ("Right Off") quite a bit, and sometimes even "Go Ahead John" from the same sessions (similar vibe).
  18. Nope, never. This'll be the first time.
  19. Have you fully recovered yet?
  20. Depends on how good the needle drop is too. Quite a bit of Sun Ra Saturn releases of late have been sourced from LP's, and the results have often been really outstanding. I paid $25 for Do Right on CD (which I sorta both regret and don't regret) -- but Roots is like 5-10x better than Do Right. So you know I'm gonna get one.
  21. This track "Submission" from Roots seems to be about the only one that's had any sort of reissue, via one or two compilations. I would say it's not unrepresentative of the rest of the album, but there is some variety to the album too (it's not all just like this). Here's "Spiritual Light Of The Universe"... But those seem to be the only two tracks currently up on YouTube at the moment.
  22. I’ve had this on LP for a decade, and had a burn of it for a good five years before that. Always said I’d get this on CD in a heartbeat, and I most definitely will!! — I just never dreamed I’d ever actually get the chance to actually get it on cd. It’s a FINE album. Anybody who likes anything Tyrone ever recorded elsewhere (in any context), will surely find a LOT to like in Roots. IMHO.
  23. Well, oh my gosh golly!!! https://www.dustygroove.com/item/113530
  24. Quick bump to mention that I see this disc available at Dusty Groove again (and still really cheap). Clocks in at like 79 minutes too, iirc. https://www.dustygroove.com/item/634774
