  1. Thanks for posting. I remember Chevrier as a good no-nonsense broadcaster. I remember him calling CFL games for CTV in the 1970s. CTV's broadcaster roster was pretty thin compared to CBC in those days, but you never noticed a drop in quality when Chevrier was calling a game.
  2. I'm going to be sick.
  3. Tony Williams' Life Time was RVGed.
  4. I remember Isis and Shazam. Didn't think much of the latter. Compared to the Six Million Dollar Man (theme music by Oliver Nelson), Bionic Woman, Wonder Woman and the Incredible Hulk, it was pretty thin stuff, but a mildy enjoyable diversion while munching cereal.
  5. Doesn't mean they didn't try... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yf2kbBinvI4 Note the word "Geritol" above the band. There's something oddly fascinating about Welk. Beyond square.
  6. Anthony Braxton.
  7. If Jesus is the reason for the season, throw on Charles Gayle's 50-minute "Jesus Christ and Scripture."
  8. Neo-con jazz isn't either judging by the absence of the Marsallis crowd.
  9. Kind of like asking if rock has a future and listing Olivia Newton-John and Chris DeBurgh as modern day rock artists. Pointless. Sample qestion: 6) Which of these modern day jazz artists do you feel are the future sound of jazz? Jamie Cullum Michael Buble Liane Carroll The Bad Plus E.S.T Diana Krall Madeleine Peyroux Polar Bear James Taylor Stacey Kent Ian Shaw Clare Teal Dave Koz Jeff Kashiwa David Sanborn Peter White Bob James Jeff Lorber
  10. Once you strip away the pompous language, the New York Times is an empty read.
  11. Count Basie, early minimalist. Who knew?
  12. Compulsion and The Jewel and The Lotus were big faves, too.
  13. It's a great place. I'm grateful to this board to introducing me to Big John Patton. Thanks Jim and co.
  14. I wonder when they'll remake this starring Will Smith...
  15. Big John Patton Mosaic Select and Got a Good Thing Going Kenny Dorham's Matador/Inta Somethin Carpathian Forest Fuck You All
  16. Gaslini and Braxton did an album together in the early 1980s. Gaslini was intrigued by Braxton's title for "Comp. 101," so he drew his own design for the album. I've only heard Ayler's Wings and Skies of Europe with Italian Instabile Orchestra, but keep meaning to hear more.
  17. They're probably not big sellers and Jazzloft is clearing inventory.
  18. Philip Larkin would have been proud.
  19. That's apparently an error. "Black Satin" was made at the following session with Creamer, Garnett, et al.
  20. Due to the complete lack of information in the set, that's one of many unanswered questions. I think the into/ending may be longer, but don't have it front of me right now. Also, maybe I'm not as on the ball these days having a newborn at home, but I'm having a hard time finding the connection between the "One and One" unedited master and the released version.
  21. Sad news. A very adventurous figure. I wish it was easier to buy his CDs, instead of the current 'send a money order and we'll send your CDs on the next milk truck' system.
  22. Leo has also put out Volume 4 of the Yoshi's Ninetet.
  23. I know, but I'm on a budget.
  24. I've really been appreciating Kenny's work recently. What should I get next: 2 Horns, 2 Rhythm or Blue Spring?
