  1. But how did the google car fit in there? And are these the final pictures taken by a camera in front if the car, whilst in back, it tore down everything? Seriously, looks like a good place to check out ... wonder if I deserve the bastardly honour of being their best swiss customer?
  2. that was my first thought reading the thread title ... but then I'm sure computer knows better what I really am.
  3. That Newport album was on CD, in Verve's LPR series, 2002 (mini LP, I think it was around a bit later as a digipack, too): http://www.discogs.com/Gigi-Gryce-Donald-Byrd-Jazz-LaboratoryAnd-Cecil-Taylor-Quartet-At-Newport/release/3538739 It's still around in Europe, for instance here: http://www.amazon.de/At-Newport-Gigi-Gryce/dp/B00006FR6G/ There's also a CD-R on demand edition, but I'd trust the above link to be the actual CD.
  4. be careful, free ringtones might be devices that listen to you whenever they're not ringing ... or some such I made my own, fiddling around with some filters and stuff (using some funk tracks .... I also made one using the opening of Ayler's "Ghosts")
  5. me too - definitely the one of the bunch that's really interesting! ... but I'd like to have some more info first.
  6. about to end disc 3 now, on to disc 4 - good stuff!
  7. Happy Birthday!
  8. Interesting stuff in there, for sure! I have plenty (but nowhere near to all) of the works the set contains, but almost none of the specific recordings ... Hogwood overkill, maybe? A few more Archiv sets coming up ... they call 'em "Archiv Archives", it seems, four disc sets: GREGORIAN CHANT, THE OFFICE · THE MASS · VARIA Chor der Mönche der Erzabtei Beuron Maurus Pfaff http://www.deutschegrammophon.com/en/cat/4792593 MUSIC FOR LUTE Walter Gerwig http://www.deutschegrammophon.com/en/cat/4792598 MUSIC FOR VIOLA DA GAMBA Schola Cantorum Basiliensis August Wenzinger http://www.deutschegrammophon.com/en/cat/4792603 Here you can get an idea of the looks of these: http://www.amazon.fr/Music-Viola-Da-August-Wenzinger/dp/B00HZ8J402/ I'm not interested, I think ... guess the one big Archiv sucker covers all (and then some) of what older Archiv recordings I need.
  9. just getting started ... will play discs one and two at least
  10. a few upcoming ICONs: Then there's also this here: can't find any info yet
  11. The version that was/is in circulation has Jimmy Schenk as well, no idea where the info comes from, I don't think I've ever heard any radio announcements coming with it ... (and that version surely is the only source these bootleggers have access to). These releases suck big time ... I mean I love dime and it's rules are good in my book - the downside is there's no way to keep the bootleggers out - there have been plenty of releases by the likes or RLR, Gambit et al. taken straight from sets presented on dime. Economically, releasing these boots works, I guess, because no one other than the manufacturer needs to get paid anything ... but dammit, I really loathe these releases!
  12. discs 3-5 - the Spotlight recordings plus three studio albums, one in trio and two with Joe Kennedy (quintet w/Ray Crawford and orchestra) those Spotlight recordings were the first Jamal I ever heard (on the old GRP CD "Ahmad's Blues") and for quite a long time the only I had - but it got played *very* often :tup
  13. I'd disagree there ... the Herman is full to the brim with brilliant arrangements and mighty fine playing. Your mileage may vary, of course, as they say - but to me, this is a fantastic band and a great set (mighty fine liner notes with insightful comments on the music, too).
  14. Very weird indeed! About jazzmessengers having stuff listed v. having it in stock - I think they're *very* fast with deleting things from the website that have sold out, or in marking them as "currently not in stock" or something. I never had any part of an order cancelled because it wasn't in stock and I actually saw stuff disappear when I ordered it (another time the same when a friend ordered it - gone from the site after a few minutes).
  15. probably going straight through it, skipping "Four Orchestras" and "Two Pianos" (both of which I've not yet played)
  16. played the Dizzy right through ... excellent stuff mostly!
  17. Finally got started with this one last night ... wasn't even aware yet Kenny Washington was involved - love his liner notes and insights! Played discs one and two last night, disc two in all its glory again today. Now on to this: starting where Leo Wright joins (mid of disc 3) and going to at least the Antibes concert on disc 5, maybe more ...
  18. How many musicians actually do listen to their own records? Makes a certain amount of sense to me. Trane knew Heath from his Philly days, and Heath was among the first tenors (Bill Barron being another) to really understand Trane's music. Oh, and Miles had recorded with Jimmy and Percy Heath at his April 20, 1953 session for Blue Note ("C.T.A."). Didn't Miles plan to get Heath sometime later again ... around the time he then signed Mobley? Heath was out on parole and not allowed to travel, so he couldn't take the gig - that's how I remember the story.
  19. Not sure about all of this ... on the label site it says if you order, make sure to list alternatives as "currently" many titles are out of stock ... http://www.redrecords.it/item.aspx?id=317&tipo=releases&Lang=ENG as far as shipping costs go, the info is only in the Italian language version of the above page:
  20. Oh yes, don't miss the Crusaders! (Can't say anything on the Hutcherson, it's in the pile here...)
  21. Happy Birthday!
  22. Nice one! Sounds very much like 90s acid jazz of the better sort, too ... but then obviously acid jazz was nothing new under the sun anyways.
