Ignorant question, apologies: which ones would those be? And was the Heavyweight box all in stereo?
-
often just 4.15€ at amazon.it, where I bought about two dozen ... and indeed "Made in EU" - but there's a lot more available in the Japanese batches (though I'm not sure all the wannabees are part of the Japanese reissue series, I lose overview of all these too quickly!)

No newsletter announcing this? I just wanted to sign up (again) but was told I'm still signed up, so ... any idea how long the sale will go on? I'd love to order a bunch of things (including that Tamarindo trio disc!), but my end of Feb. budget will mostly go to Mosaic ...

Great news!

Anyone familiar with the Rita Reys and John Lewis albums?
-
Will the Barneys contain the bonus tracks? From the above list, it seems no ... which is a darn crime against music lovers!

Okay, thanks!

Happy Birthday, John! -
Belated best wishes, Hans!

(the pic is the cover of the 4CD edition of the Gershwin songbook - just the edition to go for, if you want the album - skip the various euro-crap PD ones!)

bump ...let me ask again: are we talking Warner Japan only? Or have those Euro-Wannabe-Makebelieve-Japanese reissues appeared recently as proper Japanases reissues and the remasterings used are identical?

Happy Birthday, Mike! Thanks so much for all the music you inspired me to check out!

Name some Blue Note cds you find overrated

"Doin' Alright" and "Our Man in Paris" are my favorites ... took me longer to warm to "Go" and "A Swingin' Affair", Sonny Clark notwithstanding ... but I enjoy them all! -

charmingly ragged indeed! how 'bout Griffin? I still love "The Congregation" more than almost any other of his albums, even if that's mainly because of the title tune, which is my favourite Griffin tune ever ... also played "Am I Blue" again and again and again in the years passed since this thread was up, and it grew pretty dear to me -
You ought to get the Fischer! (And I ought to get the Steig ...)

Agreed! There are three generations of these .... or of most of these. first (double and quadruple discs, most of them long gone): second (digipacks, all single discs): third (jewel cases in pairs in filmsy cardboard, sometimes sold as singles in the second hand markets or sales bins): the silliest bit were the SACDs of the third gen, usually pulling together material from a double disc set onto a single SACD, thus omitting plenty of good stuff (I had the Mulligan one and was pissed to find out there was a 2CD set, which of course I had to get as well): not sure how exactly this works out with Blakey .... I've got two of the third generation's double sets (first and second concerts) and the tracklists given on amazon.fr don't seem to match up (I'd assume "Part 3" being disc 1 on of the second double disc, but if those tracklists are correct, that's not the case at all).

I picked this one up also and was really surprised by how much i've enjoyed it. I think i know what you mean by the 'squareness' of Lewis's piano and it not being a bad thing... it sounds quite hip to me. My self imposed perceptions of Lewis and the MJQ continue to change. Sound wise the Lewis sounds good to me, however i picked up a couple of Art Farmers which are basically unlistenable for me, which is saying something as i'm normally not that fussy. That's a delightful album indeed! But, this and a few others discussed in Late's post made me wonder, too ... are we talking of Japanese Warners or of the European ones that look like Japanese but aren't? My Lewis is among the later, so is the Clarke/Boland, so are all the Lloyds ... and more Lewis, Bags, and others ... they go for 4-5 € on amazon.it). btw, never was hip to the track mix-up (deletion?) on the Tristano ... happy owner of the Mosaic set (was my very first) and happy with that in all respects ...

Herbie Hancock on Miles Davis

not sure what the original looked like, the CD I've got is more reddish, but: -
Just bought this ... sealed, but there was no booklet in it, so I lack all info ... could any kind soul let me know if in the first place there should have been one? And if anyone can help me out (w/photocopies, a scan, a handy snapshot, whatever), please get in touch privately, would be most appreciated! I don't feel like going through the hassle of trying to return it and get a replacement. Too much sh*t lately with amazon ... Edited to add: I think I can gather the info (line-ups etc) myself, discogs has some of it already ... but still, some scans would be cool!)

Kyoto you mean? The one from the day after the officially released concert? That's an AUD, while the one from two days before (Tokyo as well) is an SBD (I assume so is the one on Columbia/Sony). http://plosin.com/milesahead/Sessions.aspx?d=6

Yes, that's just what I meant - thought it was actual Decca material, not Philips, but that's obviously wrong (I've not heard much Richter besides the EMI material).
-
Guess it's easily recommended. I bought the EMI box and after some reading added four of the Böhm ones that are now around in that new box (which I will hence skip, one more Böhm on the shopping list though ... and obviously had to get a few Decca ones, too, most important the Solti "Salome" which is terrific). Will have plenty of Strauss around when I'm ready, but so far I've not played that much of it, mostly just "Salome" really. All the solo piano pieces on the DG set are also included in the Decca 33CD-set. The remaining pieces on the DG set are piano concertos: • Mozart Concerto No.20 with Stanisław Wislocki/Warsaw National Philharmonic Orchestra • Prokofiev Concerto No.5 with Witold Rowicki/Warsaw National Philharmonic Orchestra • Rachmaninov Concerto No.2 with Stanisław Wislocki/Warsaw National Philharmonic Orchestra • Schumann Concerto with Witold Rowicki/Warsaw National Philharmonic Orchestra • Tchaikovsky Concerto No.1 with Herbert von Karajan/Vienna Symphonic Orchestra (no, not the Vienna Philharmonic) • Beethoven Concerto No.3 with Kurt Sanderling/Vienna Symphonic Orchestra • Beethoven Rondo for Piano and Orchestra with Kurt Sanderling/Vienna Symphonic Orchestra Thanks! I wasn't aware the solo material was duplicated between the DG and the Decca box ... so the Decca box is actually a Universal box ... one more coming up shortly: Philippe Entremont: The Complete Piano Concerto Recordings (Sony, 19 CD) pre-order possible so far @ amazon.co.uk (23 £) or amazon.de (40 €)

some great Dexter there, all new to me - thanks!
