  1. Sheep and Booby really ought to do a duo rekkid! Too bad Booger's dead or else he ought to have joined!
  2. Me, too! And I want that second copy of Ramifications NOW
  3. Jim, I think it was mentioned somewhere that this version of the Rockland material was corrected: Complete Legendary Rockland Palace Dance Date 1952 (Jazz Classics Records CD-JZCL-5014, rel. 1996) On the back of the tray, it claims: "ALL performances are here with CORRECTLY issued for the ffirst time, running at proper pitch & correct key." Liners are by Doug Pomeroy (and I here with testify having bought it from amazon.com on February 1, 2004). Btw, to me, it's mainly the non-Bird material that makes this box such an attractive offer. I've not yet entered the zone where I can identify Bird boots and say "I've got that date on this release" and am far from having sorted all of it out (and even farther from actually knowing for real all the live Bird I've got on various releases).
  4. 15$ and DL only? Too bad, I'd sure love a real CD... again: who's playing besides Warren?
  5. Happy Birthday!
  6. Or a good Uptown, maybe? Indeed! And more likely/fitting, too... but not sure it would all fit onto 2CDs.
  7. Okay, let's play then... hope everyone could handle the DL - drop me a PM if you still want to join in or if you've got any problems! Hope you'll enjoy the music, looking forward to your comments!
  8. "Stealin' Apples" is on the Dameron/Navarro 2CD set. What I'd love to see is a complete edition of all the Tadd airchecks, no matter if Fats on them or not! Would make a wonderful Mosaic Select, I bet...
  9. See #41 - not sure if the Collectables disc is that bad...
  10. Will share the link shortly... any additional takers?
  11. Well, chitterlings/chitlin being a kind of iconic soul food, popular with southern as well as northern urban black people, the name was attached to bookings at southern black venues as well as northern ghetto venues, places that would normally have an all or mostly black audience. I see! Thought I'd read something going in that direction already, but wasn't sure any more...
  12. I almost ate chitterlings after what, 15 years? again this week... but as I'd had liver the night before I thought that was enough for a while. How do chitterlings relate to the chitlin circuit?
  13. Great album. I have the 1994 hatART CD issue. Same here... and hence (as in several other cases - Dark Tree, Konitz/Solal, Annette, VAO Satie) I'd wish for less reissues of (fairly recent) (re-)issues... though I'd love the Braxton Willisau to turn up again! The Lyons though, is truly great!
  14. Okay, I contributed - and now I want to put forth my conditions for having done so, alright? - have Wynton contribute a kazoo solo on Ya-Da - include a hidden track featuring Kenny G. in duet with Lester Young - feature Bill Clinton on a polka cover of Rabih Abou-Khalil's tune "Lewinsky March" Have fun! And good luck with this project!
  15. Will keep trying, Allen! Good luck with this! Saw your Blues box in a store here in Zurich today, btw! But first I got to order your own last release!
  16. struggling to contribute... site won't properly load when I hit paypal... should be easier to send cash but then who guarantees it's not used on medication that won't be taken?
  17. I bet it's a new old Wayne tune
  18. One of those Lester Young Story volumes? The Smith/Jones is also on the Band #1 box (minus the alternate, I think). Haven't compared but that one sounds very good to me, too.
  19. dimly remember reading about someone trying to reissue that one and not getting past either wadud or phillips who was against a reissue for some reason or other... (Ubu?) (clips on youtube sound pretty great to me though... on page 60 here is more on this band Would have to look it up but yes, there were attempts... maybe multiple ones. Thought it was Mumin (Phillips), while Wadud's whereabouts remain mysterious... also I think the album - while certainly being some kind of underground classic - doesn't live up to Jonathan's expectations.
  20. A copmlete edition of the Bimhuis material would be wonderful! Would be a 3CD set, I assume... or could it be squeezed (squozen?) onto two? I've not heard the final encore, and it seems the Circle LPs had the sets jumbled around or something (and the two encores only appeared on LPs by various artists). "Paragon" is a wonderful album, in my opinion. Got the LP and a friend made me a CDR-dub (which I've not even listened to yet... got to do that soon). That's a fine suggestion for a single Rivers album, I think (but I don't nearly know all of his seventies albums, I think).
  21. Saw Irene Schweizer performing solo last night. Short set (ca. 45 min) as part of the surroundings of an exhibition dedicated to the part of Zurich she chose to live in several decades ago... first time to hear her solo in person (I've heard her in duos with Françoise Kubler and Pierre Favre, as well as accompanying a film in solo, but that's not exactly a solo concert, although it was a great experience, too!). Anyway, it's amazing how broad her range is... there's all in it, all music, virtually. You hear glimpses of Monk, Nichols, Weston, but all turned into her own very much so... she'd use one of Dollar Brand's trademark left-hand-vamps (in five) and add some stuff all her own to it, dropping in and out of the ostinato as she pleased, she'd wail some blues, and do some Monk tunes clearly recognizable yet thoroughly reworked, both harmonically and melodically... very, very good, needless to say! Also picked up her latest release on Intakt, "To Whom It May Concern", the live recording from Zurich's sacred temple of classical music (the Tonhalle), where she played in April 2011 to celebrate her 70th birthday. She's really a treasure of this town, of this country, and - hell! - of mankind! Cool! They were *very* good in Cologne in November! Went to shake hands with Taborn afterwards and he nearly wouldn't let me go again... very nice guy off stage, too!
  22. Booby?
  23. The Lieb/Beirach is very good in my opinion! A very positive surprise. Did it go straight to "last chance"?
  24. Uhm, a Lacy RCA set I meant to say...
