  1. Don't you have any photos allowing you to blackmail him to take you with him... Allen Lowe feat. Marc Ribot - Really the Blues (bare bottom spanking included in price of admission)
  2. Jazzland http://www.jazzland.at/e_index.htm great club, you can eat before the concert, too - spent a great night there listening to Sheila Jordan with the Fritz Pauer trio, doing two sets and a short third, after which I chatted with Ms Jordan for a second Porgy & Bess http://www.porgy.at/e-index.html more high-brow, I guess (wasn't there though) Joe Zawinul's Birdland seems to have closed... didn't take note of that before. Where the Porgy's is, there's also a small CD shop, Rote Laterne, where org-member soulpope was working back when I was in Vienna (July 2007, ages ago... Red Octopus was still open, the second volume of Erich Kleinschuster's 2CD set was out right when I was there).
  3. The complete Bimhuis Rivers Tuba Trio material might be a swell thing, indeed!
  4. Happy Birthday, Conrad!
  5. Had no time yet to check, but ripping both versions onto the hard disk would make it fairly easy to find out. Also, apologies for the crappy English and typos in the above post - was changing around sentences once too many and didn't double check before posting.
  6. ooops, I only now read the title... "our entire catalogue"... gee, this is tempting!
  7. I haven't seen it either. I thought doing this kindle thing would allow for full-text searching?
  8. sheee-it, this is expensive... but tempting, nevertheless! would be cool though to know just a little bit more about its contents *before* committing oneself! will this contain the complete (plus bonus) recorded works of ICP and related projects?
  9. Not facebook, the one in post #42!
  10. The poll linked to above gives me: DL: 4 4CD: 6 6CD: 52
  11. Checking that link more closely and comparing with my CDs - it seems all of the tracks from the first two sessions that according to the link only found on the Mosaic, are on "Air" (Candid CCD79046) - except for take 5 of "Air", which remains exclusive to the Mosaic set, if I'm correct. That, again according to the site linked above, is just a labelling error - take 5 was a false start, the track labelled take 5 on CCD97034 ("Cell Walk for Celeste") and is identical to take 6 (hence either CCD97034 has takes 4 and 6, and the later is also on CCD79013, "Jumpin' Punkins"). So that leaves one cut ("Air" take 5, from Oct 12) missing from, and one track ("Jumpink Punkins" take 6, once mis-labelled as take 5) duplicated on the Candid CDs.
  12. Best way to find that one is on the French 'America' label LP release - which is how I got my copy. An original on the Charles Mingus label though would be a pretty mythical beast, I suspect. Or look for Prestige P-24092 - Portrait, a 2LP that also includes Town Hall Concert and has liner notes by Jaki Byard. Thanks, wasn't even awre of these reissues!
  13. Latently blatant? Or blaringly so?
  14. to some these cataracts can get quite... orgasmic - but wait, that's not my mom! get well soon, Chuck!
  15. What's that, her year of birth? She kinda looks like a cyborg anyway
  16. Huh? Will the wife drive you there then, once you've hopped in?
  17. Best way to find that one is on the French 'America' label LP release - which is how I got my copy. An original on the Charles Mingus label though would be a pretty mythical beast, I suspect. I've once spotted one in Paris (but it wasn't for sale) Will have to look for this in case it really won't be included (which, with all due respect, would be a silly call in my opinion).
  18. Those DL certificates rarely work for me... What I'd be most interested to know though: is "My Favorite Quintet", the LP itself, planned to be included? Never, ever, saw that one around - it's one of the Mingus LPs I've never heard (I think the only official one besides the late Hampton date).
  19. not sure if this is 100% correct (please let me know about goofs and mistakes!) - but I put this together many years ago:Mingus Candid.doc Taylor is somewhat more messy/complicated as there's multiple takes and the Candid discs don't always give take numbers. I gave up sorting that out, but this here should answer most questions: http://bb10k.com/Cecil_Taylor/CTcandid.html

I'm spinning it again... it has a nice after hours, bluesy feel to it. Very lose. And Al Levitt's rather special, too... 'course he was on half of Wilen's debut, "Tilt", already... would have enjoyed some more room for Gourley, too - a bit less "Night in Tunisia"-riffin', but hey, it's good fun! I can see this one slowly growing on me!
  22. Also style wins over substance... or as Mr. Sangrey put it: their presentation suggests much more substance than there really is. Not that I know this very release, but I've seen some of them (and bought a couple, too... the Quincy and Mingus Birdland ones were just too good to pass - the Quincy makes a big mess of the liners, though, not quoting and unquoting properly). Anyway, the individual Candid discs seem to be in print, so there's no need for this crappy set.
  23. Bumping this thread up... just gave the recent Impulse 2-on-1 twofer a first spin and enjoyed it! Enjoyed reading this thread, too - thanks for the ride, guys! Got to dig out the Kahn book and read the pages on the album again.

Got my disc today, gave it a first spin - nice one. Nothing too big though... it's a bit on the short side (36 or so minutes) and sounds like a lose jam over large parts. But hey, more Barney is a good thing!
