  1. To be honest, these don't look overwhelming to me... several seem to be very short, too.
  2. No tengo dinero pero no quiero estos RVG... maybe upgrade the Art Taylor? The Jackie Mac has been out pretty recently, no need to upgrade that. The others I all have as part of box sets (Mosaics and the Complete BN Dex).
  3. Just putting a link in here to a rare 4LP set by Solal discussed in the Daniel Humair thread.
  4. Try here! Got one of the "last copies" (missing outer box and no packaging for disc two) from a group-member, used. Very nice! Have only heard some bit here and there, though. Would anyone who has the regular cardboard package for disc two be so kind and provide me with some scans? I'd appreciate that highly!
  5. I don't know any of these discs, but here's a good word for the Mingus Big Band. They're definitely worth catching live. I heard live broadcasts over the last 10 years and saw them in person once (the late John Stubblefield was still with them but died a few months later). Always plenty of fire and great solo players, too. The band is really soaked by Mingus' spirit, and if Sue talks a minute at the beginning, it isn't all that bad - you forget her the second the band starts playing!
  6. That's the way I chose to go, too... the 24 CD Centennial box, the 2CD Okeh, the 3CD RCA/Brunswick, then (stoopid me, just when the latest Mosaic was announced..) the 2 volumes (2CD each) of Small Group sessions on Columbia/Legacy (not remastered/old remasters, like the Okeh, in case it matters). I still wonder: how much of the 40CD set does one miss this way. Or asked another way 'round: which of the Classics would one have to hunt for to fill the gaps? It's pretty hard to find substantial information about what's on the Classics CDs! No sign yet of my Storyville box, by the way, but it ought to ship between today and a week from now, or so the French Amazon page says.
  7. No, I already have Crisis on LP, though I would like to have it on CD. I meant the many gaps in his discography where no recordings have been issued. Another wish would be a systematic, quality reissue program for the Argo catalog. Ah, I see... still, a Select or whatever little box of the Impulse material plus some other fitting rare stuff (Who's Crazy? for instance) would be nice! edited to try and get the feghed up quotes right...
  8. Is there a lot? I only have one broadcast (late 1936 or early 1937 - terrible sound but magic music...) I thought Revenant was actually trying to do this, but I haven't heard anything new for some time ... I remember reading (but not where) that the reason for these gaps was Ornette's dislike for those albums (assuming you're talking of "Crisis" and other albums from those years). Another nerd's dream, promped by mention of Oscar Dennard: there's that Lionel Hampton All Stars date with Dennard, Lucky Thompson, Ray Copeland, Oscar Pettiford... released on various albums never in its entirety - we discussed it before, mikeweil knows (and posted back in that other thread, I'm sure) all the details. Would be great to have all of it, unedited, on one set!
  9. He plays drums on some titles of "Suite Sixteen" I think, but I didn't double-check it.
  10. oh, and don't tell me FIFA is less corrupt that the lumpics...
  11. I have no clue what this thread is about and where the olympics are being held when and all, but pulleeeaze, someone make them footballiotics not swarm over zurich next year! bomb the stadium, whatever it needs, I'm all for it! The germanorgy last year was already too much, I don't need it come any closer!
  12. the old ones were from Howard Hawks' classic "The Big Sleep", some dialogue bits mostly between the characters played by Bogart and Bacall.
  13. Feldman is indeed great on those Manne albums! The version of Cannonball's band with him may have been the very best... (but I have a soft spot for the sextet with Lateef, of course). Of his OJCs/Contemporarys, the "Arrival" is terrific, if only for it being an addition to the small catalogue of Scott LaFaro recordings. And yes, I'd love to hear that Soviet album in some form, a Mosaic Single would be a great idea! Let's write them some emails!
  14. That's rather worrying... EMI is in deepshit, no? Robbie Williams didn't turn out to be gold-shitting donkey they were hoping for and besides him they don't have any good horses in their stable... I dunno. Maybe it isn't an issue. It may be no more than an actuarial matter, that would remain unaffected even if EMI get taken over. I should think the business is worth very little in comparison to EMI as a whole. Let's hope that is so! ****** In the US being in rehab seems to be the way to go for sinners of any kind, but then I guess the "world" is less and less equal to the US...
  15. Yes to all of these propositions! And one more: a nicely done set collecting all of the Tadd Dameron airchecks! (with Fats Navarro but also the ones by later bands with Allen Eager, Kai Winding & the "Big Ten")
  16. Wow, how much I'd love to hear this set!
  17. In the same series, there was also a great 4-LP box by Martial Solal ("Live 1959/85", with Konitz, , John Lewis, Grappelli, Humair, NHOP and many others), from which 2 CD have been extracted. Even in this case, I suspect that some tracks went missing (but I've never seen those CDs - I only have the LP box set). luca Wow, never heard of that! Can you post some more details? Here are the covers of the two CDs: Vol. 1 seems to feature Solal with Roger Guérin (trumpet), Daniel Humair (drums), Gilbert Rovère (bass), N.H.
  18. That's rather worrying... EMI is in deepshit, no? Robbie Williams didn't turn out to be gold-shitting donkey they were hoping for and besides him they don't have any good horses in their stable...
  19. That would be $7 surface or $12 airmail. These are Mosaic's current international shipping rates: Purchase Value - Shipping by Surface [6-10 weeks] Up to $50 $7 $51 - $100 $12 Surface not available for orders over $100 Purchase Value - US Air Mail [3-5 weeks] Up to $50 $12 $51 - $100 $23 $101 - $200 $30 $201- $300 $35 Over $300 $45 Purchase Value - DHL/Airborne Express [1-3 weeks] Up to $50 $12 $51 - $100 $23 $101 - $200 $30 $201- $300 $35 Over $300 $45 The bold part is the problem. With the new prizes you can only have 5CD boxes delivered by surface mail. My latest orders all were more expensive than 100$ - the Bailey, the Condon Mob, the O'Day... no surface option there, just the one 30$ option, not much to chose from!
  20. Yeah, that's why I always went with the surface option anyway. Much less risk of getting damaged stuff, too. I once had a huge Mosaic/Trueblue order they forgot to mail and then of course sent it airmail to make up for their delay, after two months or so, and more than half of the jewel cases needed to be replaced... I always considered surface the better option.
  21. Well, like any capitalistic bastard, Cuscuna will charge what the market will bear. MG Yes, probably - and of course that's the way to go, stretch it as far as you can without losing customers... just this doesn't really suit the *very* positive image they have, being very customer/service related and always very kind in personal dealings, both on phone and by mail.
  22. I think 30$ is minimum for any Mosaic - and that's ridiculous! I never even dared to order a Select since they stopped having the slow surface option. 12$ is way too much compared to what these sets actually cost! And I figure if I order two, the cost is 24$? Edit: To add to MG's post: the 30$ cost almost looks like a covered-up prize-raise for non-US-customers to me!
  23. In the meantime, I've found my double LP. There are four tracks missing (the duo with Portal should be on the CD): Rhythm-a-ning: Roger Guerin (tp), Pierre Michelot(b), D.Humair(dr) April 12, 1966 Bram Van Velde: Franco Ambrosetti (tp), John English (tb), François Jeanneau (as), David Friedman (vib), Henri Texier (b), Daniel Humair(dr) January 17, 1981 Crac: Jean-Louis Chautemps (ts), J.F. Jenny-Clark (b), Daniel Humair (dr) May 25, 1981 Posez Baguettes: Jean-Pierre Drouet, Pierre Favre, Daniel Humair (perc.) August 22, 1982 Too bad the CD is missing anything, I wasn't aware of that! Thanks for the explanation. The actual line is: 'Voilà, maintenant je suis à vous...' -_- Yes, you're correct of course. Where is it from, what corny play is that they're watching? Sure some French classic, Corneille, Racine? (I'm clueless... 6.5 years of French in school, and no effing clue about French literature afterwards... totally useless teachers!)
  24. It means i'm all yours No need to teach French to the French... It's a line from "L'année dernière à Marienbad", alas just from the play they're watching right at the beginning, and not the line Ms. Seyrig tells to dear ubu... Actually I think it's "et maintenant [short pause] - je suis à vous"
  25. I confess having a burn of it, but if you could find the real thing, yes please!
