  1. There appears to be no disagreement that Mr. Waffen is guilty of stealing the material. If that's the case, what difference would it make for the government to argue that the cache was worth $70,000 while the defense will contend that it was only worth between $30,000 - $70,000? Does the value have something to do with the penalties that will eventually be assessed?
  2. I find it interesting that Mr. Haas had no questions prepared. Isn't that the nature of an interview?
  3. I'm sort of intrigued by "American Horror Story". As I understand it, this pushes the envelope in many different ways. Maybe worth a look. Maybe not.
  4. I believe it is Richard Basehart. Better known as Admiral Nelson. 10-4, Chuck! 2150, by.
  5. Too bad Mr. Dickshot didn't play with this guy.
  6. Silly me wondering why Alex Rodriguez is still batting clean-up when he's 0-10 (and looking completely overmatched) in the ALDS. This guy isn't exactly going to be the gift that keeps on giving as his once considerable skills continue to deteriorate between now and the end of, arguably, the worst contract in the history of baseball.
  7. You may not know the name, but you'll definitely know the sound. He passed away at age 90 last month. Thanks for the memory. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BJ6b9kfI1Tw
  8. That was a Kodak moment if ever there was one.
  9. S.I. is reporting that Francona will be launched. Seems premature to me, but they're saying it's a done deal. There's even some speculation bubbling up about the possibility of Joe Torre taking the Red Sox reins. How weird would that be?
  10. I have to respect Dan's frustration at this point. Still, I can't imagine when the pitchers and catchers report next Spring that he'll be able to refrain from a comment or two. Baseball gets in your blood. It would be awfully hard to just walk away. With respect to spitting, that's a chewing tobacco thing. If you've ever tried it (and I did once) you'll realize quickly that spitting is the only viable option. The last thing in the world you'd want to do is swallow. Trust me on this.
  11. The solo begins at about 5:35.
  12. The t-shirt concept is interesting. Considering that the sets appear to be pre-packaged, do they come in S, M, L and XL?
  13. Never had much sense of him one way or another. When I was a regular viewer of 60 Minutes, I generally enjoyed his curmudgeonly, fish out of water pieces at the end of every show. I thought he had a fairly keen sense of irony and the absurdity of everyday life and the human condition. One thing for sure, with him goes the last remaining link to the world of the Paleys the Murrows, the Cronkites and the mothership/monolith that was the Columbia Broadcasting System.
  14. Four games today for all the post-season marbles along with the possibility of two sudden death playoff games before it's all said and done. Gotta say, it doesn't get much better than this.
  15. Sophia Loren.
  16. An even less appetizing option with potential international repercussions:
  17. That may be the craziest ending I've ever seen. Three touchdowns in the last 1:12 resulting in a four point Michigan win. I can't believe how poorly both defenses performed when the game was there for the taking. Well played? Nope. Exciting? Oh yeah.
  18. Well, that, I must say, is truly awful. Both Marsalis and Clapton should be ashamed of themselves.
  19. Montero is still hitting, but the Yanks dropped their third straight one run game tonight. Who is this Laffey guy? He needs to go someplace, anyplace, that doesn't involve a pitching mound. Word on the street is that the Yanks will be calling up Delan Betances. That should be interesting.
  20. I suppose you're right. I'd just like to think there was a shred of dignity left in his game.
  21. Does anyone think Clapton cares anymore? To me, this is a sell-out on multiple levels. It would be nice to know if this was just a paycheck to him, or something he thought might somehow add to his already substantial legacy. Understand that I say this not having heard a note of their performance, a situation, BTW, that I have no intention of remedying any time soon.
  22. Give that man a kewpie doll.
  23. I don't know if necrophiliac castration counts as a crime against humanity or not, but if it does, start issuing the summonses. Jim, that's summonsi, not summonses.
  24. I've been a Netflix customer for about four years. The streaming piece of it is relatively new, but it's what they're banking on as they transition away from an actual physical product. While NF is adding new stock all the time, it's not exactly what I'd call A-list material. A fair number of older movies, a decent selection of documentaries but an awful lot of what strikes me as direct-to-video fare. Add to this their recent falling out with Starz as a major supplier of streamable content and you have to wonder about where they go with this. For the $20 I'm paying a month, I'm reasonably comfortable (I get two actual DVD's at a time and unlimited streaming) but if they continue to jack up the cost along the lines of their recent 60% increase, I'll have to re-assess the value.
