If it is Clem, welcome back. If Aric became Chewy so Clem can become MomsMobley. If it isn't Clem, well, welcome anyhow. I already like your style.

Some speculation at ESPN involving the possibility of Terrell Owens signing with the Redskins and rejoining Donovan McNabb. Wouldn't that be interesting. They're god friends you know, at least according to T.O.

I hope many of you can hear this on a good system. There are nuances abounding and the details make the music what it is. Jasmine is a night-blooming flower with a beautiful fragrance and I hope you can hear what went into this, as there is no way to do anything as touching as this by rehearsing it until it dies. This is spontaneous music made on the spot without any preparation save our dedication throughout our lives that we won't accept a substitute: it's either the real thing or it's nothing. It's either real life or it's a cartoon. Before I go ahead and gag on this, I had a thought. Maybe Mr. Jarrett would consider re-recording this CD and substituting a slide whistle or a Jew's harp or even a pocket comb with a piece of paper wrapped around it for what I assume will be the usual collection of honks, buzzes and wheezing. Then we as listeners would have the option of choosing real life (according to Keith) or a cartoon. I know which way I'd go.

Romo should stick to placeholding for extra points or boinking Jessica Simpson. Oh, snap. He can't do those either. Also, given that he's rarely seen in public these days without that stupid newsboy cap, I can only assume that he's (as Elaine Benes would say) balding.

organissimo - ALIVE & KICKIN' - new live CD/DVD
Dave James replied to Jim Alfredson's topic in Announcements
Jim, Is the Level 3 package still available? I can't find any reference to it on your website. Thanks. -
I'm not a fan of college basketball, but that was a hell of a game from anyone's perspective. If that last shot from half court had gone in, I think I'd probably have felt the reverberations all the way out here on the left coast. Congratulations to Butler University. That was some run.

I didn't realize that when Shanahan came to Denver, John Elway was a year older than McNabb is now.

I'm not one who believes that trading McNabb was the wrong thing to do. Not at this point. Most Philadelphia fans had tired of his act and were ready to see him go. I certainly won't miss watching him short arm another ball at the feet of an open receiver or his shit eating "it's on me" grin when he screwed up. What I don't understand is the process. More than a few people believe the the Eagles overplayed their hand. By that, I mean they kept thinking they could do better and when the offers got worse, they were forced to take what they could get. I'm also aware that the team wanted to provide McNabb with as soft a landing as possible, meaning that trading him to a perennial loser like an Oakland or a Buffalo wasn't in the cards. Maybe that comes back to haunt them, maybe it doesn't. Only time will tell. One thing for sure, I would not want to be Kevin Kolb if things get off to a rocky start next year. All those fans who ran McNabb out of Dodge will be merciless. Not to mention that how this plays out will have more than a small impact on Andy Reid's future with the team. Last but not least, let's not forget the last time the Eagles traded a quarterback within their division. Does the name Sonny Jurgensen ring any bells?

Someone needs to explain to me why Girardi left Sabbathia in the game when he'd clearly started to lose it in the 5th. That's why you have a bullpen. I'm still not comfortable having that guy behind the wheel even if the Yanks did win the World Series win last year.

The Eagles have agreed to trade Donovan McNabb to the Washington Redskins for draft picks. Philadelphia will get the 'Skins 37th pick this year and conditional 3rd or 4th round pick in 2011. Frankly, I'm surprised they dealt McNabb within their own division. That means they have to face him twice every year. Should be interesting the first time Washington comes to Philly. The pressure now shifts to Kevin Kolb. I think he'll be fine. Plus, all the picks the Eagles now have might allow them to trade up in this year's draft and shore up their defensive secondary.

Oops, someone must have forgotten to tell the Yankees that Josh Beckett is the Red Sox #1 pitcher and not a rented mule. I guess when you're beating someone like they're beating Josh, it might be hard to tell the difference.

If I understand correctly, the weather is unseasonably warm in Boston this weekend. Hopefully, this will have CC closer to mid-season form.

All I can say is I'm glad I didn't run into that mono mix when I was in, shall we say, my experimental period. That's the kind of thing that could've messed up your head for a week or ten days. According to Richie Unterberger's The Unreleased Beatles, there is an alternate take of Tomorrow on Anthology 2. I just checked it out but it's not the mono version Jim is referring to. It is pretty peculiar in its own right. Sounds like a really early take. His only other mention of the song is as follows: The mix on the first mono British pressing of Revolver lasts about three seconds longer, with different placement of the special effects. Even though Ian McDonald devotes several pages to the song in Revolution in the Head, there's no mention of the mono take. I wonder why Martin pulled it. I actually like it better than the "released" version. Addendum: Check this out: http://rateyourmusic.com/release/unauth/the_beatles/alternate_revolver/

Anyone catch the halftime segment of the Michigan State Butler game that featured President Obama taking on Clark Kellogg in a game of horse? The Prez has a nice stroke. Once he warmed up, he was dealing from the three point arc. I'm not sure how legitimate the outcome was, but let's just say it wasn't Kellogg's finest hour. I think he's going to ship some serious grief from his CBS counterparts.

I picked it up the other day when I was at Costco. Pretty reasonable price, like $18.00. I haven't read it yet, but it's gotten very good reviews. The fact that it's an authorized biography and that Mays made himself available to the author should make it a pretty good read.

For purposes of calling attention to the idiocy of baseball's 162 game regular season schedule, I'd love nothing more than a Colorado Minnesota World Series. Maybe trying to play games inbetween snow storms and in 20 degree weather would finally make people realize that changes are in order. In my perfect world, MLB would return to a 154 game format and further shorten the season by scheduling a half a dozen double headers for each team. Baseball needs to be played in warm weather. If you want to denigrate the quality of the product and make fans miserable in the process, keep things the way they are. Just another brick in the do nothing wall of Bud Selig.

So long, Blake Carrington. In its day, at least for me, Dynasty was the kind of television show that would cause you to rearrange your schedule to ensure that you didn't miss it. Forsythe's first role was in a 1943 Cary Grant WWII movie called Destination Tokyo. It plays on TCM with some regularity. He also played Bentley Gregg in the '50's family sit com Bachelor Father and last but not least, was the voice of Charlie in Charlie's Angels. He was 92 years old.

I don't want to get New and Improved Dan worked up too early in the season, but even with the signing of Texiera, Sabbathia and Burnett, the Yankees overall payroll was $16.5 million less in 2009 than it was in 2008. At this point, finally putting a lid on their outrageous and unconscionable spending habits of the past would seem to be working out quite well, wouldn't you say?

Matthew, How's that been working out for you?

Mosaic to reissue OOP sets in Europe
Dave James replied to Swinging Swede's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
Reliable sources indicate that the first European Mosaic will be the Complete Edison Recordings of Buddy Bolden, a.k.a I Remember Bunk, The Music of Willie G. Johnson. Sadly, industry insiders have also revealed that the set is to be issued on a single wax cylinder as a result of an agreement with representatives of the Bolden estate who were concerned with maintaining the authenticity of the cornetist's original sound. The following recordings will be included on the cylinder: 1) Ace In The Hole 2) Alexander's Rag Time Band 3) Ballin' The Jack 4) Arkansas Blues 5) Mama's Gone Goodbye 6) Ace In The Hole (alt. tk #1) 7) Ace In The Hole (alt. tk #2) 8) Buddy Bolden Interview. -
Big Sale at Mosaic--3/17/10 through 3/31/10
Dave James replied to Ron S's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
...hands off snakey!! I think it's high time we admitted that we're all addicted, in the very worst sense of the word, to buying music. Acquiring is primary. Listening is secondary. -

A quick (personal) update ...
Dave James replied to neveronfriday's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Hoping that the worst is now behind you. Sounds like you've had way more than your share of setbacks. I'm thinking you're overdue for a very lengthly bout of good health. Hang in there and keep a positive attitude. -
We may have done this at some point, but if we have, I can't recall. Anyhow, this question popped up three times on my Facebook account today and I thought it might fun to kick around here. I'm not talking about jazz, just the first show you ever saw that featured a famous band. For me, it was The Beach Boys in Corvallis, Oregon. I looked up the date of the concert on the internet tonight. It was March 6, 1966.
