  1. Lacy and Shepp in one group…. Definitely interested but as Mark mentioned perhaps a little expensive. Will dive into it when it’s released.
  2. I think you’ll like. It’s a pretty unique record if you ask me. Not free but definitely something else.
  3. i think this record proves that Elmo Hope is not a pianist to play in the background. Like for example Herbie Nichols he is an attention demanding pianist without playing really out.
  4. Fred Thomas from Sam records is reissuing this great record. Originals go for insane prices and the Japanese reissues were pretty expensive too. This one is from the tapes. The Japanese I don’t know. I have great experience with Sam records. https://samrecords.fr/produit/sahib-shihab-and-the-danish-radio-jazz-group-oktav-1965/
  5. last one for this day

    Archie Shepp

That's the Montreux group right? On Freedom records? Those are among my favorite Shepp records. I was so fortunate to see him at the Bimhuis in 2010. Though not really comparable to his 60's and 70's work it was an unforgettable experience.

    Archie Shepp

Hope all the best for him. A huge fan! Shepp got me into the free stuff
  8. This German cd pressing must be the worst cd sounding I have. Is it the pressing or the recording? The distortian is almost unbearable at times. It's insanely good though. Cecil Bridgewater, Enrico Rava, Charles Sullivan, Sonny Fortune, Carlos Ward, Roland Alexander, John Stubblefield, Hamiet Bluiett, Cecil McBee and the great Roy Brooks....
  9. Definitely. Same goes for The Call, Spanish Bitch and Number Nineteen.
  10. Abdullah Ibrahim - Senzo Art Tatum - Solo Masterpieces vol.2 Thelonious Monk - Solo in San Francisco Oscar Peterson - My Favorite Instrument Abdullah Ibrahim - African Magic Uri Caine - Moloch Mal Waldron - Meditations Mal Waldron - The Opening McCoy Tyner - Echoes of a Friend Michel Petrucciani - Au Theatre Champes-Elysees
  11. This is the only Byas in my collection but I frequently revisit it: https://www.discogs.com/release/4790053-Don-Byas-Ambiances-Et-Slows A compliation on Barclay from his years in France.
  12. My favorite Ella. What a voice she had 🥰
  13. That’s a tough one. If I’d really really had to make a decision I’d say Number Nineteen is my favorite studio trio date and Black Glory my favorite live trio date. And if I really had to choose beteeen them I’d probably go for Black Glory. But would still want to mention Blood and Guts as a serious runner up live record and Free at Last, Tokyo Bound and First Encounter as essential trio studio records. But now I am cheating
  14. Yeah me too.
  15. Oh my 🥰
  16. Erik Friedlander plays Masada book 2: Book of Angels Vol. 8 Volac Beautiful solo cello record from Erik Friedlander. A Book of Angels favorite.
  17. Oh yes lots of interesting stuff in that catalogue! And very well recorded.
  18. The upcoming reissue made me spin this again. I still agree with every praising word I gave to it. I am curious how the reissue will sound. Guess it will not be from the master tapes? The original sounds incredible as all those Japanese Victors from the ‘70’s do.
  19. Wow guys this is great news. If there’s one record that deserves a good reissue it’s this one! It’s my favorite Mal record which says something I think. For those not convinced I hope to convince with my blog review: https://snake-out.blogspot.com/2021/01/1972-mal-waldronterumasa-hino.html its really really good. I have the original Japanese LP and almost never buy a second version but I am seriously considering this as it means a lot to me. Also glad for the cd collectors this finally comes out on that format.
  20. Excellent record for listening while storm Ciaran passes by here. I’ve got fond memories of this record as it was the only Coleman Hawkins record my dad had but he spinned it a lot, loud and especially on dark rainy autumn afternoons. I later picked it up as one of my first vinyl records for 5 euros.
  21. Wow, the mentality of some people...
  22. Yeah the old Bimhuis was also a building like that, though according to my parents the atmosphere was fantastic and very intimate: I like the new one which of course is very modern but it fits pretty good in the 'IJ' skyline: I'd buy any of these in a heartbeat. Looking foward to any upcoming releases!
  23. Glad to hear! Enjoy
