  1. Fully agree! Simmons remains such a underrated figure. I’ve always loved the way he connected bop and free jazz and his warm voice. A very creative and original artist. I always wonder why for instance the Japanese reissue companies never issued such a record as Rumasuma. Glad I secured a vinyl copy last year.

    The Leaders

None of their albums is bad. It’s just that with these names, you expect a little more. And you start listening with those high expectations and feel disappointed when it sounds like a solid but average bop date. The Cookers are a group that do make up high expectations though I don’t see a connection either.
  3. Schwaller is on two dates by German drummer Klaus Weiss: https://snake-out.blogspot.com/2021/05/1979-klaus-weiss-quintet-on-tour.html? https://snake-out.blogspot.com/2021/05/1978-klaus-weiss-quintet-childs-prayer.html? I agree he is an excellent saxophonist with a very strong and original sound.

Not Jay Hoggard either. No Hutch and nog Hoggard.... The remaining possible vibists in this style get smaller and smaller.... It's not him but there are defintely similarities.

Ladies and gentlemen. The new BFT is up and running: http://thomkeith.net/index.php/blindfold-tests/ its summer for most of us so that’s the season I listen a little less jazz and be a little more outside. Anyway I made it a little shorter than usual for me (11 tracks this time) a wide variety in styles and mostly names not mentioned a lot here I am curious if people here like the choices…. Looking forward to your reactions.
  8. I think it’s a great series that tend to get overlooked a little. They are going to reissue the Waldron/Wilen date as well
  9. If I had to mention the best post 1970 straight ahead jazz session it would probably be this one…. On hideous silver vinyl ik the new Timeless reissue series. Sounds great btw
  10. alrrqdy had these on cd. But still wanted these vinyl reissues
  11. Well I like Berlin a lot but not for it’s record stores
  12. I was in Berlin last week and spent a full afternoon visiting record stores. I attended 11 shops and walked 21 kilometers. Ended up with only one record: Nathan Davis’ Rules of Freedom which appeared to be a bootleg after all (why the hell would a record store sell illegal stuff?) glad I have a cd version too Pretty big disappointment. I had pretty high expectations with the enourmius amount of stores. Biggest disappointment was the much praised ‘Space Hall’ which wasn’t big at all, dark, silent and a lousy and small section of jazz records.

A bad excuse I know but just busy, busy, busy. On a school trip with some of my high school classes in Berlin now. Will try to listen when I’m back though

    Steve Lacy

Huge fan of Lacy but can’t get used to Aebi’s vocals yet. But that that might come for me as well I’ll keep trying.
  15. I was pretty disappointed this one did not appear in the new Classics line-up
  16. I seldom replace my albums as well unless the original is really crappy (some of the 75th birthday editions). As I did not own this album yet this was a great opportunity
  17. I really love the fact that Blue Note hase chosen to make a Tone Poet out of this one. Wilson must be the most forgotten and underrated big band leader. This one’s on fire and it’s awesome to hear it in such high fidelity
  18. Thanks! Of course this free offer was only made for the Organissimo community. On Discogs I am trying to make an unreasonable and insane profit over these booklets
  19. I always wondered how so many people got incomplete sets or on the opposite: have spare booklets, double discs etcetera. I still don’t understand but when I ordered a second hand set of the Mulligan Quartet it came with an extra booklet. And also a booklet of the Paul Desmond Quartets mosaic. And one of the Eddie Condon set…. Maybe there’s somebody here that I could make happy with them? Pm if interested. Idea of this thread: if you have a spare booklet, box or LP you could post them here. Maybe there is someone out there who you could make happy.
