Now I’ve got a few of these in my collection, mostly bought when I was unaware of this ‘label’ called Scorpio. But everytime I listened to them I did notice that they did not sound great and different from all Blue Note records with a date of release. I’ve got two questions about them: 1. How does this thing work? Are these legit? I mean they violate every US copyright law don’t they. But Scorpio is based in the US. How do they get away with it? 2. Did they also do this with other labels than Blue Note? I recently bought an undated reissue of Jimmy Heath’s ‘On The Trail’ and don’t like the sound at all. It has that same weird empty and flat sound.

@clifford_thornton ive only seen on the internet once. But hey nothing is impossible. The reissue is a pretty good alternative and an exact copy of the original. Thanks for reading the blog! @mjazzg I hope I am able to convince you. If I manage to do so, set some money aside every month because collecting Mal is indeed expensive

Thanks for all the kind and encouraging words guys! That really motivates me even more to complete this fairly big project @Niko you could be right on that. I can’t find any other data and no studio is mentioned anywhere. I also once read that Mal did not visit the states until 1973... but that is probably not true.

In the topic on Mal Waldron I stated proudly that I had collected all of Mal's music as a leader, and from 1964 all his music as a co-leader and sideman as well. Happenings was not releases as a Tone Poet. It was released in the 75th birthday series and my copy sucks. Loud pops and it sounds damaged although there is nothing to be seen on the vinyl.

I’ve got about 80 titles for sale. I think I sell 1 cd/lp per month. Not a lot of work to get it in the marketplace. Of course the packaging and shipping is a little more work so I don’t sell titles that are worth less than 10 euros. I don’t feel an urge to sell asap. When I sell something that’s nice and I buy something else in return.

For me no amazon or Dodax this year. We're in another full lockdown here in the Netherlands cause of covid 19. Record stores are also closed but most of them decided to deliver at home. So I ordered at my local record store here to support it in these tough times. What I ordered: On CD: On new vinyl: The last two are new releases on the great 'Pure Pleasure' label. Can't wait to give them a spin.
