  1. I think the most interesting tracks on Castro Marín are those without McLaughlin and Coryell. (One or both play on two of the seven tracks.)
  2. House of Cards season 2 episode 4. Downloaded it about two weeks ago, watched the first three episodes, then the next day forgot I even had it on my harddrive for a week or so. Not a good sign?
  3. Unfortunately, I cannot import Platinum SHM-CDs without incurring the wrath of the Dutch Customs Nazis, they are too expensive at ¥3333. The Platinum is a limited edition and both were released within six months of each other. Since the Prestige 7000 SHM series contains new masterings and both were mastered in 2013, I think it's safe to assume they have the same mastering. PS Regular Prestige SHMs also have HR cutting.
  4. Plus 4 and Tenor Madness should be here any day now. There is so much to choose from at the moment. Just ordered Moving Out and Saxophone Colossus. I'm guessing Saxophone Colossus has the same mastering as the Platinum SHM-CD from late last year.
  5. I think it's a pretty good album and intend to get the SHM. (I currently only have a FLAC rip of the Connoisseur.) PS CD Japan's frontpage has just been given a facelift.
  6. I wish they would finally release More From An Evening With Joe Henderson on CD.
  7. While I've known about the story of Coltrane being high on the Om session from the start, the possibility that he might have been high during the recording of Interstellar Space has never even occurred to me. In the end, like Paul and Scott, I too don't give a rat's ass.
  8. It seems unlikely in this case with respect to previous CD issues, but BN are in the process of releasing their catalogue as 24bit/192kHz downloads at HD Tracks. Perhaps similar but new transfers?
  9. sonically or in content....? i was finally able to listen to 'on broadway' and 'grass roots' on my freshly serviced 2270 last night. i liked what i heard - detail, musicality, and at least on these two titles, an excellent soundstage. order #2 being placed this evening... Sonically. Makes me wonder if they used the same master as the RVG. The Patton and Rivers both sound better than the shorter Juju. Or maybe I need to clean my ears.... I compared the RVG to the SHM on headphones and they are not the same mastering. For instance, with the RVG the sax is most upfront of all instruments with everything else sort of receded. On House of Jade for instance there is more stereo separation and around 0:30 the drummer's brushes (right) are more upfront together with Wayne's sax (left). (I'm not saying JuJu's SHM is up there with the best this series has to offer.)
  10. Hard Bop is still available at Jazzmessengers for €14.99, but buying it a second time is probably not what you have in mind.
  11. unavailable from 'cd japan', perhaps, but not out of print by a long shot... And when a vendor like HMV Japan refuses to ship to the Netherlands, that leaves discs OOP for all practical purposes. We are talking about several re-issue series here, Bethlehem, BN, Prestige, with literally hundreds of interesting discs. I can't pay extortion prices for all of them. If there is a cheap alternative to CD Japan (and HMV Japan) with lots of stock I'd like to know about it. There is one Japanese seller on eBay whose prices are still reasonable, ftfym65.
  12. A lot of good music on Bethlehem. I'm looking forward to the Pollard.
  13. Episode 4. "Had to be though. Living with somebody spouting insane shit in your ear. All day long."
  14. You put your money where your mouth was.

  16. Yeesh! Are they planning anything interesting besides vinyl and Apps for iPad for the US/EU? (New recordings don't count.)
  17. I find it funny that OOP albums are almost always over-rated. I remember being unimpressed when this was first released, and my feelings about it haven't changed much since. But the price sure has gone up --- almost as much as the perception. It's a shame there seem to be no sound samples up for Tokyo Live anywhere on the internet to deter potential buyers. I would not have spent $26 on it otherwise.
