  1. A great send-off for that old swinging dick, Bert Cooper. Perhaps he could return for the final seven episodes as a mascot. The swinging Office paperclip to Harry's new computer.
  2. This morning I filed a PayPal claim against Jazzybird. The registered package never shipped, and the seller failed to respond to my emails. I would normally not have mentioned this, however, I posted a link to this seller's website on 5 May. This morning I edited out the link and seller's name, but the link had been up for 16 days.
  3. I had the 2014 DSD remaster from Japan delivered this week. It's on 2 CDs and available until 12 March, 2015. Good sound, fair price. The liner notes (a fold out sheet) are in Japanese only. Did the original LP release have liner notes? Edit: It seem I have found the answer to my question in this JPG of the inside of the previous French Sony CD.
  4. I had the Ornette Chappaqua Suite 2 CD delivered this week, and am very happy with the music and sound quality. 2014 DSD remaster according to the obi. Any opinions on the three Blakey Au Club Saint Germain albums? I have and enjoy the Blue Note Birdland and Cafe Bohemia albums.
  5. Cooper turning so cold on Don wasn't a surprise, given his admiration for Ayn Rand in season 1. Don is damaged goods.
  6. Link There's a 64 minutes interview with the author, Keith Waters, about the book on the New Books Network. It's downloadable as an mp3 file.
  7. Yasuhiro Fujioka posts some pictures of Mitten Hall, Temple University on his blog.
  8. as there seems to float different versions of these rereleases, could you describe how the cd(=cd-r) looks like btw which indicators made you detecting the cd-r status ? It was a real cheap looking disc with lots of green hues. Unmistakable. The artwork and slipcase were like I had seen the album look for the past decade in record stores.
  9. CD-R alert. I ordered the 24bit remasters a while ago through amazon.de. One of the discs was a CD-R. The other two volumes were still shrink-wrapped when I returned all three volumes for a refund.
  10. Impossible!, but ... John Coltrane - Ascension and Meditations Miles Davis - Sorcerer (perhaps Nefertiti) Andrew Hill - Andrew!!!
  11. I ordered the Archie Shepp from a French seller called .... It did not come cheap.
  12. I ordered the SHM of Archie Shepp's Attica Blues. It was missing from my collection anyway, and I'm curious to know if it'll be as excellent as some of the Coltrane SHMs from this batch.
  13. @jazzbo : thnx for your input !! I have the SHM and XRCD24 of Art Blakey's A Night In Tunisia. The XRCD24 has (more) extreme stereo separation, Wayne's tenor is really only audible through the right channel. Both series indeed have a signature sound. I'm happy with both.
  14. It was released on XRCD24 in January. Link The XRCD24 is probably the one to get and there's not much of a difference in price.
  15. To be fair, the Led Zeppelin remasters are also available as 2 CD mini LPs for £12.99 pre-order price.
  16. Thanks!! I pretty much view the board exclusively on my iPhone these days (laptop died at home, and I shouldn't be on the board at work -- the internet connection here is pretty slow). My memory of the "big list" you'd linked to (buried deep in the thread) was that it was just a big list (didn't realize it had release dates). The mobile-version of the forum software doesn't have any way to jump to specific pages within a thread (or, as best as I can tell, a way to just to be very beginning of the thread without going back page, by page, by page). But thanks! OK, I don't have a mobile phone, so I didn't realise.
  17. I spent a few hours checking sites for security and updating all my passwords where already possible. The state of security on Importcds and CDJapan was an eye opener.
  18. Also, Resonance Records, which is a 501 ©(3) non-profit foundation, will contribute a portion from every sale to the John Coltrane Home (www.thecoltranehome.org), an organization devoted to the preservation of Coltrane’s former home in Dix Hills, New York.
  19. From the BBC: Several tech firms are urging people to change all their passwords after the discovery of a major security flaw. ----------------- Before you update your passwords it is important to make sure the website in question is no longer vulnerable to the Heartbleed Bug by using a test site like https://www.ssllabs.com/ssltest/index.html. For instance, Jazzmessengers.com was still vulnerable a moment ago. Any updated password will be just as unsafe as the previous one. Edit: www.mosaicrecords.com is safe from the bug so it is possible to update your password. Importcds and CDJapan are safe from the bug, but get a low score from vulnerabilities in other areas.
  20. I gues in this day and age, when a man orders a burgundy red sweater and is sent a bright orange one, it is his fault he is not wearing the right kind of contact lenses that would cause the sweater to appear red. He should stop nitpicking since the sweater is obviously the right size anyway.
  21. I don't expect electronic gear to save the day either but IF something has phase/polarity inverted, correcting it does improve the sound, reverses the treble/bass balance, restores the ambient information which defines a lot of the soundstage, etc. Sucks that these get released that way, but being able to correct it can improve enjoyment of the sound. At least it stopped me kvetching about these releases and allows me to actually use what i spent money on in these cases. No offence intended, Lon, but instead of kvetching there is a danger you sometimes end up praising remasters that are subpar.
