If you could only have one Mosaic box...

I have only a couple of Mosaic releases, but: The Complete Blue Note Andrew Hill Sessions (1963-1966) & Mosaic Select 13 Don Pullen -
Exclusive: Journalist uses Freedom of Information Act to disclose 1961 accident in which one switch averted catastrophe A secret document, published in declassified form for the first time by the Guardian today, reveals that the US Air Force came dramatically close to detonating an atom bomb over North Carolina that would have been 260 times more powerful than the device that devastated Hiroshima. The document, obtained by the investigative journalist Eric Schlosser under the Freedom of Information Act, gives the first conclusive evidence that the US was narrowly spared a disaster of monumental proportions when two Mark 39 hydrogen bombs were accidentally dropped over Goldsboro, North Carolina on 23 January 1961. The bombs fell to earth after a B-52 bomber broke up in mid-air, and one of the devices behaved precisely as a nuclear weapon was designed to behave in warfare: its parachute opened, its trigger mechanisms engaged, and only one low-voltage switch prevented untold carnage.

Amazon auto-rips: Bonus cuts sometimes!

Isn't it a bit ironic that now that the adult you can afford to buy all that music in physical form you wax lyrical about subscription on demand AM radio. I can't afford to buy everything I want, by any means. Afford in terms of cash, time to listen and space. And when I have to be taken into the old folks' home because I keep wetting the bed or something, and I say, 'where can I put these thousands of LPs, CDs and K7s?' I can well imagine the short reply I'll get, and I'll be glad a substantial proportion of them are on my hard drives. MG In The Netherlands chances of getting into an old folks home have been reduced to zero due to the neoliberal solutions to the crisis. They want you to stay at home and prefer the neighborhood and family to help you out. Else they'll try to take as much of your savings as they can. Our happy new 'participation society'. At least they won't confiscate your LP/CD collection. Oh, you think my cassettes are in danger? MG They need those to fix the uneven table legs of the civil servants's desks. -

Black Saint and Sinner Lady: Analogue Prod. or Speakers Corner?
erwbol replied to 1stpress's topic in The Vinyl Frontier
Borderline too loud for sensitive ears, I imagine. I have the Sonny Rollins twofer On Impulse!/There Will Never Be Another You. A good budget option. Not bad like the Coltrane Impulse! Originals of Crescent with all these horrible earsplitting peaks. -

Black Saint and Sinner Lady: Analogue Prod. or Speakers Corner?
erwbol replied to 1stpress's topic in The Vinyl Frontier
As David said, the APO SACDs of both Black Saint and Mingus 5x are excellent. -
Yes, it's the same. That's an essential music DVD (along with the Jazz Icons Mingus).

Yesterday, I watched the first episode of season one of Luther. Some shockingly violent images of a dead golden retriever. And the killer must be the Alice mentioned above that is still alive at the end of the third season. What kind of a police drama is this? I'm curious what this will turn into.

I'm not slamming the AAJ board, which I've rarely visited, and it's members, but speaking from my own experience, the rest of the site has become pretty useless as a comprehensive resource on jazz. And I happen to agree the banning of reviews of Chuck's releases is petty. I have no use for such a site.
-
What a childish thing to do. I wonder if it ever occurred to Mr Ricci that this harms the artists and that surely can't be the intention of a jazz site. I stopped reading the AAJ review section on a daily basis years ago. It's pretty much useless to me now. I get my recommendations from forums like Organissimo.

It's hard to find the jazz related topics, though. I registered, but under a different username. My postcount is still 1.

Really, another uptight music forum?

I've come to prefer Edition II primarily because it's the artists preferred take. It has been the first track on all CD releases both in the West and Japan (except The Major Works) and the solos have become very familiar in a good way. I should select Edition I the next few times I play Ascension.
