  1. I don't know about anyone else, but I can't see your post's image this side of the Atlantic, boss.
  2. Again: Stanley Cowell Trio Sienna (THCD-458). The latest Japanese reissue with 24bit mastering released by Think! Records. Terrific album and very good remastering.
  3. That's depressing. But then again, the master tapes for A Love Supreme were also missing and eventually recovered a couple of years ago.
  4. Was it good? I stopped three episodes or so into season three.
  5. Much superior to the 2002 deluxe edition. P.S. There are other regular SHM-CDs of A Love Supreme that do not contain the flat transfer. That's just on the platinum disc from 2013.
  6. I haven't heard that one yet. Perhaps I should track down a copy even though with Offering already on Stellar Regions it is only for three tracks. I have heard the 1987 CD of Crescent, though it's not as nice as the ALS platinum SHM-CD. I was a bit sceptical about the A Love Supreme platinum SHM-CD at the time because of its high price, but member RiRilll kindly sent me a rip of the flat transfer through Dropbox.
  7. Yes, it does. It's the term used, also in the description on CD Japan. So no compression, equalisation, etc. Just the master tape transferred to DSD as is and then made into a CD. The master has a wider stereo image, a huge deep bass, warm mids. You can crank the volume all the way up. Very pleasing to listen to.
  8. Some were recently made available again on regular budget CDs in Japan, but not in the US and EU. Not all of the Coltrane SHM-CDs from 2011 were new remasters. Some copied the sound of the Impulse! Originals CDs from the US, like Live at Birdland. The new remasters from 2011 were all late period Coltrane. There were also Platinum SHM-CDs in 2013 of Ballads and A Love Supreme. These contained flat transfers of the master tapes. Very educational listening. A different experience from any other previous issue, be it vinyl or CD. I have only A Love Supreme of these two. The latest US reissue from 2015 (The Complete Masters) sounds wonderful, but a flat transfer of the master tapes is a very different experience. Sometimes these kind of new remasters are also available on places HD Tracks like some of the Deutsche Grammophon SHM-CDs based on DSD remasters: e.g. Chopin Etudes by Pollini.
  9. I'm looking into it. Here's the OBI from NHOP's Jaywalkin':
  10. I think the latest remasters first used on the 2011 SHM-CDs were from the US made specifically for the Japanese market. Like with the Prestige 7000 series SHM-CDs from 2013 mastered by Paul Blackmore.
  11. Yes, thanks again for the tip on Danish SteepleChase CD-Rs.
  12. I'm very sorry to hear that, Lon. -------------- Now listening to this new arrival: Stanley Cowell Trio Sienna (THCD-458). The latest Japanese reissue released by Think! Records. The OBI strip says this is a 24bit remaster which I assume is new because the original Danish CD is from 1989. The OBI calls this the SteepleChase 45th Anniversary Legend Collection. Sound is very good, not loud. I don't know how the original CD sounded, but I'm going to get more of these Japanese SteepleChase reissues, since SteepleChase itself has started using CD-Rs a while ago. I just pre-ordered Clifford Jordan Firm Roots from CD Japan.
  13. Nice! I'm pleasantly surprised!
  14. Nobody knew geography could be so complicated.
  15. You'd think the potential audience for these unreleased sessions is only shrinking, so why not release all this material already?
  16. John Coltrane - Live In Seattle (SHM-CD) Trying to make some people here a bit jealous. Great warm sound. You can crank this thing all the way up.
  17. You don't get the weekly email? The links are also featured on Mosaic's homepage: http://www.mosaicrecords.com P.S. Not that I share David's criticism.
  18. Which edition are you listening to? The first double CD is unlistenable for me. The SHM-CD with 2011 DSD mastering of the last three sonatas is a vast improvement, though still not up to modern standards. Unfortunately, sonatas no. 28 & 29 have yet to be released in this new DSD mastering in Japan.
  19. Are you also a fan of Pollini's DG recording of Chopin's Etudes? I am considering buying the SHM-CD with DSD remastering.
