  1. One of my most beloved Blue Note`s.......... obtained this (what seems like ages ago) as new release of subject japanese pressing... One of my favourite jazz albums as well. No vinyl for me, but I have the Connoisseur, BN Works, and JRVG. JRVG is the best physical digital release.
  2. Be sure to check your set for a faulty sped up disc 4. There's no reason to believe faulty sets aren't still being send to consumers from old stock. The total time on the corrected disc 4 reads 67:48 on my CD player, the defective disc 65:10.
  3. Even if, unlike the Murray Octets, some sets are decent when compared to the old CDs, I always want to own the best digital copy available, and I find it hard to believe that any of these sets are actually better than the old CDs. So, a complete failure in my eyes.
  4. Then wait until the film is legally distributed in your country...or if you really don't think the film is worth a cent then don't watch it at all. I allocate most of my disposable income to buying music legally. On the other hand, I couldn't care less about what anyone thinks of my habit of pirating Hollywood movies & US television shows through bittorrent.
  5. I don't live in the US. And this scumbag thinks this unfunny sack of shit isn't worth a cent.
  6. Best wishes for a complete recovery to both of you.
  7. I think you're mistaking Christmas for Good Friday/Easter.
  8. How do you know you got them right? I don't even think you were shown the right answers at the end, even though most of the questions were for dummies.
  9. The Interview. Sony releasing it online (for a US audience only) meant a 1080p webrip would be made available on bittorrent within hours. http://youtu.be/gKH1PymutJQ Dutch commercial from 2001. Edit: 50 minutes in. That commercial is a lot funnier thus far.
  10. The ones i've heard (about 14 sets, though not the Trovesi or any of the other recent ones) sound fine to me, at least not butchered. Not really wanting to get into a massive discussion about it as i feel like we've been there before: just want to present an alternative viewpoint FWIW. This has indeed been discussed before on several occasions. I see we both made our first Organissimo posts in this thread.
  11. What did you think of the wooshing on disc 2 when compared to the several problematic soundcloud samples, ArtSalt?
  12. I HATE these box sets. The ones I've heard and compared to the original CDs sounded horrible. CAM jazz is butchering the Black Saint & Soul Note catalogs. They should have just collected the original CD masterings in budget box sets.
  13. Without taking the test, my best guess...
  14. I'm ordering the traditional Christmas pizza.
  15. Yes! http://smile.amazon.com/MCCOY-TYNER-Giants-McCoy-Tyner/dp/0793507472/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1419086199&sr=1-1&keywords=mccoy+tyner That book was published in 1992 according to Amazon. I figured that could not be the book Ghost of Miles meant. Edit: Going by the two amazon reviews it seems to be a book of sheet music.
  16. Was McCoy's autobiography ever published?
  17. From the Complete Atlantic Recordings book: "Dannie Richmond was originally a saxophonist - he told Francis Boland he could only play the blues on that instrument - and had taken up drums just before being introduced to Mingus by alto saxophonist Lou Donaldson."
  18. How does your dog communicate this insight?
  19. My view is this: Sonny wanted to play for the people, specifically the middle class. He did not want to play avant garde; he wanted to groove. In a way, he took a very challenging stance: to force his hardcore jazz audience to accept musicians like Stanley Clarke, George Duke and Larry Coryell as real, substantive jazz musicians. He reaffirmed that melody, rhythm and (perhaps most of all) approachability were core to his jazz experience. He wanted to be the opposite of an elitist. Music for the plebs? Hey, the guy just wanted to waltz.
  20. Ornette is on 2.
  21. I think I once saw/read an interview where it was explained that Bob Cranshaw was no longer able to cope with the demands of playing an upright bass, hence the bass guitar.
