  1. Michael and Peter Giles!!!
  2. That's one of a few Lps that I regret selling many years ago. I found my copy in mint shape for $4 and could not resist the easy/quick profit to be had at the time
  3. Yeah I guess I should add that I almost always use reverb too!
  4. My friend just bought the new electro harmonix C9 pedal and he says it's amazing. I watched the demo and I must admit I'm tempted to get one myself! You can get some killer keyboard sounds without the tracking issues of old guitar synths..
  5. Mainly play clean myself but I have these 3 pedals and this vintage ibanez UE405 multi effect rack with foot switch. The ibanez overdrive is the 30th anniversary reissue and the two electro harmonix pedals are vintage.
  6. Used to own that album but sold it at least 10-15 years ago...would be curious if I'd enjoy it more right now?
  7. Led Zeppelin "I" (Atlantic, 2014 3LP expanded remaster) I think I bought the cassette of this in grade 5 or 6 back in 1982 or so and this new remaster sounds pretty awesome right now..
  8. Embryo "steig aus" (Brain, Germany)
  9. Jan Garbarek/Bobo Stenson quartet "dansere" (ECM/Trio, Japan)
  10. Great find!
  11. I've been debating buying this because I have a nice sounding mint mono original as well as the Japanese SHM cd, but I'll probably cave in and buy it when they release the Dolphy and Hancock titles this month...
  12. It was marketed as a companion to Strange Strings, but it was recorded the year before and with a much smaller group. But similiar musical territory?
  13. That one is outtakes from "strange strings", right? I think that's why I didn't buy that one because I'm not a huge fan of "strange strings"; an interesting album to hear once maybe but...
  14. Looks like this rarity has been reissued by "Be!" Records in Germany; the same label that reissued Barney Wilen's "zodiac" album recently. I used to own the original over a decade ago but sold it as I found the sound quality quite poor and the music quality rather uneven. The label says they cleaned up the tapes for this reissue so I would be curious to compare it to the CDR I made of my original...still on the fence though because it's a bit of a mixed bag musically.
  15. How is it? Based on one listening - good, not essential. It's very much in the vein of "Pathways to Unknown Worlds," which is from the same period - it's four improvisations by the Arkestra, rather than "composed" pieces by Ra. It's perfect for someone in my situation - I have lots of Sun Ra records and CDs, including much (most?) of what was issued during his lifetime. The plethora of "new" live recordings issued in the past few years have seemed overwhelming to me, and I've had no desire to keep up with them. But a "new" studio recording, even if it's not the best Ra I've ever heard, is very welcome. If that makes sense to anyone here, I would recommend this album. If you don't have the Sun Ra "essentials," pass on this and get those first. I bought this too, and like Jeffcrom, have many other Sun Ra Lps and CDs. I found side one to be pretty meandering and a bit weak but on side two some sparks start to fly.
  16. I love the first album! The first 4 Caravan albums are my favorites, and I do not own anything beyond those.
  17. The most money I spent on a CD was $50 for the original jewel case Japanese CD version of "distant voices" by Steve Lacy with Yuji Takahashi and Takehisa Kosugi. A few years later it was reissued on a Japanese mini-LP sleeve so I bought that reissue for $17 and sold my earlier version for around $50! As far as LPs...well I'm sad to say I've spent up to $500 *but* I've also sold a lot of albums for big profits which I use to justify my more expensive purchases!
  18. I bought the "pants off" 7" when it came out and by the time the full length came out I was sorta done with rock. Probably should check it out..
  19. Good album. Now I'm getting nostalgic for the music of my youth! Maybe I should pull out "umber" by Bitch Magnet tonight
  20. Cool album! I got the mini-LP CD some years back...
  21. Neither can I...I guess the thing is I've been enjoying a lot of these recent Japanese SHM blue note CDs and they sound incredible...really analog sounding. So when I played this CD I wasn't as impressed...
  22. Compared to what.....? Compared to the FLAC download I previously had. I'm not saying it doesn't sound "good"...
  23. I wasn't blown away by the sound of this CD myself...
  24. More of the same, plus Steve Lacy, Raps. Bismillah Khan, an awesome shenai player, is on deck--if the kids fall asleep I can listen to it. My copy of "capers" is a brown gatefold sleeve; not sure which is the 1st issue. Regardless, it's excellent music!"Blue Train" is done and both the wife and kids are asleep but I'm wide awake. A perfect time to break out something different: Bernard Parmegiani "chronos" (philips prospective, France). Sounding killer on my new Paradigm speakers...
