  1. Art ensemble of Chicago "nice guys" (ECM, Germany)...a recent upgrade on my slightly crackly American pressing that didn't have the foldout poster insert
  2. I have that same one hooked up to my computer as a second turntable. Would not recommend using the stock cartridge though...
  3. Check out used Systemdek IIx turntables as well...a very simple design and yields excellent sound. I upgraded my tonearm to a rega RB300 and bought a Bellari tube amp to run it through...still even with these extras the whole package cost me not much more then $500.
  4. I have an AT440mla which is superb
  5. Agreed. I avoid record store day like the plague. False collectables indeed... However, no offense to you as a record store owner, I've pretty much stopped going to the record stores around my area at least for the last few years and I've think they've pretty much been dead for longer then that. It used to be fun finding hidden gems in the racks...now if you even are lucky enough to find something good it's priced at or above "eBay" prices - usually above! Didn't know about this..I still have all their 7"s - anything special about this reissue? Did you ever hear the Butterglove 7"? That was cool too..
  6. Yup home delivery is on the chopping block here...Canada post is in a sad state for sure.
  7. Yup I'm in the same boat. Preordered it months ago on amazon UK and still have not received it...I'm in Canada and usually airmail from the UK takes a week at the most...this sucks! Waiting on another box from the UK that was sent over 3 weeks ago and still has not arrived...apparently the postal service can raise rates and lower service at the same time
  8. I preordered mine from the UK as well a few months back...still has not shown up! Not a big deal though because I'm currently making my way through the Jack Johnson box despite having it for years!
  9. Ray Russell 4tet "Turn Circle" (CBS Realm Jazz, UK)...mintish copy but again a few crackles audible....darn these realm jazz pressings!! Anthony Braxton "Four compositions 1973" (Denon, Japan)
  10. It might be difficult to near impossible to reissue, but you would do very well with a reissue of "Hum Dono" by Amancio D'Silva. It has never been reissued on CD...vinyl goes upwards of $1000 consistently, and *many* people are after a copy. Musically it may not be as brilliant as "Dogon AD' by Hemphill for example..or even as good as D'Silva's own debut "Integration"(which did see a limited CD reissue), but it definitely has a big audience hungry for a quality CD reissue! Myself included.
  11. I can try July but having never done one before I have no idea what's involved?
  12. I agree; it's a fantastic album I should pull out more often...
  13. Hmm well if I just had to pick one then I guess it would be "kind of blue". One of the first jazz albums I bought and now I have probably at least 6 or 7 different versions/pressings of it. I know it inside/out and it still gives me pleasure when I play it.
  14. And now: Jan Garbarek "dansere" (ECM/trio, Japan). One of my favorite Garbarek albums with the brilliant Bobo Stenson and one of the best rhythm sections ever IMHO.
  15. Great topic and nice to see this thread renewed. For me these seem to be the records I spin the most over the years since buying jazz records back in 1991 or so. John Coltrane "ballads", "a love supreme" Ornette Coleman "shape of jazz to come" Miles Davis "kind of blue" Thelonious Monk "monks music" Steve Lacy "morning joy" Ralph Towner "solstice" Terje Rypdal "descendre" Jan Garbarek "Afric pepperbird" Tomasz Stanko "balladyna" Art ensemble of Chicago "people in sorrow" Anthony Braxton "five pieces 1975" Don Cherry "complete communion" Jackie McLean "destination out" Sonny Clark "leapin and lopin" Edward Vesala "nan madol" Kenny Wheeler "deer wan" Sun Ra "jazz in silhouette" Mal Waldron "Tokyo bound" John Surman "such winters of memory" Barre Phillips "mountainscapes" Albert Mangelsdorff "never let it end" Eberhard Weber "yellow fields" Pharaoh Sanders "tauhid" Oliver Nelson "blues and the abstract truth" Charles Mingus "presents Charles Mingus" Eric Dolphy "outward bound" There's a lot more but off the top of my head these are probably the albums I have played the most out of my collection or the ones I usually pick if wanting to play an album by the artist in question.
  16. I regret selling those Schlippenbach Lps on Po Torch...used to have them all. In leaner times I needed the money; kept most of his FMP albums though. I just finished "three nails left" inspired by this thread...have not played this in ages and it's a great album too. Currently: Richard Beirach "methuselah" (trio, japan)
  17. "Ballads" and "with Duke Ellington" are some of my most played Coltrane albums actually which is sort of weird because I love all sorts of free jazz. I love them so much I spent a bit of dough tracking down mint original vinyl issues...absolutely sublime music.
  18. Sante Palumbo "sway" (cipiti, Italy). Killer Italian jazz rock fusion from 1973 Breaking Circus "the ice machine" (homestead, USA)...starting to dip into some early likes from 1986 Bad Brains "rock for light" (PVC, USA)...started listening to this band in 1988...this is a much older lp and well worn...classic stuff I never get tired of hearing
  19. Stan Tracey "perspectives" (Columbia, UK). Today's arrival from France...finally found this for a reasonable price but upon playing it almost all of track 1 had an audible crackle every revolution. I really hate vinyl some days...looks like I might have to try and return this one.
  20. 4 figures on a few lots; wonder who ended up with them...
  21. Masabumi Kikuchi "all about dancing mist" 2LP (Philips, Japan) w/Joe Henderson and Terumasa Hino guesting on a few tracks
  22. Rosenboom put out some interesting albums in the 1970s. I recommend the two-piano one with J.B. Floyd. He was also on the Mike Douglas show when John Lennon and Yoko Ono were co-hosts. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e-OaumT8w8o That's some heeeaaaaavvvvvyyy sheeeat man! Haha... I used to own a few David Rosenboom albums...still have his "Brainwave music" CD reissued on the Japanese EM Records label. Interesting stuff for sure...
  23. Newport Rebels (Candid mono, USA) Norma Winstone "somewhere called home" (ECM, Germany)
  24. Inspiration & Power Free Jazz Festival (Trio, Japan) 2LP document from 1973...some amazing stuff on here from all the usual Japanese heavyweights(Togashi, Sato, Takayanagi, etc...)
