  1. Masahiko Sato "Samadhi" (Express, Japan) excellent trio date with Gary Peacock and Motohiko Hino Tokk Ensemble Tokyo "s/t" (RCA Victor, Japan) Mal Waldron "Spanish Bitch" (Globe, Japan)
  2. Dexter Gordon "Go" (music matters 33rpm reissue, USA). Really impressed by all the titles in this series so far...incredible sound and pressing quality. ZAO "kawana" (RCA, France)
  3. Does anyone have the Sato "trinity" reissue cd on this board? Just curious to know if it had a bonus track not on the lp...
  4. Does the Sato have a bonus track? I'm thinking of buying this one but only if it has extra material not on the original LP. My album is a mint Japanese Enja pressing so I don't really want to bother otherwise! Another similar Waldron enja ("Hard Talk") from around that same time is also excellent. With Manfred Schoof (cornet) and Steve Lacy from 1974, highly recommended. But back to the sextet tracks from "Moods" -- special mention goes to trombonist Hermann Breuer who (at least on this recording) has one of THE most exciting, aggressive tones I think I've ever heard on his instrument. Really something special, and a name I don't know otherwise. "Hard Talk", "One Upmanship", and "Moods" are all absolutely brilliant and must-haves in my opinion! Lacy and Waldron always sound beautiful together and all 3 of these records sound amazing too...just last week I was playing a Japanese pressing of "Hard Talk" on RCA Victor/Enja that just sounded incredible on my turntable...
  5. I have a Japanese pressing of this; agreed odd context for Brand
  6. Tonight's episode saw Lisa and her friend in a record store...the background music was Oliver Nelson's "blues and the abstract truth"! Also in the record racks were albums like "my favorite things", "out to lunch", "the sidewinder", and "social studies" by Carla Bley...pretty cool!
  7. Wow. Just playing the Joe Daley "At Newport 63" LP now which I just bought again after selling my old copy over 15 years ago. I think because my first copy was quite beat up I did not play it much..if at all. Anyway as I play this album tonight( a M- mono copy) I am surprised by the cheesy track announcements and fake audience noise mixed in. However, beyond those quibbles, the music is just sublime. Count me in as a buyer when you get this reissue CD out. I'd love to hear extra material from this band...
  8. Mal Waldron "hard talk" (RCA victor, Japan)
  9. Is that ICP10? I have that one..have not spun that in nearly 10 years or more. Right now: Masahiko Sato "Switched On East" (Columbia, Japan) Actually not quite as cheesy as I expected..this is pretty enjoyable, but I am a sucker for fat analog synth sounds Next: Masahiko Sato "Holography" (Columbia, Japan) Sold my reissue of this ages ago, and just recently found an original pressing so I look forward to hearing this again.
  10. Great now I can dump all my mint blue note original LPs in the garbage!
  11. I used to own the original LP and CD but got rid of both over the years - never got taken with it and I'm a huge fan of Jef Gilson and absolutely adore the Shihab reissue LPs I have like "seeds" and "summer dawn".
  12. Just ordered about 5 discs that were released in late April. I have not received them yet but was curious if anyone on this board has heard these yet? I have an older ECM Japanese SHM cd of Art Lande's "rubissa patrol" that sounds really nice and I'm curious to hear what "my song", "return to forever" and "witchi tai to" will sound like on this format. It's hard to imagine they would sound much better then my mint German vinyl but after being so impressed with the recent SHM Blue Note and Prestige reissues I could not resist ordering these and a few more to hear how they will sound!
  13. I saw him live in 1993...amazing show. Provoked such a reaction...when he started to preach a bunch of so-called "open minded" hipsters got out of their seats and stormed out of the venue. That was the second batch of people who left. The first batch vacated their seats as soon as Gayle started to play. It was a free show so I think many people present had no idea what they were going to hear. Ill never forget it!
  14. I agree. "Hum Dono" is good but not amazing..for my money "integration" is the stronger of the two but that has seen a CD reissue already. There is, however, huge demand for "hum dono" so a reissue of it would do very well and make a lot of people happy! Myself included.
  15. Yeah I found it a bit more engaging then their duo LP on SAJ....
  16. Evan Parker & Barry Guy "Tai Kyoku" (Jazz & Now, Japan)
  17. That Morgue LP gets under my skin. Can't believe Evidence went for such serious coin the other day. It's a great date but used to be much more affordable. Guess it all was at one point... Yeah I noticed "evidence" skyrocketing lately..I lucked out on a really cheap copy around 10 years ago. "Torments" has eluded me for ages until I recently found a copy via a Japanese friend...sadly not so cheap but not as bad as it's few eBay appearances in the last 15 years.
  18. Steve Lacy "Evidence" (New Jazz purple label, USA) Steve Lacy "Torments" (Morgue, Japan)
  19. Ed Curran Quartet "Elysa" (Savoy, USA) Hank Mobley "Soul Station" (Music Matters 33rpm reissue, USA) I caved in and bought this despite having the excellent sounding XRCD version
  20. Way too hard but I'll pick 4 I've played to death over the years: Jackie McLean "destination out" Oliver Nelson "blues and the abstract truth" John Coltrane "Coltrane" Eric dolphy "outward bound"
  21. Great choices though I do not have the Ellington title
  22. And now: Evan Parker/Derek Bailey/Han Bennink "topography of the lungs" (incus, UK) I think it's better then the "kwanza" lp on baystate...but only by a bit
