  1. After a long layoff, I just ordered Jazztet plus 4 selects - Tyner, Pullen, Weston and the first Hill.
  2. Heck Freezes Over
  3. Every time you listen to an ECM record, Keith Jarrett cries. And cries. And groans. And cries. By the way, I'm a big Keith Jarrett music fan. All in fun.
  4. Just wish he hadn't showed up for Cecil Taylor's Hard Driving Jazz date. Good player, 100% wrong context.
  5. Why complain about suspected spammers when you can send them quivering in fear to the corner just by being yourselves! Shadows and Light does not suck. Deal with it.
  6. Thanks for the recommend, good flow, nice edge and the most enjoyable Joe Morris I've heard yet. Liking him on bass on the new Matthew Shipp too.
  7. Ah, yes, The Green Leaves of Summer. The one with Ellington, Monk and Hamp ; )
  8. Luciana Souza is a fine singer. When someone with few posts praises a new album and provides a link, people often suspect they are being paid to promote the artist, so be prepared for some snide comments. I hope her new Verve meets the high standards she has set with Sunnyside Records.
  9. Downloaded and have listened a couple times. I like it. At the very beginning purists may be concerned as synths, vocal interjections and a bit of turntable wrap around a funky bass clarinet groove, but when Geri Allen and then Wallace come in, the modernizations are mild flavorings wrapped around a seventies hard-bop groove that wouldn't be out of place on a Woody Shaw or Lee Morgan album. Tracks two to four are in the early electric Miles neighborhood. Track eight's melody is maddeningly familiar, I finally figure out that it's Sly Stone, and a look at the track titles confirms - it's Stand! If anything, too tasteful. Very nice but makes no attempt to match the original's exuberance. Some impressive unison playing highlights the appropriately flashy closer, Bud Powell's Un Poco Loco.
  10. I believe there's a Tommy Flanagan date called The Cats that also features Trane (the human).
  11. Anybody heard this one yet? Geri Allen's on it, so I'll probably grab from eMusic soon.
  12. Hmmm. I generally get Ken Vandermark and don't get Joe Morris. You've got me curious, and it is on eMusic.
  13. I have the LP Innovations on the Discovery label and it features Jack simultaneously playing acoustic and electric piano. I like it, but not as much as Something Personal or Ramblin'. I'd probably upgrade if MP3s or CD were available.
  14. I hope eMusic gets it fairly quickly too. They have the earlier Pi releases.
  15. I do both. Hard disks are so cheap now that there is no reason to delete anything from your computer, but 90% of my listening is CD/CDrs and 10% is my 60 gb (and stuffed) Creative MP3 player.
  16. To me, Max has always been about melody on the drums. I think of him more as a singer than a dancer or marcher. Live, it always astonished me just how much music he could get out of the hi-hat. He also feeds my jones for the dramatic.
  17. Any comments on John Shiurba - 5x5 1.2=A? Curious about anything with Anthony Braxton as a sideman.
  18. I'd pay better money to hear him give it a go, in either case!
  19. Got Frequency and Exploding Star Orchestra from eMusic, very nice!
  20. Got Frequency and Exploding Star Orchestra from eMusic, very nice!
  21. Andrew Hill and the Jazzpar Octet + 1 Von Freeman - Young and Foolish Karin Krog and Steve Kuhn - Together again Yoshimi and Mats (Gustafsson) Still working my way through the David Murray Black Saints
  22. I'm sure I've said this elsewhere, but hear Schnabel on the first movement of the Hammerklavier. Thunderous force, makes other interpretations seem careful and delicate by comparison. Three of four 2 cd volumes of the Schnabel cycle are on emusic, but the Classica d'Oro is still tempting.
  23. So does anybody have any help for the author regarding this line? We do not know whether Wilburn Green, Victor Sproles, Bo Bailey, James Scales, Jon Hardy, Billy Mitchell, George Hudson, or Clyde Williams are still on the planet.

Same guy who played on the five Manne Blackhawk volumes, right?
