  1. Well, I wouldn't say "no one else" but, he is certainly developing cult status rapidly! Well, you have discovered the humor/irony in being everybody's favorite unknown piano player. Difficult to sneak one by the encyclopedic knowledge of Organissimo board members!! But we kept trying!
  2. Harbor Freeway 5 PM from the Blue Note Something Personal would be my choice for his greatest track. I remember three different early Blindfold tests had Jack's dates as a leader, everybody here thinks of him as this great piano player that no one else knows about. Thanks, Jack.
  3. I already have the superb one disk Ichiban anthology, but I just sent off for the 3 disk Rhino Handmade box set above. It includes a jazz oriented set with Oliver Nelson which is omitted from the Ichiban disk. Her Many Rivers to Cross is a thing to behold. Wish she stayed around.
  4. There is never an advance warning about as specific label, but I think the conditions of membership make it clear this can happen without notice. The labels would generally prefer not to provoke a downloading frenzy if they are departing.
  5. Neither this nor the Paris set seems to match the timings for the Pablo Live Trane set. Wonder if DG lurks here anymore?
  6. At the risk of being told to buy my own freaking Lord or Bruyninckx, I'll ask. What are the Desmond sessions with Elvin. And what's a henway?
  7. Tribute has been paid to da bastids. Awaiting teleportation.
  8. Much love for Death and the Flower here. The deeply felt, meditative Prayer features just Jarrett and Haden. A Great Bird is propulsive and melodically memorable. The title track unfolds slowly and has moments of great beauty. What a band.
  9. Buy 1, get unlimited at 1.99 +shipping/handling. Not quite unlimited if you order online, can't add any more after about 65. I grabbed bunches of Blue Note's, it's not paranoia if EMI really was just sold to greedy corporate raiders!!
  10. Betty Carter and Carmen McRae recorded it together!
  11. I'm happy with my 60gb Creative, except that it's filled up, and I'm kinda tempted to get another. My big question is this: will the 160gb iPod ever refuse to load or play a valid mp3? I know that if you get your MP3 from iTunes, you might not be able to move it to your Creative, but does the iPod insist on any kind of DRM in order to play mp3s?
  12. Hello Mary Lou Goodbye Cash
  13. eMusic has a large Thomas Chapin selection, all of the box as indivdual albums plus the more mainstream Arabesque dates and Machine Gun. Sky Piece is wonderful.
  14. After a long layoff, I just ordered Jazztet plus 4 selects - Tyner, Pullen, Weston and the first Hill.
  15. Heck Freezes Over
  16. Every time you listen to an ECM record, Keith Jarrett cries. And cries. And groans. And cries. By the way, I'm a big Keith Jarrett music fan. All in fun.
  17. Just wish he hadn't showed up for Cecil Taylor's Hard Driving Jazz date. Good player, 100% wrong context.
  18. Why complain about suspected spammers when you can send them quivering in fear to the corner just by being yourselves! Shadows and Light does not suck. Deal with it.
  19. Thanks for the recommend, good flow, nice edge and the most enjoyable Joe Morris I've heard yet. Liking him on bass on the new Matthew Shipp too.
  20. Ah, yes, The Green Leaves of Summer. The one with Ellington, Monk and Hamp ; )
  21. Luciana Souza is a fine singer. When someone with few posts praises a new album and provides a link, people often suspect they are being paid to promote the artist, so be prepared for some snide comments. I hope her new Verve meets the high standards she has set with Sunnyside Records.
  22. Downloaded and have listened a couple times. I like it. At the very beginning purists may be concerned as synths, vocal interjections and a bit of turntable wrap around a funky bass clarinet groove, but when Geri Allen and then Wallace come in, the modernizations are mild flavorings wrapped around a seventies hard-bop groove that wouldn't be out of place on a Woody Shaw or Lee Morgan album. Tracks two to four are in the early electric Miles neighborhood. Track eight's melody is maddeningly familiar, I finally figure out that it's Sly Stone, and a look at the track titles confirms - it's Stand! If anything, too tasteful. Very nice but makes no attempt to match the original's exuberance. Some impressive unison playing highlights the appropriately flashy closer, Bud Powell's Un Poco Loco.
  23. I believe there's a Tommy Flanagan date called The Cats that also features Trane (the human).
  24. Anybody heard this one yet? Geri Allen's on it, so I'll probably grab from eMusic soon.
  25. Hmmm. I generally get Ken Vandermark and don't get Joe Morris. You've got me curious, and it is on eMusic.
