  1. And in response, one of the most viewed videos on YouTube (over 12 million views): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QjA5faZF1A8
  2. You could hook a Talk Box up to a Hammond but it would require a line-output of some sort. When I moved my B3 I used a moving blanket to cover it and then a fitted cover that I bought from eBay. Now that I use the Hammond XK System, I have road cases for the organ manuals.
  3. I think felser is in the Top 5 of Un-Hyperbolous Persons on the Internets. RIP JB.
  4. Mine are all old ones, too. But the new ones are a bit different. I think it is a better idea, although it is always convenient on the gig to plug in the power cord for the organ, plug the organ into the Leslie, and GO!
  5. I just got my dessert, which I've been waiting all day for.
  6. Well, the roast lamb was a huge success! We had our butcher de-bone the leg and boy she was a big one! Over 9 lbs, to be exact. I used the recipe linked in my previous post (made a mixture of kosher salt, ground pepper, thyme, and rosemary and slathered the meat with that, plus poked holes here and there and shoved garlic cloves in them) but I decided to do a slow roast. 325 degrees for about 3 hours and it was almost perfect. It actually got a little too done for my taste because I was waiting for the turkey breasts to finish cooking in a counter-top roaster. The lamb took about 45 minutes less that I thought it would. But it was still delicious and my family loved it. Everyone commented on how good it was and only one turkey breast was eaten. They were just small, 3 lbs breasts and we made two of them. The lamb was 2/3 gone, so I think it was a hit and we may have started a new tradition for Christmas. I am exhausted, having been on my feet since about 9am preparing food and entertaining but it was a fun day. Zora got absolutely spoiled by her grandparents. I remember those days of not only getting presents from mom and dad but also from grandma and grandpa, before my grandpa retired from GM and they couldn't afford to buy us presents anymore (plus they have an incredibly large number of grandchildren by that time). She got to play with her cousins and eat way too many cookies and just had a ball. This is probably the best Christmas I can remember since being a kid and it is because it is such a joy to experience the holiday through Zora's eyes. I hope everyone had an equally good Christmas! May 2007 be even better yet!
  7. Actually, the new Leslies are self-powered, with their own cord that plugs into the wall. It actually makes more sense... less noise in the audio signal lines and it is safer.
  8. That was pretty weird, alright. How did you get contacted for that gig, Jim?
  9. I'm gonna have to go with Bill Fenohr's opinion on "Smokin' Out Loud". Haven't heard the new one, but I like LeDonne's playing.
  10. Things have been going well. The weird pain in my hip and leg is pretty much gone. Today is the first day I have not taken any pain medication and so far so good. I just tried sitting in my van for the first time to see if I could go get my hair cut (I need a hair cut badly) and it wasn't so bad. Sitting in the barber's chair might be a different matter altogether. Root Doctor has a gig tonight. My worry is that it is an hour drive away. I don't think I'll be able to sit in the car that long. Sitting is the worst so far.
  11. Refine!
  12. Yes, but the true innovator often resorts to cliches of his own making. And pretty soon everyone is using them. And thus it goes 'round in circles.
  13. Yeah, it is a drag the audio from the camera isn't better. How difficult would it have been to run a board feed to the camera instead of just letting the camera's (probably) limited-range mic(s) pick everything up?
  14. The internets!
  15. Funny stuff. Catchy tune, too. Maybe an organissimo cover?
  16. Cavs fans are pretty shitty, too, imo. They started booing the team when they got down. Way to help spur a comeback, ya wankers.
  17. A LOT! The better question is how many I've actually listened to. The answer is probably 10 out of the 60+.
  18. Have you seen the three videos on Youtube?
  19. I have this on vinyl and CD. I paid for both.
  20. 'Sheed really needs to go into the post more. Maybe he's old and doesn't feel like being on the receiving end of all that contact anymore, but the Pistons have plenty of guys that can shoot jumpers and 3-pointers. RIP, Chauncey, and Tayshaun can all reliably shoot the 3. 'Sheed should go low. Good game last night, though. I think the cat is out of the bag on Maxiell. I'm glad he's finally getting some playing time as he looked great in the pre-season.
  21. Yup, it's the other guy's fault. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. Well, Sangry's assessment is probably more fair (ie, that it is a team effort), but when I see post after post talking about the latest re-issue of 40+ year old recordings and posts asking whether they should go see live jazz (like the one asking whether to go see a group with Scott Kinsey in it... an amazing keyboardist doing new things with the music) it is just a bit disheartening. It's taken 3 years for some people on here to get hip to Bill Heid and the guy is playing fairly traditional organ jazz. I'm not trying to point fingers or single anybody out, but to me, the jazz of today should sound different than the jazz of the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s. Completely and radically different? Not necessarily. But what is the point of recording another standard for the 1000th time? Unless you're doing something to make it your own. I'm not black, I wasn't born in 1928, I didn't grow up in 1930s Philadelphia, I didn't experience that era in time, so why should I sound like Jimmy Smith? Sure, I learned to play like him because he is the original master of the instrument and I love his music, but I sure hope that I'm developing my own voice and style on the instrument that comes from my experiences. And some listeners don't like that. They want to hear "The Sermon" for the 1000th time.
  22. I'd guess they have tons of good live material but they think another studio date will best represent the Organissimo they want to sell. It's more of a matter of having lots of nice live stuff, but not much actual NEW tunes on those recordings. The live stuff is mainly tunes from the first two records and various covers. We don't want to do a record of covers (for numerous reasons, but the one is that it's expensive as far as copyrights are concerned) and there wasn't enough new original stuff to fill a disc. The second set of our gig at the Firefly back in April was really nice and is filmed as well. I need to go through the footage and see if it is good enough for a live DVD. Again, mostly covers, but we stretch out so there's only about 7 tunes in the hour-long set including that 15+ minute version of Pumpkin Pie that's on YouTube. I have been talking to my videographer about filiming the next Baker's date in January (on the 26th). We'll see what happens then. I also have 3 years worth of week-long gigs with Arno recorded that I haven't gone through yet. So there's plenty of live stuff in the "vault".
  23. Until Invision fixes this, or tells me why it isn't working like it should, that's the way it is. I suggest you use google, search for your phrase within quotations, and add organissimo.org/forum to the search. In other words, type this in google: "african high life" organissimo.org/forum
  24. Session in April, disc out in late summer, hopefully. I would like to include a DVD of some concert footage, maybe some studio stuff as well, but we'll see. It seems we're perpetually in debt and adding a DVD is just another couple thousand in the hole.
