  1. My B3 has a cherry finish. It's pretty tore up from the road. It used to be almost scratchless. There are pics of it within the photos on our main page: Organissimo.org The best one is probably the photos from the Clearwater Jazz Festival with Ron Blake. That is my B3 on stage. I also have a 1954 C2 that I've been using to record with. My dad and I refinished that one. It is also cherry.
  2. Yeah, ebony B3s are the shizzle. Shirley Scott had one.
  3. What's amazing about the cymbals is that Glenn Brown, the engineer, used Coles ribbon mics as the drum overheads. Ribbon mics are notoriously dark sounding mics, but I think his combination of placement, subtle EQ, and his mic pre-amps (he was running them through some classic Neve modules) made all the difference. We're going to try to do our next record in my home studio and have it mixed and mastered at Glenn's. We'll probably do a couple of tunes as tests... record them, and take them to Glenn's to hear the quality. If they don't stand up, however, we'll just have to bite the bullet and record the whole thing there again. We did one session back in October at Glenn's and he was using AKG C12's as the overheads! <drool!!> I'm a mic/gear nerd. Thanks for the comments, Jim. It means a lot. And makes me want to work harder on the next one!
  4. (((JoeG___=+ ' : Implantation of Operation 'Buy Our CD' successful... 1IUE0011>>>> Move to PHASE II :rsly:
  5. Somebody needs to review the Organissimo disc...
  6. Does that work? I didn't know this board was cell-phone friendly.
  7. This was asked before. I believe the answer was "from their website".
  8. My dream organ was on Ebay a couple weeks ago... A 1954 Hammond B2 with a Leslie 21H and a Leslie 31H... all for an opening bid of $1995. It closed at $2155. That is a damn steal for a Hammond and two Leslies. I wanted to bid on it so badly, but my wife said, "You already have four organs. What do you need another for?" Oh well.
  9. I just listen to Ray Charles a lot...
  10. I feel the same way about Hammonds.
  11. I think I'll put my copy up tonight with a Buy It Now of $50. Can I get another copy, Chuck?
  12. Paul, I work during the day sometimes in Ann Arbor (like today!). 120 mile commute for me, too. We should do lunch sometime.
  13. Finally getting a chance to listen now... DIG IT!!!! I wanna see more pics from the session. I'm curious about microphones and placement and such.
  14. Just finished two days of intense work on our soon-to-be nursery. We had to strip off 6-8 layers of wallpaper. The only thing that helped taking it off was steam, so we rented one of those wallpaper steamers. It still was a ton of work. It would not come off in sheets... only in little chunks. But I got it off all the walls. Now to do the ceiling, which has three layers.... yuk. I will post some pics later.
  15. They should've.... oh well. Go Pistons! The Pistons are going to win the East this year and, depending on who they're up against, could have a very good shot at taking it all.
  16. I didn't watch the game. Bummer, but the Pistons just trounced the Nets, so all's well in NBA land! MSU will be much better next year. They have all their main guys returning.
  17. Notice what's on the computer monitor...
  18. Isn't Row Row Row Your Boat in 4?
  19. Motets and madrigals. Fun stuff. One of my favorite composers of that era: Palestrina Rooster, I'm sure you've heard/seen the Tallis Scholars?
  20. Like Jim said, don't let the math fool you. Yes, 6 eigths notes equal the same amount of time as 3 quarter notes, but it's more of a feel issue. As I mentioned, "El Paso" feels more like a "two feel". In other words, try singing the first line to yourself. Down in the west Texas town of El Paso The accents fall on "down", "west", "town" and "Pa". Down in the west Texas town of El Paso "Down in the west Texas" is all one phrase, with two accents... thus a "two" feel, thus two sets of three, thus 6/8. At least that's how I hear it.
  21. Brahms' Requiem is one of my favorites as well. Had the pleasure of performing it with a 200+ choir and full orchestra at Michigan State. Fun fun. I miss singing in choir. My high school buddy (who I met in choir) and I talk about that quite a bit. We should join MSU's Community Choir. They were part of the afore-mentioned Brahms bash. They are a really fine choir. But I'm not too fond of it's director. He once made fun of me in front of the elite choir at MSU (which he also directed) while I wasn't there... I sang in an a capella men's group at the time and we sang a lot of pop stuff. He ragged on me because I sang in that group with a raised larynx. Like you're supposed to sing fuckin' Temptations with a classical technique... that would sound REAL HIP!!! Anyway... I hear ya, Rooster. Choir is fun. I loved being in small, 12 person mixed choirs with no accompiament.
  22. That's ok... my post was still wrong. MSU didn't beat Wisconsin this year at all. I don't know what I was smokin'... Wisconsin is tough. I can see them making the Final Four. Next year I think MSU is going to take it. They have everyone returning with the exception of some bench players that aren't too important. All the important people (Chris Hill, Torbert, Shannon Brown, Davis, etc.) will be back next year. I think they are going to light it up!
