  1. Must be some kind of a slugfest? I think the Fistival is something that happens at pornfests. Did ya really have to go there?
  2. Must be some kind of a slugfest?
  3. A Floridian complaining of heat? What's up with that Dan? I don't know when they make their final decisions about the lineup, but we will pass that on as soon as we know.
  4. We have gotten positive feedback from the Chicago jazz festival about the possibility of us performing there next year...
  5. A half-a-dozen jazz clubs would be 6 more than Lansing has. :rsly:
  6. Patricia, Actually I haven't been following this discussion as closely as I should be if I'm going to be making any comments. My bad. I just assumed that it was more along the lines of what Dan said, that it was more about the online friendships you all have fostered since before this website existed. We'd love to play for y'all. It would be a blast. But where? We almost never play in Lansing, believe it or not. It's tough to get a gig in this town if you're not a vocal/blues band. There is one venue that we could rent (or perhaps book a ticketed performance at), and it would be a great place to hang as well: Creole Gallery. That just might work. Well, that would be fun, and it would provide a focal point for such a gathering. Which would be a nessesity because, frankly, there's not much else going on in Lansing. Discuss....
  7. In other words, Joe just wants to drink beer and look for chicks. I can understand this completely. While my own motto has always been "have mandolin will travel", sometimes I just want to drink beer and look for chicks. See? Catesta understands!
  8. Does anyone else find this to be a rather odd statement? What exactly is he saying? He makes it sound as if there's some great purpose here, as if music will cease to exist if they don't do this merger. Why should we be impressed with this "committment" when their best known contributions to the music business, cited in the article, are Britney and Beyonce? I don't get it.
  9. Thanks Dan, I was beginning to wonder if I had missed something... Don't get me wrong, I love seeing board members in the audience at a gig, but working a performance into the proposed hang adds a whole new layer of logistics to deal with.
  10. Affirmative
  11. According to Google:
  12. I went over to Sting.com (for the first time) to try to find the drummer's name. No good. It's all about Sting, and nothing about the band.
  13. Yeah, I was into Tribal Tech in the mid 90's; saw them live three times. One thing I noticed, the crowd was getting smaller each time. But you're right about the closet musician thing; that was definitely their crowd. With like one girl in the audience. The second concert of the three was, for me, very exciting. I came away from that one feeling very encouraged to take my own music more seriously. I think that Scott and Gary wrote some good tunes, and they are great players, and not just technically. Do I listen to them anymore? Well, no. I don't think it's evil; I've simply moved on. I'm trying to remember what else I was listening to at that time... Scofield's fusion records are good, with Dennis Chambers on drums. Also Ronald Shannon Jackson, especially Red Warrior. Not exactly fusion, but Henry Threadgill's Too Much Sugar For A Dime is pretty hard rockin, with Gene Lake on drums (who also played with Screaming Headless Torsos). Allan Holdsworth is amazing, but his songwriting isn't something that usually grabs me. His soloing has taken my breath away at times, and in small doses.
  14. So what is our topic, exactly?
  15. A couple of points reminded me of that Metheny interview we listened to the other night, especially the fact that despite all this technology we have, you still have to have music that works in the first place. And you need to be able to perform it! I was suprised to read that he had been involved with Stephen Hill. Loved his comments about MTV, too.
  16. I didn't know about Burt Reynolds! Re: Malcolm X, he briefly attended Mason High School (as did Jim and I, albeit 7 years apart), a fact which was completely unknown to me until after I graduated. You would think they might mention that!!!!
  17. Well, it's up to you to create the demand...
  18. Alphabetical by artist (or composer if it's classical), and multiple releases by a single artist are in chronological order. However, there's an ever growing random stack (actually 3 stacks) sitting next to my cd player...
  19. What's the story behind that photo?
  20. That was good Chaney.
  21. And one more for the road.
  22. Interesting! He certainly looks like a sweet guy in the photo. I hope he comes out.
  23. That gives me chills.
  24. I've been dreading a day like yours for a while now. I have a cat that's about 13 and he's been having some health problems. He's one of the coolest cats I've ever seen, and it's going to be a real drag when that day comes. This year my Dad had to put down both of his dogs. They were about 14 I think, and were old buddies. The first one to go wasn't a big suprise; she had lots of health problems and couldn't get around much near the end. But the second one was a total shock to me. She had been just as strong as ever the last time I was up there. I was also taken aback by the wave of grief that shot through my body when my Dad told me the news. We do get attached to them, for sure.
  25. Well, we just hit the nearest bar, which was a little hole in the wall. When asked what they had on tap, the answer was: Bud and Bud Light. I asked what they had in bottles. Bud, Bud Light, Killians-- "I'll take that!" I don't think they're getting on board the microbrew revolution any time soon.
