  1. Oh, that's rich. Here's an early favorite of mine: One of these guys has a butt-plug in. Guess which one.
  2. That clown kinda scares me. I went with a sentimental favorite, Snoopy. That scene in A Charlie Brown Christmas where Snoopy is mocking Lucy cracks me up every time.
  3. His last post was on the 5th of this month. I hope everything's cool.
  4. It's easy. It doesn't show any of the cards it shows you first the second time around. Good eye!
  5. BadaBing!
  6. Thanks, Tom! That's a thought provoking article, Larry. And written in '69? It holds up well.

Yeah, Man! A very detailed site. Thanks for posting.
  8. This new avatar comes as a bit of a relief, I must say. That last one was slowly destroying what little moral fiber I had left.
  9. No reason to get mad at people like this. All they are doing is revealing their ignorance. And in the earlier case of the pianist, who should know better, even more than that is revealed, such as a deep seated frustration with his or her own improvisational abilities (or the lack thereof). Even a fool is thought wise if he keeps silent, and discerning if he holds his tongue" (Prov. 17:28). The best thing to do with a statements like these, that are so wrong on several levels, is to look past the statement itself and try to figure out the thoughts that generated it. If you're so inclined.
  10. Looks like the reports are true: story It actually happened on the 7th.
  11. Damn. The same thing happened to Joe Lovano a couple of years ago. It's just stuff, but still, that's a tough blow.
  12. I was suprised to see the additional votes for St. Louis myself. But Dan's right, it's all hanging on news from Chicago at this point.
  13. Hell yes! I saw the extended Two Towers last Friday, and it was like a new movie! All the stuff that didn't make sense in the first release was now clear. I might go see the new one on Wednesday too.
  14. PLEASE! NO NUDE PHOTOS!!!!!
  15. I had the same thought!
  16. That must be one frustrated musician!
  17. This statement makes for an interesting contrast with your current signature, jacman. Talk about mixed messages!
  18. Randissimo and Jazzmoose hit on some good points. People in our culture, by and large, simply have not learned how to listen to and concentrate on something for extended periods of time. Except for tv. Music is everywhere in our lives, but the reason for that is usually to sell something. So we tend to tune it out. For trained musicians or a "sensitive layman" (to borrow a term from Bill Evans), there really is no such thing as "background music" most of the time. It's almost impossible for me to tune out piped in music in stores or waiting rooms, even if it's music I hate. That results in some rather unpleasant shopping or waiting room experiences, but on the plus side, I am, at the least, a discriminating consumer. If someone tries to pitch me with a lame jingle (or a lame cd), it's probably not going to work.
  19. I like your thinking on this, Ed. There are two jazz clubs that we play at in Ann Arbor. The challenge is booking a date at one or the other that gives everyone enough lead time to make travel arrangements. Normally we book one to two months in advance, which is not much lead time for such things.
  20. I think Saddam had every intention of starting a new career once Operation Desertsomething-or-other blew over. The $750K (U.S.) came about with some help from:
  21. 1) Chicago 2) Lansing 3) St. Louis
  22. This board is turning into one big continuous birthday party! What could be better? Have a good one, couw.
  23. JazzyPaul agreed to send me a cd-r of the Smiths tune, but I haven't received it yet. As far as a date of completion, it's hard to pin down with all that's going on right now. But the good news is that Jim has recently aquired some nice recording gear, so the home studio is up and running. He's still learning the ins and outs of the program, but already has it sounding pretty darn good. So actual recording should be starting very soon. Stay tuned, O Throng of Devoted Fans!
  24. Happy Birthday is another way of saying, "We're glad you were born!" B)
  25. That's some good stuff. I still like those Earthworks albums. Bill Conners is good, but since he plays with a Holdsworth-like tone, I figured I might as well listen to Holdsworth. Used to have that Torn disc but sold it. Haven't heard the rest. Ever heard that album that Frank Gambale did with Holdsworth called Truth in Shredding? Great song selection, horrible production. Allan really plays some nice solos, but I've never been a big fan of Gambale. Too L.A. sounding, even though he's Australian.
