You don't like Frisell and you don't like "Scho". I suppose next you're gonna tell us that you don't like Metheny. Then you shall feel my wrath!

The last name on the AMG list of "similar artists" is a little perplexing: Diane Witherspoon Annie Ross Helen Merrill Susannah McCorkle Chris Connor Patti Page Julie London Peggy Lee Rosemary Clooney Phil Upchurch There's an area at the top of the board reserved for organissimo discussions. The rest of the board is "anything goes". As far as jazz vocalists go, I've heard some very nice things here and there, but I'm not overly passionate about them either.

tonym, Interesting that you mention Mclaughlin. Bill has often said in interviews that, when he was young, he tried very hard, and in vain, to play like John. Finally he realized that he was just not capable of that kind of speed, and needed to chose another avenue. My recommendations are: Marc Johnson, Bass Desires John Scofield, Grace Under Pressure Bill Frisell, Where in the World John Zorn, Naked City In that order. p.s., Krantz is an unholy terror! Edit: For something closer to straight ahead jazz, try the Paul Motian album called Bill Evans.

Done! I just ordered it. That's what I'm talkin' about!

Wayne Shorter, Footprints Live. This has been lying around since I got it a few months back, and just tonight I read an article in a Jazztimes from a year ago about this group, which intrigued me enough to put it on. Wow! Incredible stuff. This will be getting heavy rotation for a few weeks, along with: Pat Martino, Live at Yoshi's another one that I've finally gotten around to listening to.

Oh sure: Monday morning quarterback!

Looking back, that period of trepidation turned out to be a major component of the fun! Just check out the size of this thread now Ed! It's a monster!! :rsmile:

I feel that way a little myself, but you just never know. I've been on the norahjones.info site trying to learn a little about mischiefboy, and now it's quite clear that he's small potatoes. He was talking a good game for a minute, catching me off guard. Or putting me on guard as it were. I had just never seen anyone behaving quite like that. As Use3D said, welcome to the internet!

That would be cool. You would all have to wear name tags that say, "Hi, my name is AfricaBrass" and so forth.
-
I wasn't aware of that. May you prevail to live long and prosper. Joe

Don't get those Alfredson women riled up!!

Thank you Rob. We very much appreciate your handling of this matter, and you are welcome to drop in anytime. Joe Gloss

Interesting. This album is the only place I've heard Robin, and frankly, I always skip the tunes she sings on. Always. Just can't seem to get into her warbley voice. Might just be me, though. There must be some reason Bill hired her.

Yeah Aggie87, I forgot about the Zorn stuff. I used to listed to Naked City quite a bit. Now that's some wild stuff. Soul, I can't comment on the two you mentioned, but like I said, I enjoy Nashville for sure. But if you aren't into bluegrass at all, you might want to listen to some samples first. The musicians on the disc are some of the top bluegrass/country cats, but it's Bill's warped take on that music. Some really nice stuff in my opinion.

Bill is one of a kind. Some of my favorite albums featuring him are Grace Under Pressure, with John Scofield, Bill Evans, with Paul Motian, and his own Nashville. I also have a couple albums that he put out in the early 90's, like Where in the World... which are pretty wild. Oh yeah, and the albums with Marc Johnson are classics, too. Bill has such a unique concept, and a very musical one at that. One of the greats for sure.

Neon, Please come back and chat with us when you are ready. You are well respected here and we are interested in your take on all this. Sincerely, Joe Gloss

I've been listening to Martino all this week. It must be the meds. Sangrey would be a blast. Too bad half the continent separates us. I guess we could record a track then send it to him, though it wouldn't be the same. Hey Jeff, you don't happen to live near San Francisco, do you? I have friends near there, and it would be fun to hang out the next time I visit. Joe

No doubt. Especially considering all of the truly evil and vile stuff you can find on the internet without much effort.

Don't you know it!!!

Dan, How about just not coming back for more abuse? It's not that you're a Christian, it's you personally. It's not that we don't respect anyone's rights, on the contrary, we respect everyone's rights. Everyone has a right to disagree, respectfully. You really have not been respectful. Jeff (africabrass) is a kind person who in the past has stood up for his beliefs and was shown due respect. It's a community here and as an outsider, you are expected to work your way in with courtesy, not barge in issuing threats. Yes, threats. I don't think it ever was a norahjones issue, because as so many have already stated, there was never any norah bashing going on, in fact most of the posts in this thread were in her defense! Ah.. forget it. Do what you want. You are obviously not a reasonable man. I refer you back to my opening statement. Goodbye. Joe

Where do you find these things?

That put things into perspective.

I would prefer to err on the side of caution at this point, as Dan (musicboy) has apparently withdrawn in an unsteady truce. Frankly, as far as the "industry" goes, organissimo is almost totally under the radar at this point, but I would certainly rather not see a change in our status under such negative circumstances. Here's hoping it will just blow over. What's Jim going to say when he gets back?
-
Yes, thank you Jim Dye. Your current avatar is the perfect statement for the moment.
