  1. Yes, CDBaby deserves our business. Organissimo recently switched from CDStreet, the reason for which is explained here, and we are very happy with the way they handle things.
  2. All right, lets hear your favorite euphemisms. From a Letterman top ten list: Shaking hands with Abraham Lincoln and my favorite, from Star Wars: Tending the 'droids.
  3. Peter Bernstein told us that his dream was to make a record with Lonnie and Elvin Jones! I hope it happens...
  4. All that talk about Colorado makes me want to go! I love that place!!!
  5. In the immortal words of Ozzy Osbourne: I love you all!! But you're all fucking mad!
  6. I don't imagine we'll see anything like that from him again!
  7. Of course we intend to come to NY. Thanks for the leads. And Portland is a goal for the future. My sister lived there for a year and loved it. She wants to move back when she finishes school. I've heard that the music scene there is quite healthy.
  8. Nice article in the Feb/March issue of JAM
  9. Here's the website. Looks like they are booked straight thru September, so we'd better move quick if we want it. Booking: send a tape or cd to: Black Cat PO Box 73338 Attn: Vicki Washington, D.C. 20056 The booking line is (202) 667-4527. Booking hours are Monday to Thursday 12:00-4:00pm Follow up with Vicki a week or two later. She can be reached at 202-667-4527 from noon to 4:00pm on Mondays to Thursday. We do not do booking by email. Edit: on the other hand, they have a scary clown there:
  10. Since there are some fellow Mclaughlin fans here, I thought I'd ask again if anyone knows where to find a copy of the Mediterrainian Concerto. I heard a little of this on the radio one night and loved it, but haven't been able to track it down. Thanks.
  11. Sure Dan, what's three hours when you've travelled that far? Thanks in advance for any hot tips, and we hope to see you (and everyone else whose city we play in) at the gig! Peter- thanks again. We definitely want to come to Philly!
  12. I have yet to pick this one up, in spite of the numerous rave reviews I've read. I also want to get My Goals Beyond, but right now I'm in a holding pattern as far as CD buying goes, since I'm buying a house.
  13. Stay Strong Soul Stream!
  14. Tennis is the only competitive sport I play (although cross country skiing and mountain biking with my Dad can get competitive), and like Jim Dye, I was always in the band, making fun of the jocks! Another outdoor activity I enjoy is recreational tree climbing. The summer is flying by; I'd better get out there this weekend! B)
  15. Derek Trucks. See my post in the "spiritual music" thread. I gave him a copy of Waiting for the Boogaloo Sisters last Tuesday. Hope he likes it.
  16. I don't know about this session being available elsewhere, but I do know that those studio selections are sublime. Love For Sale is definitive, IMO. Adderly shines here (Evans and Miles, too). And Coltrane on Stella... you just have to hear it. Sound is decent enough, probably could be improved.
  17. Woman to Yogi Berra: You look pretty cool tonight. Yogi: You don't look so hot yourself.
  18. I have a new one to add. Jim and I saw a great concert tonight: Karl Denson's Tiny Universe and the Allman Brothers. We were fortunate to get VIP passes, which let us watch all the action from stage right. Denson's group was excellent! Super tight, and great energy. We met the drummer, who is a really nice cat (and an awesome player). But the highlight for me was watching and listening to Derek Trucks playing with the ABB. I was reminded of a quote I read recently from Josh Redman: "Jazz isn't supposed to blow your mind, it's supposed to uplift you." Derek did both for me. Everything he played just felt so good to me; I walked away thinking, This is what music is supposed to feel like. And his stage presence is very cool; no screwed up rock guitarist faces, just very calm, present, and humble. That guy has a gift!
  19. Talk about the pot calling the kettle black!
  20. Yep, not bad. Some of those other releases looked interesting as well. Especially the one with Dave Stryker. But.... Peter Goldstein?????
  21. I just read a review of it, and found out that they do indeed take Tenderly at a rapid pace, so that comment was uninformed. Sorry!
  22. I know it's not on 32jazz, but I always thought this album cover and title were most uncreative. Get it?? Danger High Voltage? With the box and wires and stuff? And I like Tenderly, but I don't consider that to be high voltage music.
  23. Having seen the first two in the theaters (and on tv many times), I still have yet to see The Last Crusade. How does it compare?
