  1. Yes industry, time to move on. I guess the strip is designed to prevent someone at Musicland from opening the CD (after getting through the wrap) and stealing the CD. Hmmm. I thought these guys had a copy protection problem ...
  2. So far: histortical signficance - Parker/Diz - 19-9 I like it better - Coltrane/Monk - 16-12 Makes sense, I suppose. But it is AMAZING to have them both!!!
  3. Un-du also works, but does not appear to have Citrus Power ...
  4. That's OK, your crack* Organissimo news team is on the case. Looks like the end of October for the CD release. Hopefully. You and your local CD guy should hang out here. It's like CNN for jazz. *interpret the use of this word however you like ← Or C-SPAN 3 ...
  5. I'm not sure this poll means much to me, but what I do find interesting is how much happened in the 12 short years between the two. For context, look where we were in 1993 and "how far" we have come since
  6. Yes, I have suspected as much. But I figure I somehow eliminated the more adventurous end of the gene pool ...
  7. What catesta said. Personally I dislike the thought of X% of a contribution going to "administration" which you can't avoid with a "national" charity.
  8. Rats ... they are a whole different story ... nasty, yellow-toothed b*st*rds!!! Found one in the garbage can in the garage one day (a detached garage thank God) ... the can was empty and it was jumping up and down ... when I lifted the lid I damn near peed my pants. Still mice & (maybe) rats are better than snakes ... found a couple of them in the house over the years (same "living next to a creek issue").
  9. When they stop leaving those little turds everywhere I'll think about it. ← No kidding ... when I first see those things I say to myself "please be a poppyseed, please be a poppyseed". I think Soul Stream is correct. In this case best best defense is a strong defense I've owned three older houses and had mice in all of them. Mouse traps, loaded with peanut butter, do the trick every time. I have never caught more than 3-4 at once (say over a week period), which suggests I have a "small" problem versus infestation, which is always my real fear ...
  10. Yeah, Lewis Porter made a comment in the Carnegie Hall notes about two undated unreleased Monk/Trane tracks being available at Monk Zone. I could not find them, but did find this stuff. Update - found them - the tunes are Nutty and Ruby, My Dear. No recording data, but sure sounds like a club. Otherwise pretty good sound quality. http://monkzone.com/silent/monkzone.htm Go to Webcasts and scroll down to "LISTEN TO THELONIOUS PLAYING NUTTY AND RUBY, MY DEAR WITH JOHN COLTRANE (WORLD PREMIERE)"
  11. btw, has anyone noticed there are a ton of Monk live shows available for download here: http://www.theloniousrecords.com/Merchant2...tegory_Code=MP3 interesting, a bunch of bootlegs being sold for $9.99 each (MP3 files) by Thelonious Records ...
  12. I was on a 3 hour flight this am and listened through this a couple times on headphones (and some tracks 5-6 times). DAMN! GOOD LORD! This music, especially the 2nd set, justs grabs you and dares you not to enjoy the hell out of yourself. The two things that really struck me are how joyous and downright funky this music is. You can really sense the fun the musicians must have had that night - the whole thing sounds like an evening of good natured trash talking among very good, very clever friends. I could hardly resist the urge to dance in the aisles or otherwise just whoop it up! To me this stuff is deeply soulful and wickedly bluesy. I am surprised there was not any hollerin' from the crowd (but I guess it was a charity crowd). Listen to Bye-Ya, Blue Monk, both versions of Epistrophy - both Monk and Trane are absolutely killing in their solos and interplay. This is goosebumps, tears of joy stuff - and damn, isn't that what you want from music!. From both an intellectual and an ass-shaking perspective, this music is deeply satisfying
  13. There are 8 tracks, 4 of which are announcements, so the two music tracks per CD must be pretty long? There are no track timings at the online retailers ...
  14. It is currently the no. 1 seller at CD Universe (and no. 4 at Amazon). Say what you want about the power of advance marketing, but I think that is pretty cool
  15. Wow, I wonder what kind of legal standing the son might have at this late date? Seems like Sony could just tell him to buzz off, but obviously not.
  16. What a mess ... Nice to see Paul Tingen got the JT article. His "Miles Beyond" book is a lot of fun to read and has been a great reference for me.
  17. I am going from memory, but seems Cuscuna had some interesting recollections about WS in the Mosaic box set booklet. Sad story ...
  18. Yep, my Trane/Monk and Big Star shipped, but the Cellar Door is still there at good ole $39.19 ...
  19. Eric

    iPod nano

Interesting. I wonder how the "display" Nanos are holding up at the Apple stores - seems these would be esp vulnerable. Either that or Apple has to replace them every few days ...
  20. Shoot, I am leaving town to go to Sacramento. Enjoy KC if you can, and hopefully you can hook up with the KC crowd, drink some beer and eat some BBQ!!!
  21. But of course I think it is called "In Space" - includes the two guys from the Posies that have been playing with Chilton off/on for 10 years. Most of the reviews I've seen are favorable ... not expecting great stuff, but I suspect it will be enjoyable. PS - That Cellar Door news blows ... dumb, dumb, dumb!
  22. Yeah, me too Paul (along with the new Big Star CD). I am hoping they ship the Trane/Monk anyway ... otherwise I may end up with two copies.
  23. If it's impossible to separate Katrina from politics, then this thread should be moved to the politics forum. Guy ← This disaster certainly has a political components, but it goes far beyond politics as well. I don't care which fucking forum it's in. Why should anyone? ← Because I am an overly-sensitive conservative? Make you happy?
  24. And how many of the people still in New Orleans chose to ignore the warnings? Let's set the figure really high, say, 50%. Now let's get those people out by any means necessary. That's still a helluva lot of people. I've no doubt that some people had a chance to leave, and I said so. I also said that they made their own bed by choosing to stay. My point is that knowing what I know of the "real" New Orleans, the city that the tourists don't see, that there were a lot more people who had no independent way out than some people seem to be willing to consider. Why this would seem unfathomable is beyond me. Lots of poor (and old) people in New Orleans. And they don't have basements either. We're not in Kansas anymore, as they say... ← Gee, never heard that one before BTW, I have spent plenty of time in the "real" NO as well as other major US and third world cities. I friggin' get it. It is not in the least bit unfathomable that a certain portion of the population could not get out. How do we deal with those folks next time? And we definitely know there will be a next time, that is sort of the good news/bad news story here. And, how do we convince those who have the means (and for the record, I believe it is a higher % than you do, but whatever), to get the f out? These are all needless, needless tragedies. If we can fix these problems, then it is just an issue for State Farm to sort out.
