  6. I am from the future. I remember when Giancarlo Stanton was known as Mike Stanton.
  7. Thanks, thats a great clip!
  8. Yep, I thought to myself, clearly it's the best solution to all of society's ills! Jeff, I just signed into the all about jazz site yesterday for the first time since 2007...you don't see me bragging about it! (I really did...looked at some very old Pm's, browsed a bit, then left for another 4 years) Anyway, welcome back Jeff! An old thread will show up once in awhile, I would see your name, see when you last posted, see it was a long time ago..and wondered why you left. You see a fair number of people that used to post all the time just poof! Did they lose interest in jazz? Posting about jazz? Can't afford jazz? Have all the jazz that was ever recorded? Died? Glad it wasn't that, as are you, no doubt! Interesting to read what you said about waiting for the next batch of cds to come out...the way music is gathered by most people really has changed...not sure if it's for the better . I really do miss walking into store and finding something that really was only put out on cd for me...
  9. You can get HP All in one printers for $39.99 to $69.99 at walmart. (they have a wireless one for $49.99 online right now)I usually get the cheapest one, and get a year or so out of it. What's really funny is they put in the HP XL ink, the ones that typically run around $60 for the pair, so it's cheaper to buy the printer than to buy two cartridges! Give the "used" printer to Salvation Army, and get a brand new one! Oh, like Big Wheel said, some printers flat out refuse to work with any refills. Talked to a guy at Cartridge world about that...HP printers just refuse to tell you what your ink levels are when you get your cartridge refilled, so you just run out one day...but they work..
  10. I swear in the old days of playing records, I didn't notice as many as I have seen since getting back into records after a decade or so...Was just looking at The College Concert of Pee Wee Russell, and Henry Red Allen, an Impulse release. (A-9137) Anyway, it has what looks like 6-8 little "blisters" or possibly dirt that settled during manufacturing. Just guessing there. But I sure don't recall seeing so many glitches on my old Beatles, Adam Ant, etc records. Was there a golden era of defects on vinyl? Or were some labels more prone to this issue? Most of the time I don't hear a problem, but I can feel some of these, a few are like dimples.....
  11. Ah, thanks! Looked up the audioquest, do you do what this reviewer says, or do you find it works fine with "dirty" records? Most importantly, if your record is dirty, do not contaminate your brush with it. You will harm both. This brush is for new and washed records between plays.
  12. My Dad's ol' Sony Record player has been taken out of retirement(I'm betting it had been 10+ years since we spinned a record on it!) And have been converted like many others to the joy of record playing, after so many years of thinking Cds were the be all and the end all. Anyway, did you know records really, really attract dust and dirt? Who knew? Was using compressed air(Don't have too light a grip on the record!) but of course that only gets the bigger chunks. And some stuff floats back to the record if you don't run fast enough out of the room you used the compressed air in... Was looking into record cleaners, and didn't see a lot of affordable options. In fact, considering the semi comeback records have made, I was surprised how few choices there are out here. Figured all the black roller thingys we had were lone gone, but what do you know, right next to my Dad's Mac 60, there was one of them! a Parostatik Disc preener. Works pretty well...but I am using it dry. Is that a bad idea? Should a wet the "bristles" with something? Or should I just go back to listening to nothing but cds, and make my life less complicated?
  13. Jeff, I did want you to know I downloaded and was enjoying the music, making a list..and well, got about 2/3rdsof the way thru it, didn't save comments... and power went out and...well, lost everything I wrote...anyway, wanted to say thanks for the BFT! I think I recognized Ray McKinley...and I have a different Ray Miller Orch cd...Actually, might have the Spike Hughes cd too, but it's been years since I played it...
  14. He'll be 28 in May. How old is that in fat guy years? Years? Still 28. Knees? That remains to be seen... i've been asserting the 'fatman' issue, with absolutely no success, concerning cc for 7 years. But eventually.... you will be right! Babe Ruth played fat(not at first of course) smoked, whored around, drank too much, ate meat (unlike Fielder) and at the age of 36 he struggled to hit 46 Hrs', drive in 163 RBI's and only batted .373. And he didn't drive in 100 runs after he turned 38! So sad... Clearly, Fielder should start drinkin' smokin, and eatin' like a man, and he should do fine over the life of the contract! Babe Ruth never faced a slider, sinker or 100+ MPH fastball either. Never played against any of the best Black ballplayers of the time. And played at a time when the ballplayers worked winter jobs and/or passed on professional ball to earn a living. Today, he would be either a bench player or in the bullpen. And as fat and out of shape as he was, optioned out before he hit 30. Congrats Goodspeak, your goofiest post ever, quite the feat! on the slider... As for fastballs. Ever hear of Walter Johnson? Widely regarded as the best pitcher ever? Some interesting talk on fastball pitcher throughout history. http://www.baseball-almanac.com/articles/fastest-pitcher-in-baseball.shtml It's true Babe Ruth faced pitchers out of gas, (a better example would have been he never faced split finger pitches, though a few guys threw spitters, as they always have )and in some smaller parks. But, as others mentioned, He didn't have videotape to watch, didn't work out like players today... The best player of any era would be one o the bests player of any era. Why? What you and I can't see. Most baseball players have extraordinary capabilities to coordinate physical and mental processes, including fast reaction times, focus and high visual acuity. Studies conducted by Columbia University on Babe Ruth while he was playing showed that he could react to visual and sound cues much faster than the average person and that he had better hand-eye coordination than 98.8 percent of the population. More Ever see the bat Babe Ruth used??? Think it was a bit harder to whip thru the zone than what Bonds used??? Would you feel better if it was proven Babe had some black blood in him??? As some old timey folks mentioned about Babe in the Ken Burns baseball documentary, how many white guys have noses like he did? I wish he had played with the Josh Gibsons of the world, but he didn't. I also wish he hadn't "wasted" all those years being the best left handed pitcher in the game (and setting W.S. records that took decades to break) I also wish he hadn't started playing in the dead ball era too..can't change those facts either. All I know is he was the best baseball player ever, period.

  16. By Cecilia Kang, Published: January 24 Google will soon know far more about who you are and what you do on the Web. The Web giant announced Tuesday that it plans to follow the activities of users across nearly all of its ubiquitous sites, including YouTube, Gmail and its leading search engine. Google has already been collecting some of this information. But for the first time, it is combining data across its Web sites to stitch together a fuller portrait of users. Consumers who are logged into Google services won’t be able to opt out of the changes, which take effect March 1. More
