Another issue, admittedly minor, that I want to raise about this box set. There are two essays in the liner notes: one in English and another in German. At first I thought it was the same essay in the two languages, then looking a bit closer I noticed that the authors are different and even though I don't speak German, from a brief perusal of the text it was obvious to me that the German text is a completely different essay. Now I know that most Germans would have little trouble with English, but I would have appreciated having an English translation of the German essay. by the way, the essay in English is informatve and good.

I just picked up the 4 cd Crystal Silence set. Haven't listened to it all yet, but on comparing Crystal Silence from the 4 cd box to the single cd available, the box set sounds like it may have slightly different and superior remastering... but it is so subtle I can't swear to it. It was mentioned above that the original covers are reprinted in the liner notes booklet - but in the Crystal Silence box the original covers are reprinted in black and white and are about the size of a postage stamp - you wonder why they bothered? And the original color cover of Crystal Silence was quite beautiful IMO.

Has anyone sold on Audigon in the last 9 months or so. I know that they changed the format of their website and apparently there were a lot of problems with it. Sort of scared me off... but I am wondering if things got straightened out?

Interesting follow up. Yesterday I got a notice on My Account in Amazon that the item had shipped and when I got home it was in my mailbox. Since I did not request nor did there appear to be any evidence of expedited shipping.... I conclude that the "shipping soon" message I was getting from Amazon was not exactly accurate and that the item had actually shipped well before I got notice. Strange.

what's the longest anyone has seen the "shipping soon" message from Amazon when it does not involve a Marketplace seller and is only a single item and other outstanding items or bundling issues?

Did anyone pick this up? Does anyone know if they remastered the sound on this or any of the other recent ECM box sets?

Well in my case I am only ordering a single item and I have no other outstanding orders.. so it can't be a bundling issue.

Recently on several orders with Amazon I see an item which is described as "in stock" and I order it and then for a week or more I see this message "shipping soon" If the item is in stock ... why all the delay?

I was just in J&R Music World in Manhattan for the first time in a couple of weeks and was shocked to see that the Jazz section, as well as the Country, Blues, World Music, Classical... all of these sections are about one half the size they used to be. Apparently, the very large DVD section that was in the basement was brought up to the 2nd floor and also reduced in size. To make room for DVDs, the jazz and other section were severely reduced. I walked by Norman's Sound and Vision and it is closed - maybe moved to Brooklyn - and Rockit Scientist closed completely.

Except that when I read Tingen's book which was a couple of years ago, I was surprised at how critical he is of Miles's electric period. For a guy who supposedly champions this era, read what he says in the details about a number of the electric works and you will note how unflattering his descriptions are. There is a thread about this which I started I believe.

what I don't get is all this gushing over the US Women's gymnastics team. Is there any other sport where you see so many obvious glaring errors? For example, the balance beam - you have a 30 second routine and you almost fall off or actually fall off 3 times and you win a medal. I understand these young ladies are extremely talented, but hey if the routines are too complicated then tone it down. If I want to see kids falling off the bars, I can go to my local playground. And why do they all sound like the Kardashians? Tell me gymnastics is over please. On the other hand - diving, beach volleyball, showed some tremendous skills. I understand that this year is the first year the US has sent more women then men, but if you watch the NBC coverage, you would think the US hardly has any men at the Olympics.

Just to close the loop ... I ended up getting an Oppo BDP-95 from Music Direct, mostly because of the great recs I have seen and because MD has a 30 day money back guarantee. I have only had it a couple of days, but I really like the sound so far. I had originally wanted to get the Decware Cd player, but regrettably they have a 3 month wait time and my current player is skipping. But I am loving the sound on this Oppo unit. THanks to Lon and to Kevin and others for your many helpful suggestions.

I only know Osaka. Are there others? I don't know about Osaka, but there is another concert from Tokyo and one from Kyoto. They were recently released on CD by Domino is this package Same here - I've got the second Tokyo concert and the Kyoto show; didn't know about Osaka. Is the sound quality good and if so where can I get this?

I was at J&R Music World in NYC on Friday and they had pretty much all of these sets at seemingly lower prices than those on the Popmarket site. THey had the Mahavishnu set for $35 and I remember paying more for that at Popmarket and it was a brief time of reduced price.

I just found this on Amazon but can't tell if it's the same label. I downloaded the 2 cuts not on the Blue Note. The sound sucks, but hey it's Coltrane and Monk! Thanks Medjuck but that Live at the Five Spot is a notoriously poorly recorded date... not sure I want to judge Gambit based on that.

I generally prefer to stay away from labels like this one... but lately I have been seeing used copies of stuff that does not seem otherwise available. How's the sound quality of this Gambit stuff?
