  1. Mine is Atlantic mono 1494. I didn't time it but the jacket says 6:35.
  2. OK, mystery deepens. I have the Japanese CD (AMCY1285) and they play the head once. So that's the same as the new CD. I have the original LP, as well, and they play the head ONCE! WTF? MG THAT is strange. Now the thing is somebody who has both versions has to listen to see if it's a different take. My lp is mono. Maybe the mono and stereo have different takes? If so - GREAT !
  3. I have a vinyl copy of "The Grass Is Greener" that I bought back in the day. They play the head twice. That's a shitty thing to edit. On this tune the head is really setting up the whole solo thing.
  4. Back it up and burn it again ! LOL
  5. I'm not a good dancer at all....but I wish I were.. I don't really know many musicians that ARE good dancers. Maybe because we were always doing gigs and watching other people dance.
  6. Miller Huggins Joe McCarthy Casey Stengel

If you mean the organist from Paterson, NJ. He is known by both names.
  8. Great. Remember last season when she grabbed a submachine gun and dispatched a few bad guys? Revenge of the computer nerds.
  9. FWIW I know that he used to live in the New Jersey area and at one time worked in the Sam Goody's in Paramus at the Garden State Plaza. That was back in the 60s. I'm thinking of that "The Grass Is Greener" album cover and putting 40 years on the cover photo. I bet it's him.
  10. To say that they are treading water is giving them the benifit of the doubt.
  11. Sinatra Borgnine Gardner
  12. The early Eddie Condon recordings have a lot of Tesch on them. IF you can find the first Eddie Condon Chrono Classics there's quite a bit on that or the Eddie Condon JSP set has a lot too. The Mckenzie and Condon Chicagoans are on both of these and include Tesch, Bud Freeman, Gene Krupa, etc. Those recordings have been anthologized a lot and should be easy to find. There was a Time Life 3 lp box that had every recording Tesch made. They only included 2 1/2 lp sides. The third side was recordings that he MAY have played on. The box shows up on Ebay or Amazon now and then. Pee Wee Russell eventually took Tesch's slot in the Condon gang and although Pee Wee claimed not to have been influenced by Tesch his style was quite similar to my ears.
  13. Good post, Jim
  14. I heard quite a bit of the Charlie Johnson recordings on WKCR a few years ago. Great stuff! Lots of Sidney DeParis if I remember correctly. Brownie, was that French RCA B&W issued on cd or is the vinyl the only issue ?
  15. You all know I'm a big Sopranos fan, but Frankie Valli's rubout was a little unrealistic in my book. These are two verteran mobguys and alarm bells don't go off when a car parks in the driveway, blocking thier egress? Didn't these guys ever see any mob movies?
  16. Plato Sal Mineo Natalie Wood
  17. I didn't know that. I'm glad it is. Bettye deserves a good audience.
  18. I thought I'd post this. It's great opportunity to see and hear Bettye. The show starts at 2:00 pm at the Ringwood Public Library. Here's all the info: http://www.ringwoodlibrary.org/ For those of you unfamiliar with Bettye - She's a real deal SOUL SINGER. Excellent! If you dig classic soul singing you will not be disappointed. My wife and I are going along with several of the local musicians. edit to add: The link above has a link to Bettye's site, Which can give you an idea of what her show is about.
  19. The Tony Parenti Riverside lp that had Cyrus on it had two groups on it. One group had was a full band and the other group a trio. The band sides were reissued here: http://www.jazzology.com/item_detail.php?id=JCD-21 Cyrus is on these band tracks. I think it's a good session. Wild Bill is in good form and Baby Dodds and Cyrus lock in the time.
  20. Yeah. I have the Centennial edition also and it's great.
  21. And how! I had to look back through this thread - I'm surprised I haven't posted here yet. Red is one of those guys who've made my "get everything you can" list. The Rhythmakers records are terrific. Lots of great players here and lots to listen to. I often wonder if this session set the blueprint for the Fats Waller and his Rhythm dates to follow. Another high point - Pee Wee Russell's tenor solo on "I Would Do Anything." Pee Wee could have been an R&B honker in the 50s, and Red consistently adds to and pushes the heat on every tune. Tis is one of the great recording bands in Jazz history. I think it's somewhat overlooked.
  22. Stuff was an odd case. Their recordings don't do them justice. It's odd to be saying that about a bunch of studio guys, but it's the truth. They used to be at Mikell's at 97th and Columbus for years and I saw them countless times. It was always smokin'. They generated a lot of exitement live. In the earlier days before their albums the repetorire was Soul Classics and they were killin'. King Curtis' band was the same way. So much better live than any of the records reveal.
  23. Never a dull moment. I wonder what happened to Agent Pierce? The Pres's wife just found the cell phone.
  24. That's a good album. Tee always sounded great to me. He used to do this thing live where he would break it down and just groove with the drums. It was espescially effective when he was playing an acoustic piano.
