He's also on the Tony Parenti "Ragtime" session from the late 40s. Sounds great on those. Wild Bill, Baby Dodds etc, keeping him company on that date. Same crew on some of the "This Is Jazz" Broadcasts. He sounds great. Strong groove, intonation, etc. The tuba, or if you prefer the term brass bass, recorded better than a string bass in the 20s and maybe early 30s. Hence a guy like Cyrus or (another guy with terrific chops) Quinn Wilson (on some of Jabbo's records) really put their groove on some of these records.

Happy Holidays to all !

The wideguy goes into hiding, Johnny Sack loses face and Frankie Valli makes the hit parade. On the money for an ostentatious New Jersey wedding scene. The band was perfect with the frontman doing Sinatra and Dino.

Yeah, but the SENSIBLE way to go was just too darned telegraphed.....I like to be shocked during a show...I shouldn't spoil the surprise now, but I got a copy of the finale, and Jack Bauer is the one behind all this! Jack and Chloe. That would be the big twister. So what's the Tricky Dick Pres up to? "Stickin' it to the man?" "But you are the man."

I think in those days Kenny did a lot of whatever dates came his way, including R&R and R&B (Interchangeable terms at that time). I think at one time he played in the pit band for a Broadway show also, although I can't remember which. Another addition to the above mentioned "Rock and Roll" (vernacular of the times) dates Kenny played on the was the "Try Me" session for James Brown, along with Panama Francis, pianist Ernie Hayes (another guy who could and DID play anything that came his way) and ...don't remember who the bassist was. Maybe Leonard Gaskin or Lloyd Trotman. Another guy known as a Jazz guitarist who played an many many R&R dates was George Barnes.

Audrey bounced back pretty quickly as well. Guy True, but wasn't Henderson almost dead at one point? Audrey's "medical interogation" (thanks, RDK) didn't go as far. Of course it's a mistake to look for logic here. We won't find it....but it is one hell of an entertaning hour.

I'm waiting for my copy to arrive. Can't miss this one.

What was that sexual harrasment? Comedy relief? Chloe is a great character. Wouldn't it be a riot is she hooked it up with Jack? All in all this show continues to entertain. Yes, you have to suspend disbelief, but HEY! they never implied anything else. Henderson is fine after being tortured to near death two hours earlier. If I were in CTU I'd be looking at the the guy who does the torturing.

I was alone in defending the show today to the "water cooler" gang. 'The general office take on it today was negative. Too much soap opera. Some people are really bugged by the coma fantasies, but if the show was the way they wanted it it would just be shoot 'em up bang bang. That's not really the way I see it. For me, I'm willing to wait if this is all setting the stage. It all depends on where they take it. PLUS - I was still entertained. the hour went by too quickly. Re the dream sequences. Many of the office people didn't notice the Doctor working on Tony was one of the Monks and in the scene where Tony Blundetto was trying to get Tony into that house they didn't notice the woman who I took to be Tony's mother. When David Chase did Northern Exposure the show got increasingly further out as it went on. Again - that didn't bother me. I kind of dig the fantasy elements. And yes, AJ an ass and I wish I didn't have to say the Steven Van Zandt's acting is more noticably amateurish as his character gets more attention. His wife is GAS to look at however.

Interesting. The "water cooler" talk in my office placed the voice as Gloria, Tony's "goomad" from a while back. I was the dissenting voice in the sense that maybe it was Gloria, it definitley was not Carmela, but I thought maybe it was just an actress doing a voice over that was supposed to be Carmela and she just didn't do that great a job of imitating Carmela. Charmaine is a possibility that nobody "around the water cooler" came up with, but I think it's a good one, being as Tony dated Charmaine at one time. If this dream was wish fufillment, which is my take on it, that would be very interesting.

...And if I remember the dialogue correctly, he's awaiting trial. He can't make bail? I agree - it doesn't ring true.)

Vito's secretly gay, remember? And Amber's fiance knows this. I think Paulie knows the score. He wouldn't let Vito take AJ home. If so - then Vito knows Paulie knows. When was Vito's suicide comment? Before or after Paulie wouldn't let Vito take AJ. That being said...Vito is also an extremely unlikely suicide candidate.
-
Well, he's damned if he does and damned if he doesn't, really. A loser with low self-esteem either way. Could suicide be in the cards for him? I don't AJ as a suicide. He's too much of a self centered spoiled brat. Anything negative in his life is just an excuse for indulgent behavior. He'd just probably eat more if he got depressed.
-
I thought they kind of belabored a point, but the hour still went by very quickly. The writers have shown they can go anywhere they want with this and pretty much carry it off; so, while I doubt AJ will succeed in an attempt on Junior's life, it's not beyond possibility. I can see several scenarios developing out of that, but I really doubt that's the direction they will take. But...assuming Tony survives (I think he will), is this a life altering experiance for him, or will he be right back to business as usual? I wonder who Paulie is shooting at in those previews? No cracks yet in the Silvio, Paulie, Christopher team. The guy in worst standing here is Vito, but he's a big earner, so he's safe unless he makes a bad move....and he did piss Paulie off already.

Well, in case you haven't seen it, the film is just terrible! And the film quality isn't much better, since it is in the public domain. Still worth watching once for the music. You can buy the vhs for a song, and the DVD is not that much more... http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/search-h...&Go.x=18&Go.y=4 Thanks Berigan. I have the vhs (You're right. I think I payed $1.99 for it.) but it's nice and convenient having a bunch of these things saved to favorites so you don't have to be rewinding tapes ,etc. -
Playing bass kind of goes with the instrument. Shirley Scott was capable of playing excellent bass lines and usually played basslines in a live situation even though she usually recorded with a bassist. One of the reasons organ became so popular was the two for one aspect of getting an organist who could play basslines.

Check that cover. With the exception of Mildred Bailey they were all still on the planet in 1956 when this came out. There was a little paper foldover that came in the jacket (no dust covers, by the way) that was a promo for rca jazz albums out at the time. I still have those too. I just left thim in the jackets.

I have that set. It's GREAT ! I was about 10 or so and my local supermarket (not Hinky Dinky) had them for 49 cents each. They're 10" lps and the sound is really good on them. I still have them. The recent RCA 80th anniversary cds have most, if not all, of the same material plus some. Those are presented chronologically with one cd for each decade from the 20s through the 90s.
