  1. I bought my first Apple, a Apple II, or some such thing in college (1982). I learned to use a mouse on my IIc. That said, it's been a while. Haven't owned a computer in quite some time, though I usually find myself on Windows when I have one at my disposal (e.g., employer's computer, net cafe). I don't like Starbucks because, as I like to say, I want my grandkids to have a choice what coffee they drink. By extrapolation, you can guess how I feel about Microsoft/Windows. I preferred Beta too.
  2. ← Sorry if you took my comment as even SLIGHTLY serious. Perhaps I chose the wrong smiley. (sarcastic?) And yet, as I write this, I'm not sure how serious your reply was.
  3. Anytime I hear the term "Mac users", I feel like someone's really stretching the use of the plural. I mean, what are there, five of you guys?
  4. Appreciate advice received in '04. Heading back for a longer stay. Any updates or new info? Thanks.
  5. Tribute to Cannonball, already mentioned, is indeed a good one. A couple of others: Anthropology on Black Lion is a late-era date that captures some really high-energy playing. Early material now reissued on Classics is great. Second-tier, but still fine stuff: Bird's 'Birth of Bop' material - I suppose Byas' contributions could be called incidental, but the music is essential and Byas' recordings with Basie (can't go wrong with The Count)
  6. http://f.chtah.com/i/9/276579820/borderscoupon_704.html 25% on one CD thru 11 July.
  7. Can't seem to find either of the Smiths at CD Universe, other than as imports. Am I missing something?
  8. Plain steel-cut oats. No milk (vegetarian). A little water and, when my sweet tooth aches, a few raisins. Oh yeah.
  9. Somewhere out there is a recording where Jon Hendricks sings impressions of various bass players (Chambers, Mingus, et al.) Unfortunately, my music is 8,000 miles and 6 months away. But someone is probably familiar with this. I suppose the focus of the distinctions made between bassists is on ideas, rather than sound/tone.
  10. Zoot Sims - or so he relates in a story once told
  11. Record, heck I'm on a Mosaic (Select). I'm in the audience on the Dex Select. I'm on a few recordings (playing) that, with any luck, have been lost to the sands of time.
  12. Since I'm homeless, I can confidently answer "no". On the other hand... My name is BeBop and sometimes I start new threads at Organissimo without thoroughly researching whether or not existing threads adequately cover the intended topic. As a result I CREATE CLUTTER. Sorry, off the soapbox now, Unk.
  13. First show, for sure. Second? PMed you.
  14. Ticket to see Ernie Krivda at Sweet Rhythm tonight.
  15. I'll be there. Just hit town, saw an ad, and committed myself...before catching this thread. Definitely looking forward to it.
  16. I stop by the store every couple of months, but have never bought anything.
  17. I'm interested in seeing if there is any 'flak' about this move. My personal impression was that Marley was a 'big deal' to Jamaicans; I've never heard a word about him from anyone in Ethiopia. Just one man's observation.
  18. The intro snags me, and I'm a goner.
  19. Star Eyes. This one gets stuck in my head a lot. Anything I've ever struggled to improvise over tends to implant itself.
  20. Back in my old days in the financial services industry, I went through a few bank robberies - bullets through the ceiling and all. Often scary, but usually over before you know what hit 'ya. Then again, I've never been the teller looking at the business end of a 9mm. Once, in retail, I got tied up in the back room while the robbers rifled the shelves and cash register. Wish I could repress that memory.
  21. Man, I barely remember 'those days'. The only 'sealed' Crowns I remember seeing were re-sealed by dealers. I stand corrected. Again.
  22. Here's a sealed copy of Jazz Masquerade on Crown records. Heck, I didn't think Crowns were sealed when originally sold. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...4066747340&rd=1
  23. Fashionably late? Laid back? Or "delightfully behind the times"? I'll keep a lookout. One, if by land, eh?
  24. The Hill will certainly be tempting - check out those sidemen! I'm curious though, I didn't think that Selects were envisioned to be so 'heavy' on unissued material. Not that I'm complaining...
